Parking at Wollongong Hospital is free for the first 30 minutes, then $8.70 up to 1 hour, with a maximum daily fee of $25.80, as of October 2026. Secure Parking manages the car park for the hospital, and you pay at an automatic pay station or by credit card at the exit gate.
The hospital is at 49 Loftus Street, Wollongong. The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) publishes the fees and car park rules on its Wollongong Hospital parking page, which this guide follows. We read the page on Thursday 22 October 2026.
ISLHD describes Wollongong Hospital as the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital, with a bed base of more than 500, and the largest of the district’s eight hospitals. The campus includes the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, so the car park serves patients, carers, visitors and staff across inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
How much does it cost?
| Time parked | Charge |
|---|---|
| First 30 minutes | Free |
| Over 30 minutes to 1 hour | $8.70 |
| Over 1 hour to 2 hours | $12.80 |
| Over 2 hours to 3 hours | $17.30 |
| Over 3 hours to 4 hours | $20.10 |
| Over 4 hours to 5 hours | $23.20 |
| Over 5 hours | $25.80 |
| Maximum daily fee | $25.80 |

The charge steps up at each hour boundary, and a stay of more than 5 hours costs the daily maximum. Using the published figures, a visit of up to 1 hour costs $8.70, an appointment that keeps the car in the car park for up to 2 hours costs $12.80, and a stay of up to 4 hours costs $20.10. The page does not list a separate weekend or evening rate, so check the signs and the information at the car park entries.
How do I pay?
There are two automatic pay stations in the car park. One is on Level P1 north, near the overhead bridge and lifts. The other is on Level P1 south, in the new area. Credit card payment is also available at all the exit gates.
Secure Parking manages the car park on behalf of the hospital. Its staff are on Level P2 north, in the old car park section, and the information at the car park entries has more detail. The car park office is open from 5:30am to 8:30pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
ISLHD also points to the NSW Health hospital parking website, parking.health.nsw.gov.au, and to the NSW Health “hospital parking and directions” app, available from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Where do I enter, and how do I get to the hospital?
The car park has two entry and exit points off Dudley Street and two off New Dapto Road. You reach the hospital by the lifts in the car park and the overhead walkway, which joins the hospital’s main entrance on Loftus Street. The car park also has dedicated parking for motorbikes and bicycles.

The hospital’s facilities page says two privately operated coffee shops are at street level, one near the Loftus Street entrance and one at the Crown Street entrance. The hospital chapel is on Level 1 and is normally open from 8am to 8pm. The hospital’s main number is 02 4222 5000.
Who can get concession parking?
NSW Health offers concession rates for eligible patients and their carers who need regular or long-term hospitalisation or treatment, in all NSW public hospital car parks where fees apply, which includes Wollongong Hospital. ISLHD lists these eligible groups:
- Holders of a Mobility Parking Scheme permit
- Holders of a Pensioner Concession Card
- Holders of a Gold Veterans Affairs Card
- Holders of a Health Care Card
- Ongoing cancer treatment patients
- Patients and carers who attend for a course of treatment over a period of more than one week
- Patients and carers attending more often than twice weekly, including carers of long-term patients who visit frequently
- Cardiac rehabilitation education and exercise class attendees
- Daily dressing outpatients
- Health promotion education class attendees
The page adds that others may be eligible, and says to ask at the Enquiries Desk at the hospital’s main entrance on Loftus Street.
How do I claim the concession rate?
Eligible patients, carers and card holders must present their parking ticket, photo identification and their concession card, or a completed request for concessional rates form, at the Secure Parking car park office on P2 north before exiting the car park. ISLHD links an application form for temporary concessional and weekly parking tickets.
The concession information on the page lists these figures:
| Ticket | Charge |
|---|---|
| 0 to 3 hours | Free |
| Single visit ticket (one entry and one exit only) | $7.20 |
| 3-day ticket (frequent use: multiple entries and exits to the hospital campus) | $14.40 |
| 7-day ticket (frequent use: multiple entries and exits to the hospital campus) | $28.80 |
The page does not spell out which group each ticket is for, so ask at the car park office which one applies to your treatment.

Is there a free shuttle?
Yes. The free Gong Shuttle runs routes 55A and 55C on a loop from Wollongong Station to Wollongong University via Wollongong Hospital, Burelli Street and the Innovation Campus, according to Transport for NSW. The Wollongong CBD website says the loop also passes Wollongong Mall and Fairy Meadow.
| Day | Free Gong Shuttle hours |
|---|---|
| Weekdays | 7am to 6pm every 10 minutes, then 6pm to 10pm every 20 minutes |
| Saturdays | 9am to 5.20pm every 20 minutes (Transport for NSW); the operator, Premier Illawarra, lists 9:40am to 5:20pm |
| Sundays and public holidays | 9.40am to 5.20pm, up to 20 minutes apart |
Transport for NSW says the shuttle runs in both directions. The shuttle’s loop runs from Wollongong Station, which is on the South Coast Line.

What about street parking nearby?
City of Wollongong sets its own prices for Council car parks and on-street spaces in the city centre, and these are separate from the hospital car park. The Council says the most you will pay is $1.20 per hour, as little as 60 cents per hour, and on-street parking is free before 8.30am and after 4.30pm on weekdays, on weekends and on public holidays, with Saturday time limits between 8.30am and 12.30pm. The Council’s pages do not name the streets around the hospital, so check the signs for the time limit and fee that apply where you park. Our Wollongong CBD parking guide sets out the Council’s rates, car parks and payment methods.

The Council also says that people with a Mobility Parking Scheme card can park at no charge in Council and on-street metered or ticket parking areas. Accessible parking spaces have no time limit.
Who do I contact?
For parking questions at the hospital, speak to Secure Parking staff on Level P2 north or at the car park office during its opening hours, or ask at the Enquiries Desk at the Loftus Street main entrance. The hospital’s main number is 02 4222 5000. Fees and conditions can change, so follow the signs and the information at the car park entries.
