Park in the multi-deck car park off Winthrop Avenue if you are visiting Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital: the hospital says it is the closest car park to the hospital. Parking is charged by the whole hour, with the first 15 minutes free, and the Main Entrance and the Piazza at the front of the hospital are closed, so you walk in through E Block.

This guide uses the SCGH visiting page and the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre (QEIIMC) Trust pages on rates, parking upgrades, public transport and infringements, checked on Saturday 7 November 2026. Perth uses Australian Western Standard Time (UTC+8), with no daylight saving.

What does parking cost?

How long Visitor rate (as of 1 July 2026)
0 to 15 minutes Free
15 minutes to 1 hour $4.00
1 to 2 hours $8.00
2 to 3 hours $12.00
3 to 4 hours $16.00
4 to 5 hours $20.00
5 to 6 hours $24.00
6 to 7 hours $28.00
7 to 24 hours $28.00

The QEIIMC Trust says charges are not pro rata, so a stay of 61 minutes is charged in the next whole-hour band. Additional charges apply after 24 hours. The same rate applies across the site, according to the SCGH page, which sends readers to the Trust’s page for fees.

Which car park is closest?

Car park Where
Multi-deck car park Entry off Winthrop Avenue; closest to SCGH; includes ACROD bays; owned by Capella and operated by Wilson Parking
Car Park 3A Caledenia Crescent
Car Park 4A Off Verdun Street
Car Park 5 Underneath the Cancer Centre, off Gairdner Drive
Car Park 7 Off Hospital Avenue

The whole campus has a cap of 5,350 parking bays, set by the Western Australian Planning Commission: a maximum of 4,000 staff bays, 1,200 visitor bays, and 150 special purpose, short-term and accessibility bays. That is why the hospital warns that parking can be difficult at peak times and asks you to allow ample time to find a bay.

Is the Main Entrance open?

No. The SCGH visiting page says the Main Entrance door and Piazza are temporarily closed to vehicles and pedestrians for an extended period. Patients and visitors enter and leave through the main E Block doors. A limited number of 15-minute drop-off bays and accessibility bays are still next to the Piazza, and the Piazza Car Park is limited to three hours in 24 hours; after that the car must move to a long-term car park such as the multi-deck car park. The Trust’s rates page repeats that the SCGH main entrance and Piazza Car Park are closed.

Inside, the Green Lifts in G Block are also closed. People are directed to the Blue and Gold Lifts via the E Block entrance. If you are going to the Wound Management Clinic, ICU, Cardiovascular Medicine, Breast Screen, Occupational Therapy or Podiatry, use the Gold Lifts and allow 30 minutes of travel time because of infrastructure works. Visiting hours are 10am to 7pm, with patients encouraged to rest between 1pm and 3pm. For after-hours entry between 8pm and 5am, use the intercom at the E Block entrance.

Can I get cheaper parking for repeat treatment?

Some patients can. SCGH says renal, cancer services and cystic fibrosis inpatients who have explored all alternative means of transport may be assessed for subsidised parking, and approved patients receive discounted parking. Ask the Social Work department on 08 6457 4666, or visit the Social Work Department on the first floor of E Block at the western end. Patients of SCGH and Perth Children’s Hospital may be eligible for concession parking based on set criteria, and each hospital’s website has the detail.

How do I get here without a car?

Buses connect the hospital with the city, train stations and surrounding suburbs, with several stops along Hospital Avenue. The Trust lists bus stops on Hospital Avenue outside the Oral Health Centre, Perth Children’s Hospital, the multi-deck car park, G Block and C Block. Call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 or use the Transperth journey planner. Seniors and people on various pensions can get public transport concessions. Our guide to Transperth fares and Go Anywhere tickets covers what the ticket costs.

The campus has taxi call buttons and numbered pick-up points, and the Trust lists DiDi and Uber as ride-share options. There are no designated ride-share points, so choose a safe spot that is not a parking-restricted area. The campus also has two free buggy services run by volunteers, an on-demand service and a hop-on-hop-off circle route, for people who find the grounds a long walk.

How does the new parking technology work?

The Trust says all parking equipment across the campus is being upgraded. New equipment and cameras have been installed in all boom-gated car parks, with licence plate recognition to validate vehicles and automate entry and exit, and more flexible payment options. The Trust says the aim is to remove the need for physical permits. Pay stations accept cash and credit or debit cards. For help with pay stations, Pay by Plate or PayStay, the Trust lists PayStay on 1300 322 111, Wilson Parking on (08) 9388 2546 (24 hours) and the QEII Parking Department on (08) 6457 1787 (8:00am to 3:00pm). Refunds and charge queries go to Wilson Parking.

What if I get a parking fine?

Parking is enforced under the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre (Delegated Site) By-Laws 1986, and the campus speed limit is 30 km/h or lower. The Trust says you can pay an infringement online with a credit card, by phone on (08) 6457 1787 between 8:00am and 3:00pm Monday to Friday, or by cheque or money order made out to “QEIIMC Parking Department”, posted to Locked Bag 2012, Nedlands WA 6009 with the notice number.

If you think a notice was wrong, you can appeal online through Frog Parking or by email to the QEII Parking Department. Appeals must be in writing and do not stop the normal infringement process, including referral to the Fines Enforcement Registry. The Trust says no member of the Parking Department can overturn a notice, replies take about two weeks, and the reasons it generally does not accept include not realising the time, appointment delays, confusion about payment at other sites and signage issues.

How do I plan the trip?

  1. Aim for the multi-deck car park off Winthrop Avenue, or pick Car Park 3A, 4A, 5 or 7 if it suits your clinic better.
  2. Enter the hospital through the E Block doors, not the Main Entrance.
  3. Budget $4.00 for each whole hour, and pay before you leave.
  4. If you will be back for repeat treatment, ask Social Work about subsidised parking.
  5. If a notice arrives, pay or appeal before the due date shown on it.
