On Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October, Gold Coast line trains run express between Altandi and Roma Street from 9:30pm until the last service, so they do not stop at South Brisbane, South Bank or Boggo Road. Timetabled railbuses serve the inner-city stations instead, and normal trains return with the first service the next morning.
The works are in inner Brisbane, not on the Gold Coast, and Translink describes them as general track maintenance. They matter to Gold Coast passengers because Translink’s notice covers the Gold Coast line along with the Beenleigh and Cleveland lines on the same two nights.
Which trains and stations are affected?
Translink’s notice covers three lines. The Gold Coast line is the T5 Varsity Lakes service. The table shows what changes on each line.

| Line | What changes from 9:30pm | Stations listed in the notice |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Coast | Trains run express between Altandi and Roma Street via the Tennyson loop | Roma Street, South Brisbane, South Bank, Boggo Road |
| Beenleigh | Trains run express between Moorooka and Roma Street via the Tennyson loop | Roma Street, South Brisbane, Southbank, Boggo Road, Dutton Park, Fairfield, Yeronga, Yeerongpilly, Moorooka |
| Cleveland | Railbuses run between Roma Street and Cannon Hill | Roma Street, South Brisbane, South Bank, Boggo Road, Buranda, Coorparoo, Norman Park, Morningside, Cannon Hill |
For a trip on the Gold Coast line, the practical result is that the train does not stop at South Brisbane, South Bank or Boggo Road on these two nights. The notice lists no Gold Coast stations south of Altandi, so the usual stops there are not named in the closure.
Where do the railbuses run?
Translink says the railbuses run between Roma Street and Moorooka, and between Roma Street and Cannon Hill. They run to a timetable rather than on demand. The notice does not publish departure times, so use the journey planner for your trip. It also links to a map of the closure on the Translink page.

Translink’s general advice for track works is to look for signs at your station, or to check its rail replacement bus stop page, because railbuses leave from fixed bus stops. It asks passengers to allow extra travel time when catching a railbus. For this closure it does not give a set number of extra minutes.
Can I take a bike or e-scooter?
No. Bikes and e-scooters are not permitted on railbuses. If you ride to a station that night, plan another way to cover the railbus section.
How do fares work?
Normal fares and conditions apply on all scheduled services. Translink’s track works guidance says to touch on at your train station or on board selected railbus services, and to touch off when you reach your destination. You can also buy a paper ticket at the station before boarding.

Where there are no readers, such as when a whole station is closed, you may board a railbus without a valid ticket. Be ready to touch on or buy a ticket if you change to another service afterwards.
Does this clash with other Gold Coast works?
Other Gold Coast works are close to these dates, so here is how they line up.

- The weekend closure of the Gold Coast line from Beenleigh to Varsity Lakes is on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, and trains are back on Monday 19 October. See our guide to the Gold Coast line weekend track closure.
- The evening tram replacement between Helensvale and Gold Coast University Hospital runs on Sunday to Thursday nights, and the last October night is Thursday 22 October. Our G:link evening tram closures article has the replacement bus stops.
- The Gold Coast 500 runs from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October, so the Monday and Tuesday track closures fall after the race weekend. Our Gold Coast 500 transport and parking guide covers getting to the track.
If you are travelling home from Brisbane on either night, check whether your service leaves before 9:30pm. Trains before that time are not part of this closure.
Who to contact
