Parking around University Hospital Geelong is mainly City of Greater Geelong metered street parking, with 2, 3 and 4 hour zones on Swanston, Bellerine and Myers Streets, according to Barwon Health’s page updated 24 August 2026. Barwon Health does not list a hospital-run car park or a fee table on that page, so this guide sticks to what it and the City publish: the time limits, how to extend your stay, accessible bays and drop-off points. Details are as of 23 October 2026.
Where can I park near University Hospital Geelong?
Barwon Health’s transport and parking page for the hospital precinct lists these City of Greater Geelong spaces, and the City’s parking near hospitals page gives the same zones:
| Time limit | Where |
|---|---|
| 2 hours | Swanston Street (east side between Ryrie and Myers Streets); Bellerine Street (both sides between Ryrie and Myers Streets) |
| 3 hours | Myers Street (north side between Bellerine and Swanston Streets) |
| 4 hours | Myers Street (south side between Bellerine and Swanston Streets); Swanston Street (west side between Myers and Ryrie Streets) |
The City says it has these 2, 3 and 4 hour zones close to Geelong Hospital to help patients and families who need longer visits. One line on Barwon Health’s page says the time restrictions run from half an hour to two hours, which does not match the 3 and 4 hour zones it lists a few lines later. The parking is run by the City, so go by the signs on the street and the meter.

How do I pay, and what if my appointment runs long?
The meters here are City meters, and the City accepts Visa or Mastercard and pay-by-phone apps; see our central Geelong parking guide for the payment options and fees. Barwon Health says the City has a top-up mobile phone app for appointments that take longer than expected, but you can only top up to the maximum time limit for the area where you parked. The City also warns that you can be fined for staying beyond the maximum time even if you add money.
Barwon Health says parking officers regularly patrol these streets and that patients and visitors risk an infringement notice if a vehicle is parked illegally. Because you may not know how long you will be there, it suggests two steps:
- Ask a family member or friend to drive you, and arrange for them to pick you up when you are ready to leave.
- Ask a family member or friend to come with you so a vehicle can be moved if necessary.
The City says scheduled appointments can take longer than expected, so it suggests choosing a spot that gives you a reasonable amount of time to allow for delays.
What if I get a ticket during a medical emergency?
The City says that if you receive a parking ticket while at Geelong Hospital or St John of God Hospital, you should complete a Statutory Declaration giving details and evidence of your medical emergency and submit an appeal on the City’s online appeal page. Barwon Health’s page says the council may review an appeal on compassionate grounds with a statutory declaration about the exceptional circumstances.

Where are the accessible parking bays?
Barwon Health says patients with a Category 1 (Blue) Disabled Permit can park for double the allocated time they have paid for at any metered space, in addition to the designated disabled spaces. The precinct page lists the accessible spaces:
| Street | Where | Spaces |
|---|---|---|
| Myers Street | Outside the Old Gaol building | 1 |
| Myers Street | Outside the Maternity entrance; at the Maternity entrance | 2; 1 |
| Myers Street | Outside the Swanston Centre drop-off zone | 1 |
| Swanston Street | Outside the Old Gaol building | 2 |
| Swanston Street | Outside the Andrew Love Cancer Centre entrance | 12 |
| Bellerine Street | Main hospital entrance | 3 |
| Bellerine Street | Outside the hospital entrance | 2 |
| Bellerine Street | Near the pedestrian crossing (hospital side) | 2 |
| Bellerine Street | Outside the Annexe | 2 |
| Bellerine Street | Opposite Youang Surgery Centre; outside Youang Surgery Centre | 2; 1 |
| Bellerine Street | Opposite St Mary’s Terrace | 1 |
| Ryrie Street | Opposite the Children’s Emergency Department | 1 |
| Ryrie Street | Outside the BMI entrance, next to the Emergency Department drop-off zone | 1 |
The precinct page also lists one space outside Youang Surgery Centre on Ryrie Street, so check the posted signs for the exact bay. The Andrew Love Cancer Centre is on the corner of Ryrie and Swanston Streets, with access from Swanston Street, and Barwon Health’s cancer services page says limited parking for patients with a disability permit is at its main entrance.

Where do I get dropped off?
Barwon Health lists pick-up and drop-off zones at the main entrance on Bellerine Street, the Andrew Love Cancer Centre entrance on Swanston Street and the Swanston Centre entrance on Myers Street. Its taxi pick-up and drop-off points are the Bellerine Street main entrance, the Andrew Love Cancer Centre, Kardinia House, the Swanston Centre and the Youang Surgery Centre. You can book a taxi from the Geelong Taxi Network on 13 10 08, which Barwon Health says has 22 disabled taxis, and staff can help you call one on request.
Can I get there by bus or train?
The nearest bus stops to the hospital are on Ryrie Street and Little Ryrie Street, Barwon Health says, and the local bus companies are McHarry’s Buslines and CDC Victoria. For trains it points to V/Line and the Public Transport Victoria journey planner. Our Melbourne to Geelong train guide has the timetable pattern and fares.

What else is in the hospital precinct?
The precinct page gives these addresses:
| Location | Address |
|---|---|
| University Hospital Geelong | Bellerine Street (main entrance); Ryrie Street (emergency entrance) |
| Andrew Love Cancer Centre | 70 Swanston Street |
| Kardinia House | 59-89 Bellerine Street |
| Youang Surgery Centre | 56-58 Bellerine Street |
| The Annexe | 66 Bellerine Street |
| Argyle Centre | 73 Little Ryrie Street (corner of Argyle Street) |
Barwon Health says there is level entry at all the main entrance points and lift access within the hospital buildings, and that staff can show you where the lifts and accessible toilets are. It also says private short-term parking is in various areas close to the hospital, without giving the rates.
Does a veterans’ permit cover parking here?
Barwon Health’s cancer services page says the City adopted a parking permit system for people who have served Australia in active military service, and that the permit waives any fees for parking in central Geelong. The page links to the City’s permit information and says application forms are available online or at council customer service centres. The link on that page points to the City’s old website address, so look for the current form on the City’s parking page.
