Parking at both Roughton Park car parks beside Kirra Beach is free. The City of Gold Coast says there is no charge to park at either one, and that parking is available 24 hours a day. Each car park holds 150 to 199 vehicles, and each has accessible parking spaces. Details on this page are as of October 2026, taken from the City’s car park pages.

The City’s pages do not list a time limit or a pay meter for either car park. Look for signs on site, as the City advises visitors to the beach to take note of parking signs and line markings before they head to the sand.

Is there parking on the street as well?

Yes. The City’s Roughton Park page says there is onsite and on-street parking along Musgrave Street and Marine Parade. Its Kirra beach page adds that there are car parks at the Kirra and North Kirra surf clubs, and that on-street parking is available in surrounding streets. Check the signs for any limits before you leave the car.

Where are the accessible bays?

The Roughton Park page says several disabled parking bays are available at the onsite car park and along Musgrave Street. The park also has an accessible toilet designed to the Disability Discrimination Act standard. To use an accessible bay you need a valid disability parking permit, with the permit holder travelling in the vehicle. The City’s accessible parking page explains how to display it.

Is Kirra Beach patrolled?

The City’s pages disagree on the season. Its Kirra beach page says Tower 4, on Marine Parade near Kirra Surf Life Saving Club, is patrolled by lifeguards from 8am to 5pm every day all year round. Its Roughton Park page says the patrolled swimming area in front of the club is patrolled from 8am to 5pm every day from November to April. Check the City’s beach patrol information PDF, which is linked from the Kirra beach page, before you plan a swim outside summer.

The City says a patrol may be closed at times because of dangerous swimming conditions, unsafe beach conditions or beach maintenance works. Swim between the red and yellow flags.

What is at Roughton Park?

The City lists barbecues, picnic tables and shelters, toilets, showers, a drinking fountain, a fitness station and a playground, which it describes as partly shaded. The Oceanway runs through the parkland along Kirra Beach, for walkers, cyclists and skateboarders. The park is next to the Kirra Beach surf break; the City calls Kirra the spiritual home of surfing on the Gold Coast.

Dogs must be on a leash in the park unless otherwise stated, and they are prohibited in all children’s playground areas. Dogs are also prohibited within 200 metres of flagged swimming areas.

Can I get to Kirra by bus?

The City says Translink buses run along the Gold Coast Highway and Marine Parade at Kirra. Plan your trip with Translink’s journey planner. You can also walk, run or ride to the beach along the Oceanway.
