What is GEED UP at CSi Club Southport on 6 November?

The City’s listing calls GEED UP a free show to kick off the weekend, with three-part harmonies, hip-hop choreography, breakdancing, acrobatics, some DJing and rapping, and hits from every era, presented as a “slightly chaotic, laugh out loud tribute act”. All ages are welcome. It runs from 8:30pm to 10:30pm at CSi Club Southport, 154a Scarborough Street, Southport, and the club’s number on the listing is 07 5532 9944.

How does the Pest Fishing Classic work on 7 November?

The City and My Catch Australia run the annual Pest Fishing Classic to tackle invasive species such as tilapia. You bring your own fishing gear, and fishing takes place across the Gold Coast, with advice, weigh-in and presentations at headquarters in Robina, from 6am to 4pm. The listing says you do not need to catch a fish to win a prize, only to take part, and that there are major, minor and random prize draws. It says the event is suitable for ages 5 and up, participants under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian, and everyone must accept an indemnity clause. Headquarters has a free BBQ sausage sizzle, a canteen, toilets and a water bubbler, and live worms are sold by The Bait Shop. The listing says the headquarters address, fishing locations, rules and prize categories are in the email confirmation after you register.

What is on on Sunday 8 November?

Three events run on the morning and afternoon of Sunday 8 November.

The Mateship Run, at Currumbin RSL, 165 Duringan Street, runs from 6:45am to 10am and raises funds and awareness for veteran services around Remembrance Day. Its main event is an 11.11km run, a nod to the Armistice at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, with a timing mat at the 10km point. There is also a 5km event and a 2.5km Junior Dash, and this year adds a team element in which the times of a team’s fastest 4 runners in the 11.11km are added together. Entry is from $15 and you register on the listing. Currumbin RSL’s number is (07) 5534 7999.

The Walk With Me dog walk, run by City of Gold Coast Animal Management at Eddie Kornhauser Reserve, Casuarina Drive, Elanora, is free and runs from 8am to 9:30am. It begins with a short briefing and a short, leisurely on-leash group walk, then a Q&A with a professional dog trainer, with free goodie bags for each family. To take part your dog must be on a leash on arrival, fully vaccinated and in good health with flea and worm treatment up to date within 3 weeks of the walk, and registered with the City and wearing its tag. Questions go to loveyourpet@goldcoast.qld.gov.au.

What a Wonderful World is a free, family-friendly multicultural festival on the Great Lawn at Broadwater Parklands, Marine Parade, Southport, from 12pm to 4pm, dedicated to Slavic culture. The listing names live performances, children’s activities, cultural displays and community participation, but gives no running order. It says the festival supports children, families and diverse communities, and aims to bring people together in a welcoming and accessible public space.

What is on at the Mudgeeraba Gem Show on 14 November?

The Mudgeeraba Gem Show runs from 8am to 3pm at Mudgeeraba Show Grounds, 115 Mudgeeraba Road, Worongary. Adults pay $5 and children under 12 are free. The listing says it has exhibits of fossicked rocks, slabs and minerals, with lapidary and silver smithing supplies and equipment, opals, minerals, fossils and gemstones for sale at prices it says are often below retail, plus displays and demonstrations of gem cutting. The listing describes it as a prominent annual event and a gateway into the lapidary arts, and the listing gives the Community Lapidary Club Inc as the contact.

Can I park at these events?

Each City listing carries the same advice: use public transport, walking or cycling, and plan with Translink’s journey planner. If you drive, the City says parking may be limited, the EasyPark app can start, stop or extend metered parking, and parking regulations still apply during events. Only the Marine Expo listing says parking is available, at the marina. See our guide to City of Gold Coast parking meters.
