Roads around the Australian War Memorial will be closed for the Remembrance Day service on Wednesday 11 November 2026 from approximately 8:00am to 1:00pm, and Transport Canberra will divert Route 54 in both directions over the same hours. The National Ceremony starts at 10:45am on the Parade Ground, and tickets are not required.

The Memorial’s own page says details on parking, road closures and shuttle bus services will be added closer to the date, so this guide uses the road closures notice from City Services ACT and the bus notice from Transport Canberra, both read on Friday 23 October 2026, and will be updated when the Memorial publishes more.

What time is the ceremony?

The Australian War Memorial’s 2026 program says the Remembrance Day National Ceremony will be held at 10:45am on the Parade Ground. At 11:00am, the Memorial says, Australians pause for one minute of silence.

  • Tickets are not required to attend the ceremony.
  • Public unreserved seating will be available on site.
  • Reserved seating is available for visitors with accessibility requirements, and the Memorial has a booking link on its program page.
  • The Memorial’s galleries will open to the public following the ceremony.
  • The Last Post Ceremony is held every day of the year at 4:30pm except Christmas Day. On 11 November it traditionally includes the reading of the eulogy for the Unknown Australian Soldier.

Which roads will be closed?

City Services ACT says temporary road closures and traffic delays will be in place on Wednesday 11 November from approximately 8:00am to 1:00pm. The closures are:

Road Closed section
Limestone Avenue From Treloar Crescent to Anzac Parade
Limestone Avenue From Anzac Parade to Euree Street
Fairbairn Avenue From Anzac Parade to Treloar Crescent
Fairbairn Avenue From Creswell Street to Anzac Parade
Anzac Parade From Currong Street to Limestone Avenue
Anzac Parade From Fairbairn Avenue to Blamey Crescent

You can read the City Services notice for the map it publishes. The notice says motorists should allow extra travel time and plan ahead.

I am driving to or from Canberra Airport. What should I do?

City Services advises road users travelling to and from Canberra Airport to use alternate routes to avoid delays, such as the Majura Parkway, or Hindmarsh Drive onto the Monaro Highway. If you are catching a flight that morning, leave extra time. Our Canberra Airport to City Rapid 3 guide has the bus timetable, although Transport Canberra’s notice for the day covers Route 54 only.

What happens to bus Route 54?

Transport Canberra says Route 54 will be diverted in both directions in Reid and Campbell on Wednesday 11 November from approximately 8:00am to 1:00pm. Four stops near the War Memorial will not be serviced, and each has an alternate stop:

Where do I park, and is there a shuttle?

The Australian War Memorial has not yet published parking or shuttle bus details for 11 November. Its program page, last updated on 16 October, says further information on parking, road closures and shuttle bus services will be added closer to the date. Until it does, we cannot say where to park or whether shuttle buses will run. Check the Memorial’s Remembrance Day program page before you leave.
