The Ray White Semaphore Street Fair is on Sunday 29 November 2026 from 10am to 5pm, with free entry. Semaphore Road is closed to traffic from 6:30am to 6:30pm between the Esplanade and Swan Terrace, so a trip by car needs a plan: park in the foreshore car parks or on a side street away from the closure, or travel by public transport, taxi, bike or on foot.

This guide follows the fair’s own pages: the home page, traffic management, travel options and frequently asked questions, all read on Monday 26 October 2026. South Australia is on daylight saving time, so every time below is Adelaide time.

What is the Semaphore Street Fair, and who runs it?

The fair is an annual event organised by the Semaphore Mainstreet Association, with ongoing support from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and local businesses. It is held on the last Sunday in November. The organisers say it attracts around 50,000 visitors to Semaphore Road in one day, and describe it as the largest one-day event in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

The fair began in 1994 as an event at the end of a bike race in Semaphore, with street traders spilling onto the footpath to greet the racegoers. Volunteers ran it for seven years, from 1994 to 2000. It was re-established in 2005 with the support of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and a part-time event manager, and it has been held every year since.

Stallholder and food vendor applications for 2026 are closed, so the line-up of stalls is set. The fair’s site describes the stalls as a mix of handmade products and Christmas presents, with plenty of free activities. It does not publish a stall list yet.

Which roads are closed on Sunday 29 November?

The fair’s traffic management page lists these closures, in place from 6:30am to 6:30pm on Sunday 29 November 2026. The page also says speed restrictions will apply on the Esplanade and Military Road at their intersections with Semaphore Road.

Road What is closed Hours
Semaphore Road (western section) Closed at the Esplanade and Military Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Semaphore Road (eastern section) Closed at Military Road and Swan Terrace 6:30am to 6:30pm
Institute Lane Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Ward Street Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Turton Street Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Water Street Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Custom Lane Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Jagoe Street Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm
Penny Street Closed at Semaphore Road 6:30am to 6:30pm

What detours are in place?

The fair’s traffic page says detours run along Swan Terrace and Woolnough Road in the east, and along Hart Street, Hall Street and South Terrace in the west. If you are crossing Semaphore on Sunday for any other reason, use those roads and allow extra time. The page does not give a map or an estimated delay.

The closure runs from 6:30am, well before the 10am start, and lasts until 6:30pm, more than an hour after the fair finishes at 5pm. The fair’s pages do not say how residents or businesses on the closed section get access, so contact the organisers through the contact page if you need to know.

Where can I park near the Semaphore Street Fair?

The fair’s FAQ says parking is available in the foreshore car parks. It adds that there is limited parking in the side streets and that the council will be out giving fines for illegally parked cars. The FAQ does not give the number of spaces, any charge or time limit, or which car park fills first, so we cannot tell you those. Check the signs when you arrive, and read them again if you leave the car for the whole day.

Driving time from the city is given on the travel options page: Semaphore is 25 minutes’ drive west of Adelaide, or 28 minutes’ drive from Elizabeth in the north. Those are the organisers’ figures for a normal drive and do not account for the extra traffic on fair day.

Can I get to Semaphore by bus or train?

The fair’s travel options page sends visitors to Adelaide Metro and asks them to use the Journey Planner to find the best bus, or bus and train, route from where they live. It does not list a route number or a stop. We have not found an Adelaide Metro notice for the 2026 fair, so we cannot say whether any services are added or diverted around the Semaphore Road closure. Check the Adelaide Metro website in the days before the fair for service changes.

If you are new to Adelaide Metro tickets, our fares and Tap and Pay guide explains how to pay, and our guide to catching a bus, train or tram covers the basics of boarding.

Where are the taxi stand and the wheelchair drop-off?

The travel options page gives these details:

Need Where or who
Taxi stand At the Palais Hotel on the Esplanade, on the foreshore at the beach end of the fair
Wheelchair drop-off The front driveway of the Palais Hotel
Suburban Taxis 13 10 08
Yellow Cabs Adelaide 13 22 27
Adelaide Independent Taxis 13 22 11
Rideshare The page says catching an Uber is also an option

Is the fair still on if it rains or is very hot?

Yes. The FAQ calls it an all-weather event and says it goes ahead “even if it is raining or 45C”. The same page notes that late November can be too hot for a dog, and says the fair is pet-friendly although the organisers do not encourage bringing pets, because of the crowd and the noise.

One thing that does depend on the weather is the Semaphore miniature steam train. The fair’s attractions page says the train does not run when the forecast temperature is over 33C. It lists the train as operating every Sunday and public holiday from October to April, so Sunday 29 November falls inside that period, but the page does not say whether it runs on fair day.

Is the fair accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters?

The FAQ says Semaphore Road is on a slight incline until you are close to the foreshore but is mostly flat, with sunny and shady areas. It reports that feedback received by the organisers is that the fair is wheelchair and mobility-scooter friendly. For drop-off, use the Palais Hotel driveway described above. The FAQ also notes that several banks have ATMs along Semaphore Road.

What is the Yellow Brick Road for children?

The Yellow Brick Road is a free activity for children. The fair’s page says there are free goodies for primary school-aged children at 15 participating shops and stalls for the first 400 children. The journey starts outside Zambrero Semaphore at 32 Semaphore Road, and each participating shop or stall has a Yellow Brick Road sign. The page does not say what the goodies are.

What else is there to do in Semaphore that day?

The fair’s attractions page describes Semaphore as a historic seaside town with two kilometres of public foreshore. It lists mini-golf, a water slide, a vintage carousel, a Ferris wheel, beachside kiosks and a bike track. That page describes the town in general and does not say which of these will be open on 29 November. The page says the Semaphore Summer Carnival is open every day and night during the summer school holidays, so check the dates before assuming it is running.

From the end of the jetty, the same page says you can see the Timeball Tower, the oldest working carousel in the southern hemisphere, the 1920s Palais bathing pavilion (now the Semaphore Palais hotel) and the Ozone Theatre building. It also says Largs Bay is a 10-minute walk along the coastal pathway. Semaphore Road has shops, cafes and pubs, so the fair and the ordinary shopping street share the same stretch.

Is smoking allowed, and can I busk?

The FAQ says smoking is discouraged at the fair and is explicitly prohibited in areas where food is served. It says there are busking and performance opportunities inside the fair precinct, but they must be negotiated with the Street Fair Manager, and a performer needs a current busking permit issued by a South Australian council.

Where can I stay the night?

The fair’s pages point to Semaphore SA’s accommodation listings. The attractions page says the area has bed and breakfasts, apartments, a caravan park, heritage pub-style hotel accommodation, student accommodation and a converted church. Staying locally also means you can walk to the fair, which avoids the parking question.

What has not been confirmed for 2026?

  • The main stage line-up and times. The fair’s website did not list them on Monday 26 October 2026.
  • The 2026 stall map. The site’s map page shows a Google Earth map for stallholder locations, toilets and the main stage, which we could not read as text, so we have not described the layout.
  • Extra Adelaide Metro services or diversions. The fair’s website gives no route numbers.
  • Parking numbers and charges in the foreshore car parks.

We will update this guide if the organisers or Adelaide Metro publish these details. Check the fair’s website again on the morning of Sunday 29 November before you leave, because road closures and event details can change.
