| 3 to 4 hours | $27 |

All public parking areas have boom gates and ticket machines, and you must pay for your ticket before you leave the car park. Casual hourly ticket holders pay at the machines in or next to the lift lobbies on Level 1 or Level 2 before returning to the vehicle.
How do I pay?
- The pay and display machines do not accept notes. They take all coins except the 5-cent coin.
- The automatic payment stations accept notes up to $50 and all coins except the 5-cent coin.
- The exit gate machines accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards only, with a surcharge. Cash and American Express are not accepted there.
Where can I park for a short visit?
For short-term parking only, there is a two-hour pay and display zone near the Emergency Department on Level 2. Buy a ticket from a machine in that zone and display it on your dashboard.

Where are the drop-off and pick-up zones?
All the drop-off and pick-up zones have a strict time limit of 10 minutes, and parking longer may incur a fine. The zones are:
- Level 1, next to the Section E, F and G lift lobbies.
- Level 2, in front of the Emergency Department entrance.
- Level 2, outside the Section B/C lift lobby.
- Level 3, in front of the main entrance.
What about accessible parking?
The hospital has 50 disabled car parking spaces. Short-term disabled parking is free for up to two hours in the Level 2 pay and display zone near the Emergency Department, and it is available to all South Australian and interstate-issued Disability Parking Permit holders. South Australia does not recognise overseas disability parking permits. Allocated spaces for drop-off and pick-up are on Levels 1 and 2 near the lift lobbies, and long-term spaces are on Levels 1 and 2. Display your permit at all times.
Is there a cheaper rate for families and patients in treatment?
- Inpatient relatives can apply for a reduced-price weekly parking ticket at the RAH Newsagency. Provide the patient’s name, the UR number and your details. The ticket is valid for seven days and can be renewed at the newsagency before it expires. The newsagency is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 9:00am to 4:00pm.
- Patients having treatment in the 2E Radiotherapy, 3E Cancer Day, 7F Renal or 2B Hyperbaric outpatient units can use permit parking, and must display the permit on the dashboard. Permits do not guarantee a space.
- Green permits (7F Renal or 2B Hyperbaric): Green Permit Only spaces on Level 2 of the underground car park, best reached from the North Terrace entrance, and on Level 1 next to the Section F lift entrance.
- Blue permits (2E Radiotherapy or 3E Cancer Day): Blue Permit Only spaces on Level 1, best reached from the George Street entrance.

Can I get there by tram or train?
The tram line runs past the hospital, with a stop on North Terrace next to the main entrance, before the intersection of Port Road and West Terrace. The hospital says travel within the Free City Tram Zone from South Terrace to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre is free, and that all trams are wheelchair, scooter and assistance dog friendly. Our free buses and trams guide explains the zone.
By train, get off at Adelaide Railway Station. The hospital gives the walk as 15 minutes along North Terrace, on a footpath. You can also change to the free city tram directly in front of the station, ride two stops and arrive within 100 m of the hospital’s front entrance.

Are there other places to park nearby?
Street parking in the surrounding streets is metered Monday to Saturday afternoon, so check the signs. The hospital lists these public options close to the site:
- City West Car Park, 189-207 Hindley Street. You can book ahead through the Wilson Parking app or website.
- Adelaide Convention Centre: Riverbank Car Park, reached from Morphett Road via Festival Drive, and North Terrace Car Park, reached from North Terrace.
- Adelaide Ice Arena: enter via Kintore Street, then catch the free city tram to the hospital.
- Adelaide Entertainment Centre Park ‘n’ Ride, at the corner of Port Road and Adam Street, Hindmarsh. The hospital encourages motorists to park there and travel into the city by tram.
The City of Adelaide’s own car parks are covered in our UPark car park guide.
How do I reach the hospital by car, taxi, bike or motorcycle?
- From Port Road on the west, traffic lights let vehicles enter and exit, with a pedestrian crossing.
- From West Terrace at the North Terrace and Port Road intersection, one lane is for in-only traffic to the taxi and patient drop-off zone, and to Outpatients, Inpatients and Day Surgery.
- From North Terrace on the east, continue over the intersection to the traffic lights where vehicles enter and exit.
- Taxis: a rank is in front of the main entry on Level 3, and a free taxi booking phone service is at the enquiries desk in the main foyer.
- Bikes: free bike racks and end of trip facilities are below the terrace next to the SAHMRI building, and free public bicycle bays are on Levels 2 and 3.
- Motorcycles: spaces are on Levels 1 and 2 at the standard fees. The hospital says there are more than 150 pay-to-park motorcycle spaces.
- EV charging: six rapid charging bays are in the pay and display zone next to the Emergency Department entrance, with a two-hour limit, paid through the Chargefox app.

What if I get a parking fine?
All public parking areas are patrolled by authorised officers. An expiation notice gives you 28 days to pay or appeal, and after that you receive a reminder and additional fees apply. You then have 14 more days before the notice goes to the Fines Enforcement and Recovery Unit. Pay in person at the Cashiers Office on Level 3 between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, by phone on 8372 7502, or by post. Queries about parking, notices or appeals go to the Cashiers Office on 8222 7200.
Quick plan
