The new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre opens on Saturday 7 November 2026, and the City of Canterbury Bankstown says entry is free all day: doors open at 10:15am and the centre closes at 6pm. Before that there is free family fun at Tasker Park next door, with an official ceremony at 9:30am outside the new entrance.
This guide uses the council’s opening event page and the Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatics website, both read on Monday 2 November 2026. It covers the timetable, what the centre has, how to get there, and what it costs once the free day is over. All times are Sydney time (daylight saving).
What is the timetable on Saturday 7 November?
| Time | What is on | Where |
|---|---|---|
| From 9am | Free family fun: kids’ activities, rides, entertainment | Tasker Park |
| 9:30am to 10am | Official ceremony | Outside CLAC |
| 9:30am to 1pm | Park celebrations: entertainment, music, kids’ activities | Tasker Park |
| 10:15am to 6pm | Doors open, free entry to indoor and outdoor facilities | CLAC |
| 1pm | Park activities finish | Tasker Park |
| 6pm | Centre closes | CLAC |
The council’s page gives the park start as 9am in its introduction and in its answers to common questions, and as 9:30am in the program table. If you want to catch the first activities, plan on 9am. The ceremony is listed as welcome, Welcome to Country, a smoking ceremony, a didgeridoo performance, the national anthem, formal speeches and the ribbon cutting.

What will I find inside the new centre?
The council describes the centre as having an outdoor 50-metre heated pool, an indoor 25-metre heated pool, an indoor warm-water program pool, a kids’ outdoor water play area, a sauna, a group fitness studio, a new reformer studio and a fully equipped gym with personal training spaces. The Leisure & Aquatics website adds a cafe and lockers, and describes the water play area as a splash park with a flowing stream, buckets and spray features.
On the opening day the council lists these activities, all free with entry:
- Access to the indoor and outdoor pools and the water play area
- Learn to Swim assessments and mini lessons
- Gym workout sessions and group fitness classes
- Guided facility tours through the day, covering the pools, water play area, cafe, sauna, gym and fitness studios
- Pre-sale membership offers
The council says gym sessions and fitness classes can be booked on the day, and that appropriate footwear and attire are required. It does not say how many places each class has.

How do I get to CLAC by public transport?
The council says on-site parking will be available but encourages people to use public transport where possible. It does not name a station. The nearest is Canterbury Station. We calculated the straight-line distance from OpenStreetMap positions: about 490 metres from the centre building to the station, and about 380 metres from the middle of Tasker Park. That is our own calculation, not an official figure, and the walking route will be a little longer.
Canterbury is one of the stations the NSW Government listed for the new Southwest Metro, which began carrying passengers at 4:31am on Friday 30 October 2026. People coming from Bankstown, Punchbowl, Wiley Park, Lakemba, Belmore or Campsie can reach Canterbury on that line without changing trains. Check the Transport for NSW trip planner for Saturday timetables before you go.

Is there parking?
The council’s page says “on-site parking will be available”. It does not say how many spaces there are, where the entrance is, or whether parking is free.
What does it cost after the free day?
The council’s Leisure & Aquatics website lists casual entry prices. These are the prices on the site on Monday 2 November 2026. The council’s own page says membership details will be shared closer to opening, so check the website before you buy.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Swim, adult (18 years and over) | $8.10 |
| Swim, concession, child or student | $6.00 |
| Swim, family (2 adults and up to 3 children) | $28.50 |
| Swim, child 5 years and under with a paying adult | Free |
| Sauna and swim at Canterbury | $13.10 ($11.00 concession) |
| Gym access at Canterbury, single visit (CB Wellness) | $26.00 ($21.00 concession) |
| Locker hire at Canterbury | $3.00 |
| Spectator | $4.20 |
The Entry fees page, which covers the council’s centres and does not split these items by site, also lists multi-visit swim passes: the CB Aquatic 10-visit pass is $74.00 and the 20-visit pass is $138.00, with concession versions at $55.00 and $74.95. A Reformer Pilates single session is $48.00 and an InBody scan at Canterbury is $45.00. Swim school lessons are $22.00 for the first student per lesson, $21.00 for the second and $20.00 for the third. These are listed prices on 2 November and may change before opening.
The Canterbury page also shows three memberships, charged every fortnight: Aquatic at $30.00 (joining fee $15.00), Move at $41.50 (joining fee $20.00) and Wellness at $54.00 (joining fee $30.00). The page lists gym access and a personalised program under Wellness as not yet available, so this guide does not describe them further. Fitness memberships and swim school enrolments are expected to be announced closer to the opening, and the council has a sign-up for pre-sale updates through its website.

Who runs it, and who do I contact?
The centre is run by the City of Canterbury Bankstown through Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatics, which also runs the Birrong, Max Parker and Roselands centres. For questions about the opening day the council lists the number (02) 9707 5500 and the email cbleisureandaquatics@cbcity.nsw.gov.au.
The Leisure & Aquatics website still shows the Canterbury centre as closed on Monday 2 November, while it lists Birrong, Max Parker and Roselands as open that day.

- Final membership and swim school prices and enrolment dates
- The number of car spaces and whether parking is free
- How many places each gym or fitness class has on the day
This guide will be updated if the council publishes these details.
