Wallsend Frights is free and runs from 4pm to 8pm on Saturday 31 October 2026 at Wallsend Park, in the Newcastle suburb of Wallsend (NSW). You need a free registration first: the event is listed on Sticky Tickets as a $0 ticket and the organiser’s page says the ticket registers you for the event.
This guide uses the organiser’s ticket listing and event page, the Visit Newcastle listing, and City of Newcastle’s road closure and parking pages, all read on 26 October 2026. It covers what the organisers have published, and says plainly where they have not published something yet.
Is Wallsend Frights free, and do I need a ticket?
It is free. The event is run by Curious Legends, an independent theatre and productions company, and its Wallsend Frights 2026 page calls it “another free community Halloween event”. Registration goes through Sticky Tickets, where the single ticket type is “Participant” and the price shown is $0 (free).
| Item | What the listing says |
|---|---|
| Date and time | Saturday 31 October 2026, 4:00pm to 8:00pm (AEDT) |
| Venue | Wallsend Park |
| Ticket | Participant ticket at $0 (free); the ticket registers you for the event |
| Organiser | Curious Legends |
| Visit Newcastle listing | Shows 31 October 2026 with the location as “Wallsend, 2287” with the street left as to be confirmed |
The Visit Newcastle page still shows the location as to be confirmed, while the Sticky Tickets page names Wallsend Park. If you are planning around the exact spot, treat the park name as the organiser’s and check the Curious Legends page again on Saturday morning.

Can I turn up without registering?
The pages we read do not say. The Curious Legends page tells visitors to register for this year’s event, and the Sticky Tickets listing calls the ticket a registration, but neither says whether people without one are admitted at the gate, or whether each child and adult needs their own. If you are bringing a group, register everyone in it before Saturday, then message the organiser through the “Ask the organiser” link on the ticket page if you have a question.
What is on at Wallsend Frights?
This year’s theme is “A Ghastly Haunting”. The Sticky Tickets listing names these parts of the evening:
- A spooky activity passbook
- Halloween-themed crafts
- Giant puppets
- Witche’s Den (spelt that way in the listing)
- Wheel of Misfortune
- The Boneyard
- Roving characters, and food and drinks from vendors and local businesses
The Curious Legends page adds quests, face painting and roving performers, and describes the line-up as “a revival of most of our old spooks” with more giant puppets. Costumes are encouraged: the listing says “dress to distress”, and the organiser links a Costume Thrift Guide on Facebook for ideas. There is also a pre-event colouring-in competition, and the organiser asks people to watch its social media for event updates.

What is Bat Quest?
Bat Quest is a scavenger hunt in the Wallsend town centre. The organiser says it runs all day on 31 October, before the evening event, and that it is separate from the park program. The pages we read do not say where the hunt starts, whether it needs registration or whether it is free, so look at the Curious Legends page or its Facebook event for those details before you set out.
What should I bring?
The Curious Legends page says the event is hosted in the park and asks you to bring a picnic rug to sit on. Food and drinks can be bought from vendors and local businesses. It says nothing about bag rules, dogs, or what happens if it rains, so bring what you would take to any evening in a park and keep an eye on the organiser’s social media for a weather call.

Where do I park, and are there buses?
The organiser has not published parking or public transport advice for Wallsend Frights 2026, and the Transport for NSW events list did not include the event when we checked. That leaves two things we can source:
- Council parking rules apply. City of Newcastle says hourly rates in its 1P, 2P, 4P and 8P paid areas are $5.70 an hour, Monday to Sunday, and the 8P daily rate is $12. Its page does not say which Wallsend streets are paid, so read the signs where you park.
- Use the trip planner. Wallsend is reached by Newcastle bus services; put “Wallsend Park” into the Transport for NSW trip planner for the services running on Saturday evening.
The council also lists road works in Wallsend. Under its Longworth Avenue entry, which it dates from 21 February 2025 to late 2026 for the Western Corridor Road Upgrade, there is a full road closure at John Street between Longworth Avenue and Lumsden Lane, and a northbound closure at Longworth Avenue between Cowper Street and Newcastle Road. The stop/slow controls it lists on Saturdays are 8am to 1pm, with a 24/7 shoulder closure and long-term signage. The council says timings and conditions can change, so check Live Traffic NSW before you drive.

Who is behind Wallsend Frights?
The Curious Legends page says the event was supported by City of Newcastle’s Special Business Rates (SBR) program and WOW Wallsend, and that Create NSW supports it through Curious Legends’ 2026 Annual Program Funding. The page also invites people to fill out a volunteer application form if they want to help run the event. Questions go to the organiser: the Sticky Tickets page has an “Ask the organiser” link, and the organiser’s ticketing email is tickets@curiouslegends.com.au.
How do I keep up with changes?
The Sticky Tickets listing asks people to register and then click “going” on the organiser’s Facebook event, so that you do not miss any event notifications, and to watch the organiser’s socials for updates. The same listing mentions a pre-event colouring-in competition. Because the street address, parking, bus advice and wet-weather plan had not been published when we checked, check the Facebook event and the Curious Legends page before you leave. The Visit Newcastle listing for Wallsend Frights 2026 still showed the location as to be confirmed in Wallsend, 2287, so do not rely on it for directions.
The Curious Legends page says this year’s event brings back most of the old attractions, including more giant puppets and roving performers, and that the organiser also runs a Costume Thrift Guide on Facebook. If you want to help on the night, the page links a volunteer application form. For ticket questions, use the “Ask the organiser” link on the Sticky Tickets page or email tickets@curiouslegends.com.au.
Is there anything else on in Newcastle that night?
City of Newcastle’s road closure page says Devonshire Street, Newcastle West, between King Street and Hunter Street, is closed to vehicles from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday 31 October for Halloween at Bernie’s Bar. That closure is across town from Wallsend, but it matters if you are driving through the west end of the city centre on the way home.
