Feast on Fifth, the free street party in Palm Beach, runs from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday 17 October, but Fifth Avenue closes well before that. The road is closed between the Gold Coast Highway and Cypress Terrace from 10am to 11:59pm, and the organisers list car parks as closing earlier, from 9am.

The event is presented by Division 13 Councillor Josh Martin and the City of Gold Coast, with live music, kids’ activities, fire performers, local restaurants and food trucks. Entry is free and there are no tickets.

What’s on

Along with the live music and kids’ activities, the organisers say local food trucks will join the Palm Beach restaurants, and there will be prizes and games at Pavilions Palm Beach. Their advice for getting a seat is to book a table directly with one of the restaurants, cafes or bars in the area, then enjoy the free on-street entertainment around it. Pavilions Palm Beach and Kids On 4th are listed as sponsors.

When and where is the road closed?

The organisers’ road closure letter to residents and businesses gives these times for Saturday 17 October:

What Time
Car parks close 9:00am
Fifth Avenue closed to traffic 10:00am – 11:59pm
Sound checks (amplified music) 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Event 4:00pm – 9:00pm

The closed section of Fifth Avenue runs from the Gold Coast Highway to Cypress Terrace. The City of Gold Coast’s road closure notice describes the same stretch as Gold Coast Highway to Cypress Avenue and lists it as a full road closure from 10:00am to 11:59pm. Detours will be signposted. The letter’s map shows detour and side road closed signs around the block bounded by Palm Beach Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Cypress Terrace and the Gold Coast Highway.

Where can I park?

The organisers describe Feast on Fifth as a local event and expect most people to walk, scooter or ride. Their FAQ says there is limited parking around the venue and side streets, and asks people to use public transport or ride share where possible. Follow the City’s parking rules to avoid a fine. No event car park is listed.

Getting there without a car

The organisers point to the Translink journey planner, taxis, Uber or other ride share, or walking, riding, scooting and skating. The G:link tram does not reach Palm Beach. It runs between Helensvale and Burleigh Heads, so tram passengers need a bus or ride share for the last part of the trip south.

If you are flying in, the route 777 bus from Gold Coast Airport travels north via Palm Beach.

Saturday 17 October is also a weekend with no Gold Coast line trains between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes, because of track works. Anyone coming from Brisbane by rail will be on a railbus for the Gold Coast end of the trip. See our article on the Gold Coast line weekend track closure.

Can I bring alcohol or my dog?

  • Alcohol: no. It is a public event and alcohol cannot be consumed on site. Queensland Police will attend throughout the event, along with security.
  • Dogs: allowed, as it is an open space, but they must be under control and on a lead at all times. The organisers warn there will be crowds, stalls and loud speakers, so you may want to leave your dog at home.
  • Food and drink: the organisers encourage you to buy from the local businesses and food trucks rather than bring your own.
  • Photos: photographers and videographers may be filming. By entering the event area you consent to being recorded.
  • Lost property: go to the event managers’ information tent on the day. After the event, lost property is kept at The Events Agency for 21 days.

Same weekend nearby

Feast on Fifth falls on the same Saturday as the Groundwater Country Music Festival in Broadbeach, which has its own road closures from Thursday 15 to Monday 19 October. Our Groundwater road closures and parking guide covers that event.
