- ACMI said the pedestrian crossing at Swanston and Flinders Streets was blocked by construction
ACMI, the museum of screen culture at Fed Square, has free entry and is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with some ticketed events. It sits opposite Flinders Street Station within Melbourne’s Free Tram Zone, so most trains and trams reach it, and a car park at Fed Square charges $18 for the first hour on weekdays at the drive-up rate.
ACMI is on Flinders Street between Swanston Street and Russell Street. This guide combines ACMI’s visit page (last modified 16 September 2026), Fed Square’s car park page and Wilson Parking’s Federation Square Car Park page, all checked on 22 October 2026.

What are ACMI’s opening hours?
ACMI lists its museum as open daily from 10am to 5pm, with opening from 1pm to 5pm on ANZAC Day, 25 April, and closed on Christmas Day, 25 December. Other opening times it lists:
- ACMI Cafe + Bar (Level 1): Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4:30pm, with hours extended to fit cinema sessions.
- ACMI Shop: daily 11am to 5pm.
- School groups: by advance booking only, Monday to Friday 10am to 2:30pm.
- ACMI Cinemas: check the screening times on the ACMI site.
Which entrance should I use?
ACMI has two entrances: the top end of the Fed Square plaza, which is open until the end of the final event or session, and the Flinders Street entrance with the revolving door, open 10am to 5pm. There are lifts at every level of the building.
ACMI’s page also carries a construction notice: the pedestrian crossing at the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street was blocked, and ACMI recommended approaching from the Russell Street crossing or the Swanston Street crossing outside Flinders Street Station. The page was last modified on 16 September 2026, so check the signs on the day.

How do I get there by public transport?
ACMI says most of Melbourne’s trains and trams will take you there. Its location at Fed Square is opposite Flinders Street Station, within the Free Tram Zone. Our myki fares guide explains the Free Tram Zone rules, and public transport is half price until 1 January 2027 according to Transport Victoria.
For school groups arriving by bus, there is a drop-off point at the Russell Street Extension, a 200 metre walk along Flinders Street to ACMI. Bus parking is not available at Fed Square.

Where can I park, and how much does it cost?
ACMI says paid parking is available at the Fed Square car park, on the Russell Street Extension or via the second entrance off Batman Avenue, a 2-minute (200 metre) walk to ACMI. There is also a Wilson Parking at 172/192 Flinders Street, directly opposite ACMI’s Flinders Street entrance.
Fed Square’s car park page lists the rates below and refers parking questions to Wilson Parking, and Wilson’s own page lists the same products. A parking day begins at 4am:
| Rate | Cost | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Casual, Monday to Friday | $18 for 0 to 1 hour; $36 for 1 to 2 hours; $54 for 2 to 3 hours; $72 for 3+ hours | Parking day begins at 4am |
| Early bird, Monday to Friday | $22 | Drive up only; exit between 3pm and midnight. Wilson’s page says entry 6am to 10am; Fed Square’s says 4am to 10am |
| Night, Monday to Thursday | $15 online, $17 drive up | Entry after 4pm, exit before 4am |
| Night, Friday | $20 online, $22 drive up | Entry after 4pm, exit before 4am |
| Weekend | $22 online, $24 drive up | Enter after 4am, exit before 4am the next day |
| Public holidays | $26 online and drive up | Enter after 4am, exit before 4am the next day |
| Event rate | $26 | Applied on days with scheduled events in the CBD, arts precinct and sports precinct |
Fed Square says prices are subject to change during major events, and Wilson Parking lists dates when event rates apply, so check its page for the day you plan to visit. The early bird entry window differs between the two pages, so check the signs at the entry; Wilson Parking’s own page says 6am to 10am. Wilson says prepaying online does not provide a reserved or guaranteed space.

How tall can my vehicle be?
Wilson Parking lists three entries: Russell Street (Extension) with a 2.10 metre height limit, the open-air Russell Street extension with 2.40 metres, and Batman Avenue (at Tennis Centre) with 2.10 metres. Fed Square’s page gives 2.4 metres for vehicles entering from Russell Street Extension and 2.1 metres from Batman Avenue. Fed Square adds that accessible car parks are on each level, close to the lifts. If your vehicle is taller than the accessible car park allows, it asks you to call (03) 9655 1900 and says staff will arrange an alternative. For other help, Wilson Parking’s number is 1300 555 320.
What about bikes?
You can lock your bike to the purpose-built racks around the perimeter of Fed Square, but you need to bring your own lock. You cannot bring a bike into ACMI.
