You can park free at the Council’s Stewart Street East car park after 4.30pm on a weekday, and the free Gong Shuttle (route 55) stops directly in front of the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre at 32 Burelli Street, Wollongong, according to the venue’s own Getting Here page. Wollongong railway station is about a 15-minute walk away. This guide covers parking, buses, trains, taxis, access services, tickets and the places to eat nearby, and it sets out where the official pages disagree. We read the pages on Saturday 7 November 2026.
IPAC is run by Merrigong Theatre Company, which also looks after Wollongong Town Hall and The Music Lounge. If you are going to a match or a concert at WIN Stadium or WIN Entertainment Centre instead, see our guides to the Illawarra Hawks at WIN Entertainment Centre and the Wollongong CBD parking rates.

Where are IPAC, the Town Hall and The Music Lounge?
Merrigong’s Getting Here page says its venues sit within the Wollongong Arts Precinct. It gives three locations.
| Venue | Where it is |
|---|---|
| Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC) | 32 Burelli Street, Wollongong; the box office is here |
| Wollongong Town Hall | Corner of Crown and Kembla Streets, Wollongong |
| The Music Lounge | Inside Wollongong Town Hall |
The box office is at IPAC. Merrigong says its team is available by phone, email or in person from 10am to 4pm on weekdays, on (02) 4224 5999 or at boffice@merrigong.com.au. The theatre company’s access page adds that the box office can also be reached about accessibility at the same hours.
Can I park near IPAC?
Yes. Merrigong lists three kinds of parking, and City of Wollongong’s special events parking page names two of the same car parks for IPAC.
| Option | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| On-street parking | Available around IPAC and the Town Hall. Pay and display machines operate on a number of spaces in the city centre, and Merrigong advises patrons to check restrictions before leaving their vehicle. Street parking is free on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, but time restrictions may apply. |
| Burelli Street outside IPAC | Limited accessible spaces, 1/4 hour parking and drop-off zones |
| Stewart Street East car park | Council-operated, within a 10-minute walk of the Arts Precinct. Fees apply on weekdays. Free and without time restrictions after 4.30pm on weekdays, on weekends and on public holidays. |
| Undercover Council car park, access from Stewart Street | Entry and exit are under surveillance 24 hours a day and monitored by CCTV. Fees apply before 5pm; after 5pm it is free. |
The Council’s special events page lists the Stewart Street car park at 41 Burelli Street and the Stewart Street East car park for IPAC, and tells visitors to check parking signs for time limits or fees. For WIN Stadium and WIN Entertainment Centre nights it notes that special event parking and rates may apply at Stewart Street East. It gives no such note, and no rates, for IPAC.
The two pages give slightly different free-parking times. Merrigong says the undercover car park is free after 5pm, while it says Stewart Street East is free after 4.30pm on weekdays.

What about accessible parking?
City of Wollongong’s accessible parking page says accessible spaces are marked with a wheelchair icon and can only be used by people with a valid Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) card, which must be clearly displayed. These spaces have no time limit. In non-accessible spaces, the Council says an MPS card holder can park longer than the sign shows: unlimited where the sign shows more than 30 minutes, up to 2 hours where it shows 30 minutes, and up to 30 minutes where it shows less than 30 minutes. MPS permit holders can park at no charge in Council and on-street metered or ticket parking areas.
Merrigong’s own page says the number of accessible spaces on Burelli Street outside IPAC is limited. The Council’s special events page says to check accessibility support with the event organiser.
Which buses stop at IPAC?
The free Gong Shuttle, route 55, stops immediately in front of IPAC, according to Merrigong. The Council’s special events page says the bus stops are directly out front, including the Gong Shuttle. Merrigong also lists Premier Illawarra, Premier Charters and Dions as operators with services along Burelli Street, and points to their timetables.
Merrigong gives the shuttle’s hours as 7am to 10pm on weekdays and 8am to 6pm on weekends, with a weekend bus every 20 minutes between 8.00am and 6.00pm. Our Gong Shuttle guide lists other weekend hours from the bus operator and Transport for NSW, so the sources do not match.
| Source | Weekdays | Saturdays | Sundays and public holidays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Merrigong (IPAC) | 7am to 10pm | 8am to 6pm, every 20 minutes | 8am to 6pm, every 20 minutes |
| Premier Illawarra (operator), read 24 October | 7am to 6pm every 10 minutes, then every 20 minutes to 10pm | 9:40am to 5:20pm, every 20 minutes | 9:40am to 5:20pm, about every 20 minutes |
| Transport for NSW event pages, read 24 October | Same as the operator | 9am to 5.20pm, every 20 minutes | Same as the operator |
The weekend finishing times in the table range from 5:20pm to 6pm. All three sources have the Gong Shuttle running until 10pm on weekdays.

Can I get to IPAC by train?
Yes. Merrigong says Wollongong railway station is on the South Coast Line, about 1 hour 30 minutes south of Sydney, and that the walk from the station to the venues takes 15 minutes. The Council’s special events page also gives about 15 minutes from Wollongong station to IPAC. For timetables, Merrigong points to Transport for NSW. Our guide to the Sydney to Wollongong train and Opal fares covers the trip from Central.

Is there a taxi service?
Merrigong suggests pre-booking with the Illawarra Taxi Network, either online at illawarrataxinetwork.com.au or by phone on 02 4254 2111.
What access services does Merrigong offer?
Merrigong’s access services page says both IPAC and Wollongong Town Hall are accessible venues, and that staff are on hand to help patrons get into and around the venue. To arrange any option, contact the box office at the time of booking.
| Service | What the page says |
|---|---|
| Accessible seating | Selected seats in each theatre are held for wheelchair users and others with mobility concerns; call to say which type of wheelchair you use |
| Companion Card | Accepted; companion seats can only be booked in person or by phone, with the card sighted when you collect your ticket |
| Hearing assistance | The IMB Theatre has an FM system, with receivers free from the box office before the show; the Bruce Gordon Theatre and the Town Hall’s Main Auditorium have an induction hearing loop for T-switch hearing aids |
| Live captioning | Select performances; mobile captioning through the GoTheatrical! app in the Bruce Gordon Theatre and Main Auditorium, and screens at the side of the stage in the IMB Theatre |
| Auslan | Interpretation for select performances |
| Audio description and tactile tours | Select performances are audio described, with a 30-minute tactile tour beforehand |
| Relaxed performances | Select performances, with a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and small changes to light and sound |
| Large-print cast sheet | Available on request at the box office on the day of the performance for Mainstage Season shows |
Merrigong also publishes an Access Guide for IPAC and one for Wollongong Town Hall and The Music Lounge, which you can download from the page. Mention captioning, audio description or tactile tours when you book, the page says, so you are seated where you can use them.

What are the ticket and entry rules?
Merrigong’s ticket and general information page sets out the rules, as read on 7 November 2026.
- E-tickets: if you have one, you do not need to collect a physical ticket from the box office; show it on your phone to go straight through.
- Fees: a transaction fee of $7.75 applies to phone and internet bookings, except subscription bookings. There is no fee for counter purchases.
- Dynamic pricing: prices may be adjusted up or down with real-time demand and without notice, so contact the box office for up-to-date prices.
- Latecomers: patrons who arrive after a show has started may only be admitted at the discretion of management, at a convenient break. Some performances have strict lockouts.
- Cameras and devices: cameras and recording equipment are not permitted in the theatres during performances, and phones and other devices should be turned off.
- Babes in arms: children 12 months and over must have a paid seat.
- Unwell on the day: Merrigong recommends staying home and telling the box office as soon as possible; you may be eligible for an exchange, subject to availability.
The page also says that from 29 October 2026 Merrigong is moving to a new ticketing system for events in 2027 onwards, in stages, while 2026 events stay on the current platform. 2026 e-tickets are at merrigong.com.au/customerlogin, and 2027 e-tickets are at boxoffice.merrigong.com.au.
Where can I eat near IPAC?
Merrigong lists a café at IPAC and dining partners within walking distance, on its food and drink page. The Social @ IPAC is on site and opens Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 3pm, and for 1.5 hours before shows. Merrigong says 2026 Season Ticket holders get 10% off their bill at the dining partners when they show a 2026 Loyalty card; the offer applies to full-priced items only and cannot be combined with other offers.
