On a Friday or Saturday night in Surfers Paradise, Translink lists the G:link tram and secure taxi ranks with late night FlatFare fares as the late night options, and Gold Coast FlatFares for a single fare run from $5.00 in zone one to $14.00 in the highest-priced zones. Nightlink buses, which run between midnight and 5am on Friday and Saturday nights, are described by Translink as a Brisbane service.

Details below are from Translink’s late night services page, checked on Sunday 18 October 2026. Fares are as of October 2026.

Is the tram running late at night?

Translink’s late night services page lists the G:link between Gold Coast University Hospital and Broadbeach South as a regular late night service on the Gold Coast. It does not give times, so use the journey planner for the last tram from your station.

That listing is older than the tram extension. The G:link now also runs to Burleigh Heads, with eight new stations, and Translink changed local bus routes on Monday 7 September 2026. Translink’s service notice on the bus and tram changes says route 70, formerly the late night route 700, is the overnight tram replacement bus. It runs between Burleigh Heads and Helensvale stations every 30 minutes from midnight to 4am, Monday to Thursday. The pages we read do not say what replaces the tram on other nights, so check the journey planner for a Friday or Saturday trip.

Where are the secure taxi ranks?

Secure taxi ranks operate in popular nightlife precincts on Friday and Saturday nights, and for some special events. Translink says they are staffed by taxi rank marshals and security guards and monitored by CCTV. The Gold Coast ranks it lists are:

Broadbeach Left side of Surf Parade, adjacent to Victoria Park

Translink says late night FlatFare taxis are available from some secure ranks and usually work out cheaper than a regular taxi. On the Brisbane list the page marks which ranks are FlatFare ranks, but the Gold Coast list does not, so ask the marshal at the rank.

How much is a Gold Coast FlatFare?

The fare depends on the zone you are going to. These are the zones for places many people head home to from Surfers Paradise, with the fares as published:

Suburb Zone Single fare Double fare Triple fare
Surfers Paradise One $5.00 $8.00 $15.00
Broadbeach Two $7.00 $11.00 $21.00
Southport South Two $7.00 $11.00 $21.00
Mermaid Beach Three $8.00 $12.00 $24.00
Labrador Four $10.00 $15.00 $30.00
Miami Five $12.00 $17.00 $36.00
Burleigh Heads Six $14.00 $21.00 $42.00
Robina Ten $12.00 $18.00 $36.00
Varsity Lakes Eleven $14.00 $21.00 $42.00

The page lists every Gold Coast suburb in its zone table. It does not explain what the single, double and triple fares mean for a Gold Coast trip, so check the wording on Translink’s page before you rely on a figure. The zone numbers do not rise with the fare: Robina is zone ten and costs less than Burleigh Heads, which is zone six.

What if I am coming down from Brisbane?

The page lists the standard last train departing Central station for each line. For the Gold Coast line it is 12:29am on Friday and Saturday nights, 10:59pm from Monday to Thursday and 10:59pm on Sunday. Beenleigh line trains leave Central at 12:34am on Friday and Saturday, and Nightlink trains run on that line after midnight. Translink says these times do not include connecting services or extra trains for special events, so use the journey planner for your own connection.

None of the November evening tram closures between Helensvale and Gold Coast University Hospital falls on a Friday or Saturday night. Our article on the November evening tram closures lists the dates.

What about race weekend?

For the Gold Coast 500 from 23 to 25 October, Translink lists extra trams on Friday night from 7pm to 8pm, and on Saturday up to 9:30pm, and a race ticket gives free travel on G: services. See our Gold Coast 500 free public transport guide. Outside a ticket, the usual 50 cent tram fare is in our G:link fares guide. For help with services, call Translink on 13 12 30.
