Parking at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Woolloongabba costs up to $38 a day at the Wilson Parking car park or a flat $24 at the First Parking car park, according to the two operators’ own pages on 7 November 2026, and both are a little higher than the figures on the hospital’s own parking page.

This guide uses Metro South Health’s parking and public transport page (updated May 2026) and the operators’ pages for Wilson Parking and First Parking (PA Central), all read on Saturday 7 November 2026.

Is there any parking on the hospital grounds?

The hospital says there are two multi-level car parks near the hospital, Wilson Parking and First Parking, and no other parking on the grounds. The streets around the hospital have parking time limits, and the hospital’s directions page says Brisbane City Council parking restrictions apply in the surrounding streets. It tells drivers to follow the signs to the two car parks and to use the electronic pay stations before exiting.

Where are the car parks and how do I get inside?

The hospital’s main entrance is off Ipswich Road and the emergency department has its own entrance off Cornwall Street. The hospital says all entrances are accessible by wheelchair, including levels 1 and 2 through the Cornwall Street entrance.

How much does Wilson Parking cost?

The hospital’s page lists Wilson’s costs “as of 2 February 2026”. Wilson’s own page, read on 7 November, shows a higher price at every step.

Length of stay Hospital’s page (2 February 2026) Wilson’s page (7 November 2026)
0 to 30 minutes $7 $8
30 to 60 minutes $15 $16
1 to 1.5 hours $21 $22
1.5 to 2 hours $28 $29
2 to 3 hours $35 $36
3 hours or more (daily maximum) $37 $38

The hospital’s page also lists a motorbike maximum of $18 for up to 24 hours, which must be paid at the cashier lane when exiting, and a 5-day visitor pass for $85 that you can use for any 5 days you choose, or on 5 days in a row. It says a surcharge of 1.5% applies when paying by credit card. Wilson’s page does not show these three items, so check them with the operator. Hospital staff are asked to email staff.pah@wilsonparking.com.au for staff rates.

How much does First Parking cost?

The hospital’s page lists a daily flat rate of $22.00 “as of 1 May 2026” and an Express price of $14.40. First Parking’s own page, read on 7 November, shows a flat rate of $24 and a free-membership rate of $19.20.

Rate Hospital’s page (1 May 2026) First Parking’s page (7 November 2026)
Daily flat rate $22.00 $24
Express or free membership $14.40 $19.20
When the day runs Entry after 4am, exit before 4am the next day; pay per exit The same: entry after 4:00am, exit before 4:00am the following day; pay per exit

Both pages say charges start again at 4am each day, so a visit that crosses 4am is charged as two days. First Parking’s page says there is no need to book and that entry is ticketless, using licence plate recognition. The hospital’s page says that you pay at an electronic pay station before you exit and that cash payments are not accepted. The hospital also says the Express saving is available through the First Parking website; staff and students on hospital placement are asked to email PAstaff@firstparking.com.au for staff rates.

Which price should I trust?

The operator’s. Wilson and First Parking set their own prices, and each page shows a higher price than the hospital’s, which carries older dates (2 February and 1 May). None of the three pages says when the new rates took effect, so the safest approach is to treat the hospital’s figures as a guide and the operator’s page as the price you are likely to pay. Prices can change without notice, and neither operator’s page gives a date.

Is there a discount for patients and carers?

Possibly, at the Wilson car park only. The hospital says you may be eligible for concessional parking if you are going to hospital at least twice a week for more than 2 weeks in a row, need to attend for an extended period, are over 65 and get an Age Pension, or are caring for a patient and get a Carer Payment. To apply, fill in the Concessional Parking Application Form and take it to the Car Park Administration Officer at the Information Desk on the ground floor of Building 1. They are open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm and closed on public holidays. The form is a PDF on the hospital’s page.

Once approved, you bring the approved form and your parking ticket to reception every visit, and staff validate the ticket so that you pay the discounted rate when you leave. The hospital’s page does not say what the discounted rate is.

Where is the drop-off and accessible parking?

There are two pick-up and drop-off areas outside the main building, reached through the Ipswich Road or Cornwall Street entrances, and the hospital says you can stop there only for a few minutes. Short-term pick-up and drop-off parking is available outside the Transit Care Hub, and the emergency department has its own drop-off off Cornwall Street. Accessible parking at the Wilson car park is on level 4, and you must display an Australian or international disability parking permit. The hospital says that if you need to borrow a wheelchair you can use the green phone by the walkway on level 5 and ask for help.

Can I catch a bus or train?

The hospital lists a bus station on the grounds, where buses often stop, including routes 66, 169, 139 and 209. Buses also run along Ipswich Road with stops outside the hospital (PA Hospital Stop 14) and on Cornwall Street. The directions section of the hospital’s page says train passengers can connect to a bus at Roma Street station, taking route 66 to the PA Hospital busway station.

The page names two stations for trains and does not reconcile them. The directions section says Dutton Park station is a short walk down Cornwall Street, while the public transport section says the closest train station is Park Road on the Beenleigh line, with a connecting busway to the hospital. The Buranda bus station is about 2km away. Use Translink’s journey planner or call 13 12 30 (TTY: 13 36 77, then ask for 13 12 30). Our go card and contactless guide covers how to pay.

Are there free shuttle buses?

Yes, two. The Ipswich Road shuttle runs from Ipswich Road to the main hospital building every 15 minutes, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 3:30pm. It is wheelchair accessible and has volunteers to help. The Burke Street shuttle runs often between the main building and Burke Street. The hospital publishes a timetable PDF for each shuttle, and it describes the Burke Street service only as running “often”, so use the timetable on the hospital’s page.

What about taxis, bikes and the hospital map?

The hospital lists two taxi companies: Black and White Cabs on 13 32 22 and 13cabs on 13 22 27. Bike racks are at the entry to the hospital. The hospital map on its page shows building entrances, car parks, drop-off areas and pay stations, and there are separate maps for each level and for the Emergency Department. The hospital is divided into an Orange Side and a Blue Side, with signs colour-coded for each, and it asks outpatients to arrive 15 minutes early, check in with reception and bring their Medicare card and any concession cards.
