The underground car park at Canterbury Hospital is paid, and the first 15 minutes are free; after that it costs $8.30 for up to an hour and tops out at $24.70 a day, according to the NSW Health parking site. Eligible patients and carers pay a lower concession rate, and two-hour street parking is available around the hospital. Three bus links run from Campsie, Belmore and Canterbury stations.

How much does parking at Canterbury Hospital cost?

The NSW Health “NSW Public Hospital Parking, Services and Directions” site lists these public rates for Canterbury Hospital. We read them on 7 November 2026; the site does not show a date for the table. The table is as listed; the car park signs show the rates on the day.

Time in the car park Public rate
0 to 15 minutes Free
15 minutes to 1 hour $8.30
1 to 2 hours $12.30
2 to 3 hours $16.60
3 to 4 hours $19.30
4 to 5 hours $22.20
5 hours or more $24.70
Maximum daily fee $24.70

Using the table, a 10-minute drop-off costs nothing, an appointment that runs 90 minutes costs $12.30, and a half-day stay of three and a half hours costs $19.30. Those are our readings of the published table, not a quote from the hospital.

Where is the car park and when is it open?

The NSW Health listing says the hospital’s car park is reached from Thorncraft Parade, and the Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) page says the hospital is on Thorncraft Parade, just off Canterbury Road. The car park is underground and has its own phone number, (02) 9153 2000. Its hours are:

Days Car park hours
Weekdays 7:00am to 9:30pm
Weekends 8:30am to 8:30pm

The listing does not say what happens to cars still inside after closing time. There is a pick-up and drop-off zone outside the main entrance for private vehicles and taxis, which SLHD says is meant for people visiting Outpatients.

Can I park on the street instead?

Yes. NSW Health says two-hour parking spaces are available in the streets around the hospital, and SLHD says street parking is available close by but some streets have time restrictions. Neither page names the streets The signs on the day decide, not our summary.

Two hours is shorter than many clinic visits, and the paid car park’s rate for 1 to 2 hours is $12.30. If you expect to be longer, or are not sure, the car park is the safer choice than risking a street fine. We have not found an official statement of what fines apply near the hospital, so we are not quoting one.

Who gets the concession rate, and how do I claim it?

NSW Health says reduced parking fees are available to eligible patients and carers at every NSW public hospital where fees apply. Its concession-only rates are free for 0 to 3 hours and $7.20 for between 3 and 24 hours, with a 3-day ticket at $14.40 and a 7-day ticket at $28.80. The listing names these groups as eligible:

  • patients and their carers who need treatment over a period of time
  • patients and carers attending more than twice a week, including carers of long-term patients who visit often
  • patients and carers facing financial hardship who do not fit the other categories
  • holders of an RMS-issued Mobility Parking Scheme permit
  • holders of a Gold Veterans Affairs Card, or a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card
  • ongoing cancer treatment patients, cardiac rehabilitation and health promotion class attendees, and daily dressing outpatients

To claim it, NSW Health says to go to the hospital’s administrative point before you exit the car park and present your parking ticket, photo identification and concession card, or ask for the concessional rate. SLHD’s page says the same in simpler words: take your concession card to reception to have the ticket validated. The discount does not apply to metered street parking or pre-paid parking.

Why do two official pages show different concession prices?

The SLHD page lists concession rates of free for 0 to 3 hours and “1 exit only $5.60”. The NSW Health site lists $7.20 for between 3 and 24 hours. Both agree that the first three hours are free. We cannot tell which figure is current for stays over three hours, and neither page shows when it was last updated.

What about accessible parking?

NSW Health says there are limited disabled parking spaces outside the main entrance, with more in the underground car park. SLHD says spaces are in the hospital grounds in the underground car park, which has a ramp close to the lifts, and in the area outside the front foyer. Charges apply in the underground car park. Lifts take you from the car park to all levels of the hospital. Both pages list the hospital’s accessibility guide (a PDF on the SLHD site) for fuller detail.

Which buses and trains go to Canterbury Hospital?

SLHD says the hospital is well served by public transport and lists three bus links. The three links start at Campsie, Belmore and Canterbury stations.

From Bus route How often (SLHD)
Campsie station B490 and B492 Every 15 minutes
Belmore station B415 Every 30 minutes
Canterbury station B487 Every 30 minutes

The frequencies come from the SLHD page and do not say which days or hours they cover. Use transportnsw.info or call 131 500 for the timetable on the day you travel. See our Bankstown Metro guide for the opening details.

Is there community transport?

SLHD says the Bankstown-Canterbury Community Transport Service is available for a small fee and lists the phone number 02 9772 4928. The Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital page from another health district gives 02 9791 9211 for what appears to be the same service. The pages do not list who is eligible.

What do the pages say about drop-off?

The Sydney Local Health District page says the pick-up and drop-off zone outside the main entrance can be used by private vehicles and taxis to drop off and pick up people visiting Outpatients. The NSW Health listing gives the hospital’s phone number as (02) 9787 0000. Neither page gives a space count for the underground car park. The Sydney Local Health District page also refers visitors to its Transport Access Guide for more detail on getting to the hospital, and the NSW Health listing links an accessibility guide for parking and transport.
