Darwin Turf Club’s Melbourne Cup Day is on Tuesday 3 November 2026. Gates open at 10am, general admission costs $15 for adults, and the club lists the Melbourne Cup itself at 1:30pm. Local race times have not been published yet. This guide covers tickets, lunch packages, what to wear, what you can bring, parking and children, from the club’s event page and website as checked on 26 October 2026.

What time do the gates open and when is the Melbourne Cup?

The club’s Melbourne Cup Day event page says gates open at 10am and the Melbourne Cup is at 1:30pm. All times here are Darwin time (ACST, UTC+9:30). The same page gives a first race at 2pm in its details box, but its text says the first local race has not been announced, and the times for local races 1 to 5 are not given, so treat the 2pm figure as unconfirmed.

The 10am opening is earlier than the club’s usual hours. Its FAQ page says gates open at 1pm on standard race days and at noon on feature race days, “unless otherwise specified”. Cup Day is specified.

How much is a ticket for Melbourne Cup Day?

Tickets are sold through Moshtix. The club’s FAQ recommends buying ahead, and says general admission tickets can also be bought at the Gate 2 ticket booth unless they have sold out. The event page lists these options:

Ticket Price What it includes
General admission Adult $15; concession $10; under 12 free The betting ring and the air-conditioned ground floor of The Grandstand, with several bars open and racing shown on Sky Racing and Sky2
The Grandstand Luncheon Members $205; non-members $220 Three-course alternate drop, five-hour beverage package from 12pm to 5pm, reserved seating at shared tables of 10, race book and entertainment. Room access 11:30am
Ted Bailey Grandstand Luncheon Members $105; non-members $120 Three-course alternate drop, reserved seating at tables of six, betting facilities and a cash bar. Room access 10am
Corporate Suites Ask the club Top level of The Grandstand, private balcony and bar, for groups of 30 or more. Call 8923 4222

Prices are as listed in October 2026. The event page calls the second general admission price “Senior/Student” in its details box and “Concession” in its text. The club’s phone number is (08) 8923 4222.

What should I wear to Melbourne Cup Day in Darwin?

The club’s dress standards page says guests in the general admission areas must be neatly dressed, and the club may refuse entry to anyone it considers inappropriately attired. Footwear and a shirt are required at all times. Members’ dress standards apply to the Ted Bailey Grandstand and the Sid Parker Verandah and Members Club House.

Accepted Not accepted
Neat casual attire; collared shirt for males; dress shorts, trousers, clean denim or cargo pants; dresses of all styles including strapless; clean enclosed shoes or open-toe dress sandals Shirts without a collar, T-shirts, singlets and tank tops; ripped clothing; sports shorts; boxer, Hawaiian-style or board shorts; bathers; tracksuit pants; rubber thongs; gumboots, slippers or ugg boots; bare feet

The practical point for a hot Darwin day is that rubber thongs and singlets are on the not-accepted list, so pack closed shoes or dress sandals and a collared shirt. The club says younger children must be accompanied by an adult and be suitably attired.

Can I bring food, drinks and chairs?

The club’s FAQ says it is a fully licensed venue and alcohol is not permitted to be brought in. You are welcome to bring your own chairs, a picnic lunch and sealed soft drinks or water. You may not bring open beverages, glass containers or bottles, metal or sharp cutlery, BBQs, picnic tables, or beach or market umbrellas. Plastic or wooden containers and cutlery are fine.

The club provides a limited number of outdoor tables, chairs and umbrellas in general admission areas on a first-come, first-served basis, and they cannot be reserved. Lunch is served from the Kiosk on standard race days, and the club’s dining page says there is a snack bar menu in the Ted Bailey Grandstand and a three-course lunch on feature race days. For a Ted Bailey table of six, email the club.

Where do I park, and how do I get there?

The club’s parking page says the main entrance, off Dick Ward Drive in Fannie Bay, has ample parking for members and non-members on normal and feature race days. It does not publish separate arrangements for Melbourne Cup Day. The event page says the racecourse is approximately a seven minute drive from the CBD.

Gate What the club says
Main entrance, Dick Ward Drive Parking for members and the public on normal and feature race days
Gate 1 General public and taxi drop-off, off Dick Ward Drive
Gate 2 Ticket booth and race books; the car park off Dick Ward Drive by this gate is for members with a pass only

The club’s centrefield car park, reached via Playford or Douglas Street, is listed only for bet365 Palmerston Sprint Day and Great Northern Darwin Cup Day, not for Melbourne Cup Day. The club does not list bus services for Cup Day, so check the Darwin Bus website before you rely on one. For a taxi or ride-share, the drop-off point is Gate 1.

Can I bring children?

Yes. The event page lists general admission as free for children under 12, and the club’s FAQ says children under 12 are welcome at all standard race meetings. Because it is a licensed venue, all minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, and children under 18 are not permitted to approach any beverage or gambling outlets. Children over 12 must dress to the members’ standard in the members’ area, and pay adult prices for any luncheon.

What else should I know on the day?

  • Race books are sold at the Gate 2 ticket booth and in some selected bars.
  • There is an ATM in the ground floor foyer of the Public Stand.
  • Smoking is allowed only in the designated areas, including the lawns (2 metres from the track fence) and the TAB Pavilion balcony.
  • Mobile phones must not be turned on in the mounting yard, the scales area or other areas designated by stewards while betting is taking place.
  • Lost property is kept for three months at Reception in the club’s Administration Office, (08) 8923 4222.
