Old Pacific Highway at Pimpama will be closed between Pimpama Train Station and Nexus Drive from 7pm on Friday 23 October until 6am on Monday 26 October 2026, so the City of Gold Coast can continue building traffic signals at the Mebbin Street intersection. The detour runs via Bedford Road, Yawalpah Road and Nexus Drive.

This brief uses the City’s project page and weekend closure fact sheet, the City’s road closure alert and Translink’s stop closure notice, all checked on 19 October 2026. The closure depends on weather and construction conditions, so check the City’s page before you travel.

What exactly is closed this weekend?

The City’s project page says Old Pacific Highway between Pimpama Train Station and Nexus Drive will be closed from 7pm Friday 23 October to 6am Monday 26 October. The City’s weekend closure fact sheet gives the same times and says the aim is to reopen Mebbin Street as soon as possible. The City’s separate road closure alert lists the same full closure on Old Pacific Highway and Mebbin Street, but gives 6:30pm on Friday and 6:30am on Monday. If you are driving near the closure around those times, allow for the wider window.

Which way do I drive instead?

The City’s detour is via Bedford Road, Yawalpah Road and Nexus Drive, and the City publishes a detour map for the weekend. The fact sheet says the detour is available subject to weather and construction conditions. The City also asks drivers to reduce speed, take extra care when workers are in the area and follow the altered speed limits.

Is Mebbin Street still closed?

Yes. The City says Mebbin Street has been closed since 7pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026 and will stay closed until early December 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting. The detour for Mebbin Street is via Gainsborough Drive, Yawalpah Road and Old Pacific Highway. The City’s pages do not describe a different Mebbin Street detour for that weekend, so use the weekend detour map.

What happens to the bus?

Translink’s notice says that from 7pm Friday 23 to 6am Monday 26 October, some stops on Nexus Drive will be closed due to road works. If you travel on route 722, use the alternative stops on Yawalpah Road instead. The notice, last reviewed on 9 October 2026, lists these:

Stop Status
Nexus Dr at Home Focus Shopping Mall, Pimpama (stop IDs 321950 and 321951) Closed
Yawalpah Rd at Salzburg Rd hail ‘n’ ride (stop ID 316642), route 722 towards Pimpama Open, about 250 metres away (4 minutes)
Yawalpah Rd at Salzburg Rd hail ‘n’ ride (stop ID 316641), route 722 towards Coomera Open, about 210 metres away (3 minutes)

Check Translink for any update before you travel, because the stop notice is separate from the City’s road closure information.

Is the footpath affected?

The City’s project page says the pedestrian pathway between Salzburg Road and Old Pacific Highway is temporarily closed from September to November 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting, for stormwater, lighting and pathway upgrades, with a signed pedestrian detour in place.

Why is the City doing this?

The City says the Mebbin Street and Old Pacific Highway intersection is congested at peak times, with more delays expected as Pimpama grows. The $6.5 million project is installing traffic signals with signalised pedestrian crossings, a new left-turn slip lane from Mebbin Street, a new northbound left-turn lane on Old Pacific Highway, and drainage, lighting and path upgrades. The City gives August 2026 to March 2027 as the project schedule. For the rest of the City’s road works, see our guide to City of Gold Coast road projects running into 2027.

Who do I contact?

The City’s project manager line is 1300 465 326, and the project email is on the City’s page. The City says it will keep the community informed as work progresses.
