The 94th National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant starts at 9:30am on Saturday 14 November 2026, and roads along the route close from 5am. Most closures lift at 1pm, a handful stay shut until 2pm, and Reconciliation Plaza is closed for most of the week. The Pageant’s website has now published its closures, route, parking and accessibility pages, and this guide is built from them. Adelaide is on daylight saving in November (UTC+10:30), and every time below is local Adelaide time.

Everything here comes from the official Christmas Pageant website, read on 26 October 2026. Pageant Day is one of the biggest days in South Australia, and the Pageant’s own tip is to use public transport to avoid the traffic.

What time does the Pageant start, and where can I watch it on TV?

The Pageant’s When and Where page says the golden whistle blows at 9:30am on Saturday 14 November to start the 2026 Pageant. A replay is scheduled on Nine and 9Now for 7:30pm to 9:30pm the same day, and a full replay is set for Christmas Day (25 December) from 6am to 8am.

Where does the Pageant route go?

The Route page says the 2026 Pageant begins at South Terrace and travels north along King William Street, on the west side of Victoria Square (Tarntanyangga). It passes through Reconciliation Plaza along Wakefield Street, turns left into Pulteney Street, then left along North Terrace and south along King William Street. It finishes at Beehive Corner, on the corner of Rundle Mall.

From Beehive Corner, Father Christmas delivers his Christmas message to the people of South Australia, and then goes into National Pharmacies in Gawler Place. The website also offers a route map to download; it shows the nearest toilets and the National Pharmacies merchandise stalls. Watching happens behind the Blue Honour Line.

Where can I park, and what does it cost?

The Pageant’s Parking page says UPark, the City of Adelaide’s car parks, has $8 Pageant parking at five locations. Standard rates apply at six others. The Pageant says UPark is owned and operated by the City of Adelaide.

Rate UPark car park and opening time on Pageant Day
$8 UPark Grote (open from 6am)
$8 UPark Andrew (open 24 hours)
$8 UPark Pirie Flinders (open from 6am)
$8 UPark Light (open 24 hours)

The Pageant points to upark.com.au/pageant to plan a journey and find the most convenient car park, and reminds drivers to learn the road closures first. It also lists three Wilson Parking car parks as other options: 21 Bent Street, Flinders Link at 80 Flinders Street, and 30 Hindley Street. For the usual UPark rates on any other day, see our guide to City of Adelaide car parks.

Three of the $8 car parks, Grote, Pirie Flinders and Wyatt, open at 6am, while the road closures start at 5am. Check the closure table above against your route into the city.

Is public transport free on Pageant Day?

We could not find an announcement for 2026 on the Pageant pages we read, so we are not saying either way. The Pageant’s Handy Tips page says to use public transport to avoid the traffic. Check the Adelaide Metro website for any Pageant Day notice before you travel; the Adelaide Metro events page did not open for us when we checked. Our Adelaide Metro fares guide covers the normal fares and how to pay.

What should I bring, and what should I leave at home?

The Handy Tips page asks you to leave ladders, pop-up shelters and umbrellas at home. If you set up a chair, leave room for children to sit in front of you. The rest of the list is short:

  • Wait until the roads are closed to set up blankets and rugs behind the Blue Honour Line, and stay behind the line.
  • Arrive early to get the best spot, and pack sun protection even if it is cloudy.
  • Do not leave bags or personal items unattended; report anything suspicious to Police, Pageant officials or security.
  • The Pageant is smoke-free and vape-free; do not smoke or vape around children.
  • Arrange a meeting spot and time in case your group is separated.

What if a child gets lost?

The Pageant asks you to take a photo of your child or vulnerable person on your phone so SA Police can see what they look like and what they are wearing. Police officers along the route carry lost child and vulnerable people wristbands that you can write your phone number on, and the wristbands are also at National Pharmacies merchandise stands and cross-over points. Bring a permanent marker. If someone is not found promptly, go to the nearest police officer or to the police stations at 55 Hindley Street or 176 Grenfell Street to file a missing person report.

Where are the accessible viewing areas?

The Accessibility page lists these areas. None of the first three needs a ticket or reservation:

Area Where Access
Wheelchair Access Area, Victoria Square Northern side of Victoria Square, western corner, easy access from the west (for example Grote Street and Franklin Street) No ticket or reservation; carers and family welcome
Wheelchair Access Area, Wakefield Street Southern side of Wakefield Street, on the edge of Victoria Square No ticket or reservation; staff and security nearby
Hidden Disability Sunflower Site Northern side of Victoria Square, beside the Queen Victoria Monument No ticket or reservation; arrive before 9:00am is recommended; fenced, with Sunflower-trained staff
Rudolph’s Community Site Southern side of Wakefield Street Official pre-arranged pass for schools, kindergartens, community and disability groups; no pass needed for the mobility device area inside it

There are also three quiet spaces open to anyone without a reservation: the Quiet Room at St Francis Xavier Cathedral on Wakefield Street, a sensory reduced area inside the Metropolitan Fire Service building on Wakefield Street, and the Office for Autism’s sensory bus on the northern side of Victoria Square. All UPark car parks in the city have wheelchair car parks. Vision Australia Radio Adelaide will broadcast the Pageant with audio description, and Channel 9 will show the opening segment and the closing message from Father Christmas with Auslan interpreting, plus closed captions throughout.

Where can I get breakfast along the route?

The Route page lists businesses with special Pageant Day hours. A few early ones: Astonish Cafe on Gilles Street opens at 2am, Cafe 12 on Halifax Street opens at 1am, Sanshi Patisserie and Cafe on King William Street opens at 3am, and Cafe Ritz on Wakefield Street and Pulteney Street opens at 4am. Adelaide Central Market opens at 7am, and most Rundle Mall centres on the list open between 7am and 9am. Portable toilets will be along the route, and the route map shows the nearest ones.

What is new this year?

The Pageant’s homepage says two new major floats make their debut on 14 November: The Magic Hat and Bumper Christmas. Its float list describes Bumper Christmas as baby penguins driving bumper cars at the fun park. The Pageant says it drew 335,000 parade-goers in 2025 and that it is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest public parade.

What has not been confirmed?

As of 26 October 2026, we found no announcement of free public transport or extra services for Pageant Day on the Pageant’s pages. Check the Adelaide Metro site in the week before. We will update this guide if the closures or times change.
