Parking at Sunshine Coast University Hospital costs $3.30 for up to 30 minutes and rises in steps to $19.70 for 2.5 hours or more, as of October 2026. Sunshine Coast Health says these rates apply from 6 July 2026, and the 50% concession halves every step, so a full day costs $9.85 for people who qualify.
The hospital is at 6 Doherty Street, Birtinya. Point Parking runs the car park, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This guide sets out the rates, who can claim the concession, where to be dropped off and how to arrive by bus or taxi. It also covers a second car park nearby that lists lower prices.

How much does parking cost?
The charge depends on how long the car is in the car park. The table below is from the Sunshine Coast Health parking page, last updated June 2026. Point Parking lists the same full rates.
| Parked time | Full cost | With 50% concession |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 0.5 hour | $3.30 | $1.65 |
| 0.5 to 1 hour | $6.60 | $3.30 |
| 1 to 1.5 hours | $9.90 | $4.95 |
| 1.5 to 2 hours | $13.20 | $6.60 |
| 2 to 2.5 hours | $16.50 | $8.25 |
| 2.5 hours to full day, or lost ticket | $19.70 | $9.85 |
Point Parking says the rates apply from the time of entry to the time of exit, and that entry is subject to the terms and conditions posted at the car park entry. Neither page lists a separate overnight rate: the 2.5-plus hours rate of $19.70 is also the daily maximum and the lost-ticket charge.
What will a typical visit cost?
Using the published rates, a quick drop-in that keeps the car in the car park for up to 30 minutes costs $3.30. An outpatient appointment of up to 2 hours costs $13.20 at the full rate, or $6.60 with the concession. A visit of 2.5 hours or longer, such as a day procedure or an afternoon at a bedside, costs $19.70, or $9.85 with the concession. Because each half-hour step adds about $3.30, an extra 15 minutes past a boundary costs a full step, so check the time on your ticket before you walk back to the car.

Who can get the concession rate?
Sunshine Coast Health lists five groups that can get concessional parking:
- Health Care Card holders.
- Patients and carers who need to attend hospital frequently.
- Patients and carers who need to attend hospital for an extended period of time.
- Patients and carers with special needs who require assistance.
- Patients and carers experiencing financial hardship. A 100% concession may be available, on application.
To claim it, go to the main reception and take your parking ticket with you. The page does not say whether the concession can be applied after you have left the car park, so ask at reception before you exit if you are unsure.
Where do I park if I need to come often?
Patients who visit often for services such as cancer care or renal dialysis can use dedicated, authorised parking, which is reached from Frazer Lane. After-hours maternity patients can use the same parking. Level 1 of the public car park has dedicated accessible parking, and the Level 1 link bridge gives direct access to the hospital from the public levels (G, M and 1).

Where is the pick-up and drop-off?
There are two patient pick-up and drop-off areas: in front of the main entrance, reached from Doherty Street, and in front of the Emergency Department, reached from Hollows Lane. Sunshine Coast Health does not list a time limit for either area, so follow the signs at each one.
Can I get there by bus or taxi?
Sunshine Coast Health says there is a bus stop at the main entry of the hospital on Eccles Boulevard, and a second one close to the entry of Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. The private hospital says bus route 607 serves it seven days a week, from a stop on Eccles Boulevard two minutes’ walk from the hospital. The private hospital’s page points to the Translink website for the current timetable, so check it for the day you travel.
Taxis need to be ordered by phone. There is a taxi rank in front of the main entrance on Doherty Street. Sunshine Coast Health names Suncoast Cabs for the coastal region, on 131 008.

Is there a cheaper car park nearby?
The Oceanside car park at 3 Bright Place, Birtinya, is run by Secure Parking and is not part of the hospital. Secure Parking lists it as a 24-hour car park for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, the private hospital, the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (TAFE) and the University of the Sunshine Coast, with a maximum height of 2.20 metres. The entry and exit are on Bright Place.
| Oceanside option | Price listed |
|---|---|
| Hourly parking | From $2.00 |
| All-day parking | From $11.00 |
| Early bird (flexible) | From $11.00 |
| Overnight, single night | From $10.00 |
| Monthly parking | From $155 (new customers, minimum 3-month subscription) |
Secure Parking says the rates shown are current for the day and may vary, so confirm the price for your dates on its site before you go. You pay by tapping a credit card or phone in and out, or by pre-purchasing a PIN or QR code that is emailed to you. Secure Parking also says the car park has restricted lift and ramp access for disability access, which matters if you need step-free access. The private hospital’s own page says this car park is reached by entering via Bright Place, off Eccles Boulevard.
What about the private hospital car park?
Point Parking manages parking at both hospitals, which share the Sunshine Coast Health Campus. The private hospital sits at 3 Doherty Street. Its own parking page shows a lower set of rates: $3.10 for up to 30 minutes and $18.50 for 2.5 hours or more. Point Parking’s page for the campus shows $3.30 and $19.70. The two pages do not agree, and Point Parking, as the operator, is the one that applies the charge, so budget for $3.30 and $19.70 and check the signs and the ticket machine on the day. The private hospital’s general enquiries line is 07 5390 6000.

Can I charge an electric car?
Point Parking says the hospital has 12 Tesla charging stations on the Level P1 car park, available 24 hours a day and compatible with all electric vehicles. The page does not list charging prices, so check the stations on arrival.
Quick checklist before you drive in
- Keep your parking ticket: you need it to claim the concession at the main reception, and a lost ticket is charged at $19.70.
- Budget for the next step up if you may pass a half-hour mark: every half hour adds about $3.30 until 2.5 hours.
- If you visit often, ask the hospital about the dedicated parking reached from Frazer Lane.
- If you only need to drop someone off, use the pick-up and drop-off in front of the main entrance (Doherty Street) or the Emergency Department (Hollows Lane).
