Parking at HOTA, Home of the Arts, is free for the first 4 hours between 9am and 7pm, as long as you enter your vehicle registration at a parking meter when you arrive. If you stay longer than 4 hours, the City of Gold Coast, which runs the HOTA Precinct Carpark, lists a flat rate of $8.40. Parking is free and unrestricted before 9am and after 7pm. Prices are as of October 2026.

Two details differ between the City’s car park page and HOTA’s own Getting Here page. HOTA’s page lists the day rate as $8.00 and says parking is free on public holidays, while the City’s page lists $8.40 and says parking is paid on public holidays, excluding Anzac Day. The City operates the car park and describes its rules as new parking measures, so this guide follows the City’s page. Check the signs and the meter on the day.

HOTA says parking is available but limited, with almost 900 spaces across the precinct, and it can be limited during major events, festivals and the HOTA Markets. For those, HOTA encourages public transport or ride-share. Full details are on HOTA’s Getting Here page. Related guides:Australia Fair parking and Pacific Fair parking.

How do I get the 4 free hours?

Enter your vehicle registration at the parking meter when you arrive. That is how you redeem the free period between 9am and 7pm, so do it before you walk to the venue. The City says the offer is valid once per day, per vehicle, and that a vehicle may be issued with a parking infringement if the registration is not entered on arrival.

When you park Cost
9am to 7pm, up to 4 hours Free (enter your registration at the meter)
9am to 7pm, more than 4 hours $8.40 flat rate (City of Gold Coast)
Before 9am or after 7pm Free and unrestricted
Public holidays Paid, except Anzac Day (City of Gold Coast)

Pay upfront if you plan to stay longer than 4 hours. You can pay at a parking machine on site or through the EasyPark app, which the City says adds a 10% fee. Once you have paid, you can come and go during the same day and use any available all-day paid space in the precinct, as long as your registration was entered for the paid session.

Where is the accessible parking?

Accessible parking spaces are in the car parks near the entrance to the main building, the HOTA Gallery, and the playground by the lake. HOTA also lists designated drop-off and pick-up points at both HOTA Central and HOTA Gallery. If you have specific seating, mobility or access needs, HOTA asks you to contact its Box Office before your visit on (07) 5588 4000.

What happens on event nights?

On busy event nights parking fills quickly and traffic in the surrounding area can be congested, so it strongly recommends public transport, ride-share or active travel. If you are driving, it suggests parking nearby on Chevron Island and walking across the HOTA Green Bridge, which connects the precinct to the island.

For major events, traffic management may be in place around the precinct. Follow staff directions and signs on the night, and check HOTA’s website or social media for event-specific travel advice before you leave. Allow extra travel time for popular events.

HOTA is at 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise, on Evandale Lake, just over the bridge from Surfers Paradise. These are the options HOTA lists:

  • G:link light rail: ride to Surfers Paradise, then walk across Chevron Island. HOTA puts this at about a 20 minute walk. Timetables and fares are on ridetheg.com.au.
  • Bus and tram network: Translink connects HOTA to the rest of the Gold Coast and Brisbane. For ticket information, call 13 12 30.
  • HOPO Ferry: it runs between Surfers Paradise and the Broadwater Parklands, with stops at HOTA, Marina Mirage and Sea World.
  • Ride-share: HOTA suggests getting dropped off on Chevron Island. From Thomas Drive it is a short walk across the HOTA Green Bridge into the precinct.
  • Walk, cycle, scoot or skate: the HOTA Green Bridge links the precinct directly to Chevron Island. The City of Gold Coast has e-bikes for hire around the city.

How do I get home after a show?

After popular events, demand for taxis and ride-share is high and waits can be long. HOTA suggests arranging your pick-up away from the main entrance, or walking over the HOTA Green Bridge to Chevron Island for a quicker pick-up. Drop-off and pick-up points at HOTA are limited and get busy around event times, so allow extra time.

What about coaches and school groups?

HOTA has a dedicated coach and group drop-off. It asks groups to contact it in advance to arrange access, and recommends school groups coordinate drop-off and pick-up times with its team before the visit. Tour operators are welcome year-round and should also get in touch ahead of time.

What time are the venues open?

These are the opening hours HOTA lists, which matter if you are timing your parking:

Venue Hours
Box Office and HOTA Central Monday 9am to 5pm; Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 7:30pm; Sunday 10am to 7:30pm (later for events)
Gallery Studio and HOTA Shop Every day, 10am to 4pm
HOTA Cafe Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3:30pm; Sunday 11am to 3:30pm; Saturday: HOTA’s page shows 9am to 3:30am, which looks like a typo, so check with HOTA
Palette Restaurant Wednesday to Saturday, lunch 11:30am to 2:30pm and dinner from 5pm; closed Sunday to Tuesday
The Exhibitionist Bar Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 10pm; Sunday to Tuesday 10am to 4pm

Because the 4 free hours only apply from 9am to 7pm, a long afternoon at the Gallery followed by dinner at Palette can run past the free period. If you arrive for dinner after 7pm, parking is free and unrestricted.
