Translink service update, last reviewed 6 October 2026

There will be no trains on the Sunshine Coast line between Caboolture and Gympie North from Monday 26 October to Wednesday 28 October 2026. Translink says railbuses will replace trains over that stretch, and trains will still run between Caboolture and Brisbane City.

The details below come from Translink’s weekday track closure notice for the Sunshine Coast line, which was last reviewed on Tuesday 6 October 2026 at 4.08pm and was read again on Tuesday 20 October. Translink tells passengers to allow extra travel time and to plan the journey closer to the date. This guide adds the railbus stop for each station from Translink’s rail replacement bus stops page.

Which railbus do I catch?

Translink lists three railbus routes. They stop at specific rail replacement bus stops near the affected stations, not always at the station itself.

Route What Translink says it does
R609 All stations between Landsborough and Caboolture
R610 Express between Caboolture and Landsborough, then all stations to Nambour
R612 Express between Caboolture and Nambour, then all stations to Gympie North

Read together, the route descriptions mean the stations from Elimbah to Beerwah are served by R609, the stations from Mooloolah to Nambour by R610, and the stations from Yandina to Gympie North by R612. Landsborough is the changeover between R609 and R610, and Nambour is the changeover between R610 and R612. The notice does not give times, so use the Translink journey planner to find the departures for your day.

Where is the railbus stop at each station?

Translink says these locations are subject to change and asks passengers to follow the directional signs at the station on the day. As of 20 October 2026 the page lists these stops for the Sunshine Coast line.

How do I get to and from Brisbane?

Translink says Sunshine Coast line trains will run between Caboolture and Brisbane City, and railbuses cover the rest of the line from Caboolture to Gympie North. The two parts meet at Caboolture, where Translink lists Caboolture bus station as the railbus stop. Translink also warns that you may need to transfer at a different station than usual to complete your journey, and that railbus travel times may vary with road and traffic conditions.

Translink gives the affected service as the T1 Nambour / Gympie North train. Translink lists its normal fares as applying, so there is no separate railbus fare.

What is happening on the weekend before?

Translink says another closure affecting the Sunshine Coast line takes place immediately before this one, on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October. That weekend closure also covers the Caboolture, Redcliffe Peninsula and Shorncliffe lines, and it is described in Translink’s separate weekend track closure notice. Our Brisbane weekend closure guide covers the stations on all four lines. Taken together, the two notices mean there are no trains between Caboolture and Gympie North from the first service on Saturday 24 October until the last service on Wednesday 28 October. Check the dates on each notice if your trip crosses both closures.

Will the trip take longer?

Translink says railbus travel times may vary due to road and traffic conditions, and it asks passengers to allow extra travel time. The notice does not give a journey time for any route, and it does not publish railbus departure times on the page. For a trip across several stops, such as Gympie North to Caboolture, the route descriptions show that a passenger on R612 can ride express to Nambour, but the notice leaves the timetable to the journey planner, so check it before you leave.

Can I take a bike or large items?

Bikes and e-scooters cannot be taken on railbuses. Translink links to its guidance on travelling with large items on the bus, so check that page if you carry luggage or other large items.

What works are being done?

Translink lists the works as the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1). The Department of Transport and Main Roads describes the project as being on the North Coast Line between Beerburrum and Nambour stations. It says main works construction began in 2025, with completion in 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting, and testing and commissioning finishing by early 2028.

The department says the project will increase the capacity and reliability of the North Coast Line, with more efficient travel and improved passenger and freight connections between the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Brisbane and beyond. It lists work to address 3 level crossings, expand 3 park ‘n’ ride facilities and duplicate the track between Beerburrum and Beerwah.

The department lists these features: duplicating the track between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains and between Glass House Mountains and Beerwah; an intersection upgrade at Beerburrum Road and Steve Irwin Way with a new road overpass on Beerburrum Road; expanding the park ‘n’ ride on the northern side of Beerburrum Station; replacing the Barrs Road level crossing at Glass House Mountains with a new road overpass connecting Barrs Road to Moffatt Road; closing 2 private level crossings with alternative access; replacing the Burgess Street road-over-rail bridge with a new road overpass; and building a new bus interchange on the eastern side of Landsborough Station.

  • If you are heading to Brisbane, plan the transfer at Caboolture.
  • Leave the bike or e-scooter at home: neither can be taken on a railbus.
