The City of Gold Coast’s own list of road projects shows work running into 2027 in Pimpama, Southport, Broadbeach, Coolangatta, Surfers Paradise and across the road network. The City lists two closures on its Mebbin Street project in Pimpama: Mebbin Street itself, shut from 7pm Tuesday 6 October until early December 2026, and a weekend closure of Old Pacific Highway from 7pm Friday 23 October to 6am Monday 26 October.
This guide summarises the City’s Roads and transport projects list as it stood on 19 October 2026. The City publishes no single capital works table for the 2026-27 year on those pages, so this is a reading of the individual project pages, not the City’s budget. Dates are the City’s, and the City says many depend on weather. The list changes often, so confirm a street on the project page or the City’s road closures page before you drive.

What is the annual road rehabilitation program?
The City’s annual road rehabilitation program runs from August 2026 to June 2027. The page says the City upgraded 34 roads in the last financial year, and describes the work as pavement design and rehabilitation, kerb and channel repairs, gully grate replacement, line marking and traffic signal loop reinstatement, tree removal and root barrier protection, and minor safety improvements.
The City says day works (6am to 6pm) and night works (6pm to 6am) are done Sunday to Friday, weather permitting. It says some partial road closures will be needed, that there will be no full road closures, and that access for residents and motorists will be maintained. Access to car parks and park facilities may be restricted at times. Its 2026-27 program lists roads in dozens of suburbs, from Advancetown and Alberton to Yatala, so search the page for your street. Names on the list include Arundel Drive, Benowa Road in Ashmore, Racecourse Drive in Bundall, First Avenue in Burleigh Heads, Cypress Avenue in Surfers Paradise and Main Beach Parade in Main Beach.

What is being built in Surfers Paradise?
The City’s page on the Surfers Paradise Coach Interchange says a new coach interchange is being built next to Cypress Gardens Carpark. It replaces the Surfers Paradise Transit Centre, which closed in late 2025 to make way for the new Gold Coast Civic and Music Hall. The interchange will have a 48-metre all-weather shelter with three kerbside bus bays, seating, drinking fountains and accessible public toilets. The City gives January to November 2026 as the schedule and says there will be occasional lane closures on Cypress Avenue. Our guide to the Cypress Avenue car park covers parking next to the site.
What is changing on Hedges Avenue, Mermaid Beach?
The City’s Hedges Avenue upgrade page describes a $7 million project to make the street a low-speed, cycle-priority street with local vehicle access only. The works include closing the southern end of Hedges Avenue to through traffic, traffic calming, coloured pavement, footpath and kerb work, new pavement and a new water main. The page says about 4,250 vehicles use the road each day, most of them through traffic. It says the existing 30 km/h limit stays and that a 10 km/h environment applies between Seashell Avenue and Arthur Street. Access to Hedges Avenue will not be available from Albatross Avenue, Seashell Avenue or Venice Street, and left turns from Venice Street onto Hedges Avenue will not be allowed. The page that this guide read gives no start date, so check it before you plan a trip through Mermaid Beach.

Which projects are still being planned or are later?
- Burleigh Heads and Tallebudgera, Old Coach Road Stage 2: the City is planning further upgrades, including investigating a connection to the Pacific Motorway (M1) at Exit 87. It says that if the idea proves feasible, community consultation comes before design and construction.
- Currumbin North shared path: the City is investigating a wider path along Duringan Street, and gives 2029 as the schedule.
- Springbrook Road new path: stages 1 and 2 are complete and investigations for stage 3, the Purling Brook crossing, are under way.
- Burleigh Heads, Koala Park transport management study: the City assessed three options after a 2021 petition, and its page says modelling predicts less traffic through Koala Park once the M1 upgrade and Light Rail Stage 3 are finished.
- Bus stop disability access upgrade: an ongoing program with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Translink) to bring bus stop boarding points up to the disability standards for public transport.
- Northern Gold Coast Bus Improvement Initiative: route and timetable changes for routes 720, 721, 722, 724, 732 and 733 around Pimpama station, trialled until July 2027 according to the City’s page.

Which listed projects have dates that have already passed?
Several pages still show schedules that ended before October 2026, and this guide does not treat them as current. They include Coolangatta’s Rutledge Street retaining wall (March to August 2026), Tweed Street (October 2025 to April 2026), the Beattie Road intersections in Coomera (January to July 2026), Nerang’s Pappas Way and Spencer Road intersection (May to June 2026) and Yatala’s Martens Street guardrail (March to April 2026). The Yawalpah Road upgrade in Pimpama, a $58 million project, lists 2023 to 2026, and the City’s page does not say whether it has finished. Use QLDTraffic or the City’s closures page to see whether any of these still affect a drive.
Where do I check for live closures?
- The City’s road closures page, which the City says covers current Gold Coast road closures.
- QLDTraffic for State roads such as the Pacific Motorway; our guide to long-running M1 works covers those.
- Each project page on the City’s site, which lists detour maps and contact details where they exist.
