There is no general public parking at GMHBA Stadium (Kardinia Park) on event days, according to the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust, so the practical ways in are the train to South Geelong Station, 450 metres from the stadium, a bus along Moorabool Street, or a walk from the Geelong CBD. This guide covers the stadium’s own getting-here advice, the road closure around Moorabool Street, accessible parking and the events listed in the next two months. Details are as of 21 October 2026.

Can I park at GMHBA Stadium on an event day?

Not as a general visitor. The event pages for the two AFLW matches this month say that there is no general public parking available for events. Australian Disability Parking (ADP) permit holders have access to limited parking at Gate B6. The stadium’s accessibility page says that zone is entered via Latrobe Terrace, is first in, and requires you to display your accessible parking sticker. Overflow accessible parking is in the C7 zone, entered via Park Crescent, which it describes as an unsealed surface with informal bays.

The event pages link to the City of Greater Geelong’s parking options in central Geelong, which says there are more than 4,700 off-street and 5,400 on-street car parks in the central area. The stadium’s Getting here page says the ground can be reached on foot from the Geelong CBD.

What about parking on days without a major event?

On non-major event days the Getting here page says free parking is available throughout the Kardinia Park precinct. Accessible bays are along Moorabool Street in front of Sports House (limited spaces), in the A3 car park in front of the Premiership Stand, and along Park Crescent in front of Kardinia Aquatic Centre. The accessibility page also lists the E9 car park behind the Barwon Region Cricket Centre, entered from the north-bound lane of Moorabool Street only. A drop-off zone is near the Geelong Football Umpire League building. For major event days the page tells you to read the event-specific information.

What is the driving route to the stadium?

The Getting here page describes Geelong as 75 kilometres from Melbourne, reached via the Westgate Bridge and the Princes Freeway, which becomes Latrobe Terrace in Geelong with no turns required. At the traffic lights next to the 7-Eleven, turn left onto Kilgour Street and make an immediate right, which takes you to the main entry on Kilgour Street. On event days the stadium points to its event pages and the City’s parking page instead of offering public parking at the ground.

How do I get there by train?

Geelong is approximately one hour from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station, the stadium says, with Geelong Railway Station 1.8 kilometres to the north of the stadium and South Geelong Station 450 metres to the east. South Geelong is on the Geelong line, after Geelong and before Marshall and Waurn Ponds in V/Line’s timetable effective 23 August 2026. The stadium says V/Line may provide additional services on major event days and asks you to check the V/Line and Public Transport Victoria websites. Our Melbourne to Geelong train guide has the timetable pattern and fares.

The venue FAQ says public transport is free in Victoria until 31 May and that fares are halved for the remainder of 2026. The free period has ended. Transport Victoria says public transport is half price for everyone from 1 June 2026 until 1 January 2027, including regional trains, and the fare is worked out automatically when you tap on. Check the current fare on the V/Line or Transport Victoria sites before you travel.

How do I get there by bus?

Public bus stops are on Moorabool Street, directly opposite Gate 5 (Bernie Smith, the river end) and Gate 1 (Polly Farmer, the city end). The stadium says bus routes can change with road closures along Moorabool Street for specific major events, and it points to Public Transport Victoria, CDC Victoria and McHarry’s Buslines Geelong for routes and stops.

Which roads close around the stadium?

The venue FAQ says roads around GMHBA Stadium and the precinct have speed reductions for the entire event day. A section of Moorabool Street is closed 60 minutes before the event and for 30 minutes after it. The FAQ does not name the exact blocks, so follow the signs on the day.

Where is the taxi rank and where do ride-share cars stop?

On major event days a taxi rank is on Verner Street, which the stadium says is outside the Moorabool Street closure. Taxis can be booked at any time on 13 10 08. For patrons with accessibility needs, Ubers and taxis can collect at Gate A2.

What access and support does the stadium offer?

The venue FAQ and accessibility page list several services. Accessible and companion seating is on Level A of the Reg Hickey, Premiership, Players, Brownlow and Joel Selwood stands, reached through the gates and lifts the stadium names for each stand. Certified guide, hearing, assistance and trainee support animals are welcome, and the nearest relief area is on the grass in Kardinia Park. Hearing loops are in several function rooms and the Geelong Sports Museum. There is a Parents’ Room on Level A of the Joel Selwood Stand near Bay A37, a multi-faith room on Level 1 of the same stand, and a sensory room in the Deakin Cats Community Centre inside Gate 8. The stadium has two Changing Places facilities, in Aisle 36 of the Level A Brownlow Stand and on the ground level of the Joel Selwood Stand, which need an MLAK key. First aid stations are at the back of the Players Stand and the Joel Selwood Stand, both at ground level.

If you have a pacemaker and do not want to be wanded by security, the FAQ says to bring a medical certificate and photo identification to your entry gate, and a pat-down takes the place of wanding. All bags are still checked. The prohibited items are listed in the Conditions of Entry.

What else should I know before I go?

  • Tickets: download them to your mobile wallet before you arrive, the stadium says, to avoid delays. Event-day tickets can be bought at Gate 1 (Polly Farmer), Gate 5 (Bernie Smith) and Gate 13 (Bob Davis).
  • Cashless: GMHBA Stadium is a cashless venue.
  • Prams: they are not permitted at AFL and BBL events unless they are strollers that can be stored under your seat. • Accessible entry: Gate 1 and Gate 13 have dedicated accessible lanes, and Gates 5 and 8 have a combined accessible and express lane.
  • Mobility buggies: free, no booking, from 2 hours before the match from Entry C (Park Crescent) to the edge of the A3 car park, and from 1 hour before from Entry A (Kilgour Street) to the Geelong Umpire Rooms. They may not run at all events.
