Parking at the Gosford Park&Ride car park on Showground Road is free for up to 18 hours if you complete a public transport trip with an accepted Opal card, or with a credit or debit card registered through a Transport Connect account, as of October 2026. If you park there without travelling, Transport for NSW lists a $20 flat rate on weekdays, a $10 flat night rate, and $0 on weekends and public holidays.
The car park is listed on Transport for NSW’s Park&Ride page and is the only one in that list that comes up for the Central Coast: when we searched the official list by suburb or station on Monday 19 October 2026, Gosford returned one result, and searches for Woy Woy, Wyong and Tuggerah returned none. The official page shows live availability, and it showed 49 spaces free when we looked.

How much does Gosford Park&Ride cost?
The Transport for NSW Park&Ride page sets out the rates for Gosford separately from the other car parks. The table below is what it lists for people who are not using public transport when they park.
| When | Gosford rate |
|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | $20 flat rate |
| Monday to Friday, enter and exit between 5pm and 5am | $10 flat night rate |
| Saturday, Sunday and public holidays | $0, enter and exit any time through the day |
If you do complete a public transport trip, the commuter rules apply instead. The page says parking is free for up to 18 hours, and that if you go past 18 hours, parking rates apply in 24 hour increments. For that overstay it lists $30 on Monday to Friday and $10 on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. It does not say how those figures fit with the Gosford rates above, so check the signs at the car park if you expect to stay longer than 18 hours.
Any fee you owe is charged either at the exit gate or, if you use Transport Connect, to the credit or debit card on your account.
How do I get the free parking?
The official page gives three conditions. You must park in a dedicated Park&Ride car park, complete a trip on public transport by tapping on and tapping off with the same accepted card, and leave the car park within 18 hours of entering. The trip can be on a metro, train, bus, ferry or light rail service where Opal or a contactless card is accepted. Private ferry services and On Demand bus services do not count, and you must tap off at a different location from where you tapped on.
What you do next depends on the card you travel with:
- Opal card: complete your trip, then tap out on the reader as you exit the car park.
- Credit or debit card: use the physical card for a public transport trip first, so it is validated. Then register for a Transport Connect account, choose Park&Ride under My services, and add the card and your vehicle’s number plate. After that you do not need to tap out when you leave.
- Opal card linked to Transport Connect: the same no-tap-out exit applies once you have linked the card and your number plate.

Which trips and cards do not qualify?
Transport for NSW lists several cases where the car park will charge you even though you travelled:
- Opal single trip tickets and School Opal cards are not accepted.
- A tap on reversal, where a card is tapped on and tapped off at the same location within 30 minutes without completing a trip, cannot be used to validate free parking.
- Where the only transaction is a Manly Ferry trip, the trip is not recognised unless the Opal card is registered through Transport Connect.
- If you use the car park more than once and want free parking each time, you must allow at least two hours between tap outs at the exit.
- If you exit within 20 minutes of entering, you do not need to validate with a card and no fee applies.
These conditions apply to all Park&Ride car parks at all times, according to the page. The terms and conditions add that tapping on and off at the same place does not make an eligible trip, and that a separate trip is needed for each period of free parking.
What do I need to register with Transport Connect?
Registering is a one-off step that covers every Park&Ride car park, and it lets the gate open on number plate recognition. The Transport Connect Park&Ride page says you need your vehicle’s number plate, the card you use to tap on and tap off, and a payment card that will be charged if you incur parking fees. When you activate the service, Transport for NSW applies a $1 pre-authorisation to check the payment card. According to the terms, no money is taken unless you are liable for parking fees.

The limits to know about:
- Up to 10 tap on methods can be linked to one account. These can be debit or credit cards and Opal cards. A phone, watch or tablet linked to a card counts as that card.
- Up to four vehicles can be linked to one account.
- Adult, Child/Youth, Gold Senior/Pensioner, Concession, Employee and free travel Opal cards can be linked. Opal single trip tickets and School Opal cards cannot.
- If a vehicle is shared, each driver needs their own Transport Connect account with the number plate linked. The first account to link the vehicle becomes the primary account and is billed for any parking fees, whoever was driving.
- For a hire car or courtesy car, link the number plate before you park and remove it when you return the vehicle.
What if I am charged and I think I qualified?
Opal travel activity can take up to 48 hours to register on the Park&Ride system in rare cases, so Transport for NSW asks you to wait at least 48 hours after you leave the car park before you request a refund. With a linked Transport Connect account, you select the transaction in your Activity list, add the details asked for and lodge a review. If you use an Opal card that is not linked, you complete the refund form or call the operator on 1300 117 901. The page says refund applications take about 20 business days, and card issuer fees are not refunded.
Can I use it on an event day?
Yes, if you hold an event ticket that includes public transport travel. If you do not use Transport Connect, the page says to use the intercom at the exit gate and show your event ticket to the operator, who can open the gate manually. If you use Transport Connect, the boom gate opens automatically, and you then attach a photo of your event ticket to the parking transaction under My activity in your account.

What else should I know about the Gosford car park?
The Gosford listing on the official page gives the address as Showground Road, Gosford, with vehicle access via Showground Road. It lists 18 wheelchair accessible bays and operating hours of 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The general “Car park operating hours” section further down the page has no hours published yet, so rely on the Gosford listing and the signs at the entrance.
All Park&Ride car parks record the time of entry and exit with number plate recognition. If you are not registered with Transport Connect and do not qualify for free parking, you pay at the exit gate by credit or debit card. Cash and Opal cards are not accepted for parking.
