On Wednesday 21 October the Geelong Racing Club runs free shuttle buses to the Geelong Cup from the Geelong Bus Interchange in Moorabool Street and from South Geelong Station, and the City of Greater Geelong says Breakwater Road and Tanner Street will be closed from about 3pm to 7pm. Racing is at the club’s course at 99 Breakwater Road, Breakwater, and the day runs from 11am to 7:30pm.

Which roads are closed?

The City of Greater Geelong event page lists two closures, both between about 3:00pm and 7:00pm on Wednesday 21 October 2026:

Road Closed between
Breakwater Road Fowler Street, Barwon Terrace and Brennan Street
Tanner Street Breakwater Road and Fellmongers Road

The City says to expect more traffic and noise around the area during the event, and that emergency access will be maintained throughout.

How do the free buses work?

The Geelong Racing Club’s plan-your-day page gives these times for the free shuttle buses:

Direction From When
To the track Geelong Bus Interchange (Moorabool Street) and South Geelong Station Every 30 minutes, 11:30am to 1:30pm
Heading home The racecourse Every 30 minutes, 6:00pm to 7:30pm

The club does not say which pick-up point the return buses go to, or which roads they use while Breakwater Road and Tanner Street are closed, so follow the signs and staff on the day.

Can I take the train?

The club says the closest train station is South Geelong, which is also one of the two shuttle pick-up points. South Geelong is on the Geelong line from Southern Cross, and the V/Line timetable effective 23 August 2026 lists it after Geelong on the way to Marshall and Waurn Ponds. Our Melbourne to Geelong train guide has the journey times and fares.

Where do I park or get dropped off?

The Geelong Racing Club says there is free on-site parking, and that the public can park in the signed paddock car park across the road, along Breakwater Road opposite the racecourse. Traffic management will be on site and the club says to follow the signs. It also recommends carpooling or public transport.

  • Drop-off: use the designated zones on Fowler Street and Cosgrove Street, and watch for signs on the day.
  • Accessible parking: the club says several sites are available but cannot be reserved, so it recommends coming early.
  • Members: they are invited to park on the grounds near the main gate, entered from Fowler Street and Cosgrove Street, first come first served. When it is full, overflow car parks are on Breakwater Road.

Breakwater Road is closed between about 3pm and 7pm, which covers the late afternoon, so check the City’s closure notice when you plan how you will leave.

What does it cost and what should I bring?

The City’s page lists general admission at $25 for adults, $20 for concession card holders and free for children under 17, and a group deal of 10 tickets for $125 (buy 5, get 5 free). The Racing Club’s own Geelong Cup page says general admission on the gate is $30 standard and $25 concession, with early bird tickets from $20. The two pages differ, so check the club’s page before you go. Gates are expected to open at 11am, and the club says to check its website closer to the day.

Bring your QR code ticket or wristband, and your membership, owners or concession card if it applies. The club says cabanas, umbrellas (after entry) and BYO alcohol are not permitted. General admission tickets are emailed as QR codes, to be shown at the main gate. For questions on the day the City lists the Geelong Racing Club on 03 5229 4414.
