The City of Gold Coast’s Carey, Athol Paterson and Cloyne Road car parks in Southport all charge $3.20 an hour or $9.20 a day, and you pay between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Parking at all three is free outside those times, and charges apply on public holidays except Anzac Day.

The Broadwater car park nearby is priced and timed differently, at $3.60 an hour from 9am to 7pm every day. Prices on this page are as of October 2026, taken from the City’s car park pages.

What do the three car parks cost?

The City publishes the same rate table on each of the three pages:

Duration Price
Hourly $3.20
Daily $9.20
Weekly $42.00
Monthly $150.00
Quarterly (3 months) $427.00
Six-monthly $812.00

On those figures, a stay of 3 hours or more costs less at the daily rate than at the hourly rate. All three pages say parking is available 24/7 and is free outside the paid times.

Where is each car park?

Car park Where the City says it is Paid times
Carey Carpark A large outdoor car park on Marine Parade, across the Gold Coast Highway from Broadwater Parklands 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday
Athol Paterson Carpark A large outdoor car park next to Southport Library in Suter Street (the map address on the page is 25 Lawson St) 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday
Cloyne Road Carpark An outdoor car park between Cloyne Road and Marshall Lane 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday

The City does not publish a space count for these three car parks on the pages we saved.

Is Sunday free?

The three pages list fees for Monday to Saturday only. They also say charges, and time-limited measures, apply on public holidays, excluding Anzac Day. That wording differs slightly by page: Carey and Athol Paterson say “parking charges and time-limited measures” apply, and Cloyne Road says “parking fees and time restrictions” apply. If you park on a public holiday, check the signs and the meter.

How does Broadwater differ?

The City’s Broadwater Carpark page lists an hourly rate of $3.60, fees from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday, and charges on public holidays other than Anzac Day. It lists no daily rate. The City’s Broadwater Parklands page gives a different start time of 7am for metered parking there, which we cover in our Broadwater car park guide. If you arrive after 5pm, or on a Sunday, the three car parks above are in their free periods, while Broadwater is charging until 7pm.

How do I pay?

The meters at all three car parks take cards and coins. For the steps, receipts, the EasyPark app and faulty meters, see our guide to Gold Coast council parking meters.

Which vouchers work where?

All three pages say you can buy weekly, monthly, quarterly and six-monthly digital parking vouchers online. The Carey and Athol Paterson pages also list two multi-use vouchers; the Cloyne Road page lists neither.

Voucher Valid at Monthly 3 months 6 months
Multi-use carpark voucher Carey, Alex Black, Athol Paterson, Cypress Avenue and Mal Burke car parks only $279 $793 $1506
Southport multi-use carpark voucher Athol Paterson, Carey and Mal Burke car parks only $173 $489 $976

What does on-street parking in Southport cost?

The City’s Southport parking page says on-street metered parking operates Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, for up to four hours, with a progressive rate: $4.20 an hour for 0 to 2 hours and $6.40 an hour for 2 to 4 hours. All-day parking is available at a maximum of $10.50. The Southport Traffic Area is a two-hour area (2P) from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, except as signed, with no time limits on weekends and public holidays, although parking is paid on public holidays, excluding Anzac Day. The City adds that Southport off-street car park vouchers cannot be used for on-street parking.

What about Mal Burke Carpark?

The City’s Mal Burke Carpark page describes a two-storey car park in Hicks Street, Southport, opposite 11 Hicks Street. It has the same rates as the three car parks above, and the same paid times of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with parking free outside those times. The page lists a 2.08 metre height limit and says trailers are not permitted. The page says parking fees and time-limited measures apply on public holidays, excluding Anzac Day. It lists the same multi-use and Southport multi-use vouchers as the Carey page, and it does not list a capacity.
