The easiest free parking for Glenelg’s Jetty Road is the Partridge Street East car park at 12 Partridge Street, where Jetty Road Glenelg says the first 2 hours are free, and the Wallis Cinemas car park at 2/4 Cowper Street, which also gives 2 hours free (4 hours for cinema patrons). If you would rather not drive, the Glenelg tram runs from the city to Moseley Square at the foot of Jetty Road.
This guide follows the Jetty Road Glenelg parking page and getting here page, the City of Holdfast Bay’s getting here page and parking restrictions page, and the DIT’s announcement that trams resumed, all read on 7 November 2026. Parts of the council’s getting here page are out of date, and we say where.
Where can I park near Jetty Road, Glenelg?
Jetty Road Glenelg, the precinct’s own site, says there are plenty of places to park at Jetty Road, including 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour street parking. It lists these car parks:
| Car park | Address | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| Wallis Cinemas Car Park | 2/4 Cowper Street | 0 to 2 hours free; 4 hours free for cinema patrons |
| Partridge Street East Car Park | 12 Partridge Street | 0 to 2 hours free |
| Elizabeth Street Car Park | Corner of Elizabeth Street and Moseley Street | No terms listed |
| Bayside Village Shopping Centre Car Park | 19 to 31 Brighton Road | No terms listed |
| Stamford Grand Car Park | Saint Johns Row | No terms listed |
| Hope Street Car Park | Hope Street, next to Glenelg Library | No terms listed |
| The Beachouse Car Park (Wilson Parking) | 2 Colley Terrace | No terms listed |
| KPark Colley Terrace | Enter via Durham Street | No terms listed |
The page gives no prices for the paid car parks and no rates for what happens after the 2 free hours. We have not guessed them. For private car parks such as the Beachouse, the council says to follow the signs in that car park.

Where are the accessible parking bays?
Jetty Road Glenelg says accessible parking bays are signposted or have the accessibility symbol painted on the road or on the signs covering the space. It lists bays at these places: Jetty Road; Colley Terrace (two next to Colley Reserve and one near Moseley Square); High Street near Church Street; Partridge Street, near Partridge House and in both off-street car parks; Rose Street; Byron Street; Waterloo Street; Nile Street; the Coles car park; Sussex Street; Elizabeth Street; and Moseley Street.
The council says you may only park in a disabled parking area if you or a passenger holds and displays a disability parking permit. With a permit, it says, you can park for extra time in other timed areas, as shown here:
| Sign says | Permit holder can park for |
|---|---|
| Less than 30 minutes | A maximum of 30 minutes |
| More than 30 minutes but less than 1 hour | 2 hours |
| More than 1 hour | Double the time on the sign |
At fee-paying “24P” areas in the council’s car parks, a permit holder can park for 90 minutes free; if you need longer, you buy a ticket and the time you buy is doubled. The council says this applies to council-owned parking, not to private car parks. Interstate and international disability permits are honoured with the same concessions, and the permit must be current and displayed in the front window, with the holder as the driver or a passenger. A TPI permit is not the same as a disability permit: the council says a TPI holder may not park in signed disabled areas but can stay in timed areas for double the signed time, and must still pay in a fee-paying area.
What are the Holdfast Bay parking rules?
The council says it enforces parking restrictions under the Australian Road Rules and that officers can issue parking fines. It lists these basics:
- Read all signs and road markings.
- Do not stop in an active bicycle lane unless it is signed as inactive.
- Do not stop on yellow lines to pick up or drop off passengers.
- Do not park across or partly block a driveway.
- Park at least 10 metres from an intersection, or 20 metres if there are traffic lights, measured from the edge of the gutter.
- Park at least 20 metres behind or 10 metres before a bus stop.
- Do not park on reserves, footpaths or pedestrian crossings and ramps.
The council also says time limits apply to some car parks and streets so that vehicles turn over, which helps shops and visitors, and that they should not be used for all-day parking. Large vehicles over 7.5 metres in length or 4.5 tonnes cannot park on a roadway in the council area for longer than one hour. For questions, phone the council on (08) 8229 9999.

Is there EV charging in Glenelg?
The council lists these chargers, with no date on the page:
| Charger | Where |
|---|---|
| Tesla superchargers (6) | Ground floor, Partridge Street East car park, Glenelg |
| RAA and Chargefox chargers (2) | Glenelg Oval car park, Brighton Road, Glenelg East |
| Tesla Destination Charger | 2 Jetty Road, Glenelg, in the Stamford Grand Hotel |
| Chargefox charging station | 626 Anzac Highway, Glenelg |
Is the Glenelg tram running?
Yes. The DIT announced that trams between the city and Glenelg would resume from 6:07am on Monday 26 January 2026, after six months of construction on the $870 million Tram Grade Separation Projects. The projects removed level crossings with new overpasses at Morphett Road and Marion Road/Cross Road, and rebuilt the existing South Road overpass. The DIT said the new elevated Stop 6 at South Road would not open that day while lifts were commissioned, with shuttle buses carrying passengers to the next stop until it opened, and that final works on the new tram stops would continue after service returned.
The City of Holdfast Bay’s getting here page still says the tram is temporarily suspended until 31 January 2026 and mentions replacement buses GLN1, GLN2 and GLN3. That wording is out of date: the DIT says service resumed in January. We have not confirmed whether Stop 6 has opened since.

How long does the tram take, and when does it run?
Jetty Road Glenelg says the Bay Tram runs regularly from the heart of the Adelaide CBD and takes about 30 minutes from Victoria Square. It says the tram stop at Moseley Square, at the end of Jetty Road, has trams running frequently on these hours:
| Day | First to last tram (Moseley Square stop) |
|---|---|
| Weekdays | 5:10am to 11:30pm |
| Saturdays and Sundays | 6:20am to 11:30pm |
| Public holidays | 7:30am to 11:30pm |
The page says trams have wheelchair access but no bikes are allowed. That page carries a 2020 copyright line and does not say when the hours were last checked, so confirm the current timetable and frequency with the Adelaide Metro journey planner or on 1300 311 108, the number the page gives. For what a fare costs and how to pay, see our guide to Adelaide Metro fares and Tap and Pay.

Which buses go to Glenelg?
Moseley Street in Glenelg, which the council describes as the last street on the left as you head towards the jetty, has buses 265, 190, 167 and J1 going to the city, and more. The council and Jetty Road Glenelg both list buses to Henley Beach, Harbour Town, Adelaide Airport, Brighton, Marion Shopping Centre and Unley. Buses do not take bikes, according to both pages.
| From | How | Time given |
|---|---|---|
| Adelaide CBD | Bus 265 (City to Glenelg) | About 35 to 45 minutes |
| Adelaide CBD | Tram from Victoria Square | About 30 minutes |
| Adelaide Airport | Bus J1 | About 25 minutes |
| Adelaide Airport | Car, via Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Tapley’s Hill Road | About 10 minutes |
| Adelaide Airport | Taxi or rideshare | About 10 minutes; the council says approximately AUD $20 |
| Adelaide CBD | Car, via West Terrace onto Anzac Highway | About 20 minutes |
| Adelaide CBD | Taxi or rideshare | About 20 minutes; the council’s line gives approximately $40 but words it as a cab ride from the Airport Taxi Rank, so we do not rely on that price |
The taxi prices are the council’s figures with no date, and rideshare prices vary, so treat them as a rough guide. See also our guide to getting from Adelaide Airport to the city.

What about Brighton and Seacliff, bikes and the beach?
South of Glenelg along Brighton Road, the council says Jetty Road, Brighton, is a 10-minute drive south of Glenelg along Brighton Road, and Seacliff is a further 5 minutes along Brighton Road, turning right onto Wheatland Street. It says buses 263 or 265 from the CBD take about 55 minutes to reach Brighton and Seacliff, and that the Seaford train line leaves Adelaide Railway Station about every 15 to 25 minutes and takes about 45 to 50 minutes.
For cyclists, both pages say Adelaide City Bikes are free to hire from the CBD, and suggest following Anzac Highway or the Mike Turtur Bikeway. The council adds that from Glenelg you can follow the Glenelg to Seacliff Coastal Walk to Seacliff via Brighton. The DIT said in January that elevated shared-use paths along the Mike Turtur Bikeway would open in stages during 2026, with existing pedestrian and cyclist detours remaining while works continued; we have not confirmed the current state.

What has not been confirmed?
- Prices at the paid car parks, and what the Partridge Street and Wallis Cinemas car parks charge after the free hours. Jetty Road Glenelg gives only the free periods.
- Whether the council’s out-of-date tram note has been removed, and whether Stop 6 at South Road has opened.
- The current tram frequency. The weekday, weekend and public holiday hours above come from a page with a 2020 copyright line.
- Whether the EV charger list is current. The council page gives no date.
- Time limits on individual streets. Signs on the street decide, and the council asks drivers to read them each time they park.
We will update this guide if the pages change. For parking questions, phone the City of Holdfast Bay on (08) 8229 9999; for tram and bus questions, Adelaide Metro on 1300 311 108.
