Brimbank City Council’s events website now lists six Christmas events for children and families in Sunshine and St Albans between Sunday 29 November and Friday 11 December 2026. Four are free and open to everyone: the Festive Fun Day in Sunshine, the Rolling into Sunshine skaters outside Sunshine Library, school choir carols at Sunshine Plaza, and St Albans Christmas Magic. Two need a booking: the Blue Light Disco at $10 a ticket and the Libraries Christmas Storytime Show. Melbourne is on daylight saving time in summer (AEDT), and all times below are local times.

This guide is built from the council’s event pages, checked on Thursday 29 October 2026 and again on Friday 6 November 2026, when the Sunshine Plaza carols listing appeared. Only the Festive Fun Day page is still thin; the council has not published its programme yet, and this guide says so rather than guessing.

What will the Festive Fun Day in Sunshine include?

The council describes the Festive Fun Day as a free community celebration for people of all ages and backgrounds, held on Sunday 29 November 2026 from 11am to 3pm in the Clarke Street car park next to VicRoads in Sunshine. The page promises a variety of activities, live entertainment and attractions, and a special appearance from Santa for children and families.

The page ends with “More details to come!”, so the list of rides, stalls, performers and stage times has not been published. Check the Festive Fun Day page in the weeks before the day; this guide will be updated if the programme appears.

Is there anything else on at the Festive Fun Day?

Yes. The council runs a separate Fruit Tree Net Swap during the Festive Fun Day, in the same car park, from 11am to 2:30pm. It is for Brimbank residents only. You hand in old fruit tree netting and receive one wildlife-safe net product in return, with a limit of one net product per household. Registrations are essential, through a Humanitix link on the council’s net swap page.

The council’s reason is a state rule introduced in 2021: household fruit tree netting with a mesh size bigger than 5mm by 5mm is illegal to use or sell in Victoria, because larger mesh is more likely to entangle and injure wildlife. Its “finger test” is simple: if you can poke a small finger through the mesh, the holes are too large and the netting should not be used.

Who is rolling into Sunshine in December?

The council’s Christmas skaters are back on the Civic Green outside Sunshine Library on Hampshire Road on Wednesday 2, Thursday 3 and Friday 4 December. The council lists 1pm to 4pm for Wednesday 2 December and gives no times for the other two days. They hand out Christmas chocolates to people passing by. The page gives the line-up for each day:

Day Who rolls in
Wednesday 2 December Two elves
Thursday 3 December Santa and an elf
Friday 4 December The Grinch and an elf

If your child wants to see Santa rather than the elves or the Grinch, Thursday 3 December is the day the page names. The page does not mention tickets or bookings.

Are there carols at Sunshine Plaza?

Yes. Local school choirs will sing Christmas carols at Sunshine Plaza, 324-328 Hampshire Road, on Friday 4 December 2026 from 10:30am to 11:30am. The listing says it is free and marks the start of the festive season, and that it gives students a chance to show their singing. The stage will be inside the centre near the Hampshire Road entrance, next to Sunshine Plaza News & Lotto. The listing also says there is free parking for up to three hours in the centre’s basement car park. The page does not name the schools or say whether the council or the centre is running the event; it gives the centre’s reception email for questions. It is listed on the same day as the skaters and the Blue Light Disco, but at a different hour.

What is on in St Albans?

St Albans has three listings, all on or near Princess Street and Alfrieda Street.

Brimbank Blue Light Disco, Friday 4 December

The Christmas Blue Light Disco runs from 6pm to 8pm at St Albans Community Centre, 33 Princess Street. It is brought to you by Victoria Police in partnership with the Brimbank Blue Light Disco Committee. The rules on the page are specific:

  • It is for primary school children from Grade 2 to Year 6.
  • Tickets cost $10 including the booking fee, sold only through Trybookings.
  • There is a free water station and cordial cups; food and snacks are for sale on the night.
  • There are prizes, including for best Christmas costume.
  • Roller-skate converting shoes and Heelys are not allowed.
  • A child who needs a carer on the night must have a parent contact the organisers before the disco.

Brimbank Libraries Christmas Storytime Show, Tuesday 8 December

Brimbank Libraries is running a brand new 2026 show at the Bowery Theatre, 33 Princess Street, St Albans, with storytellers live on stage. The council describes it as a Christmas storytime spectacular of stories, songs and seasonal surprises. There are two sessions on Tuesday 8 December, 10am to 11am and 1pm to 2pm, and each has its own booking link on the council website. The pages do not list a price or an age range, so check the booking page before you plan around either.

St Albans Christmas Magic, Friday 11 December

The last event on the list is free and family-friendly, and it is supported by Brimbank City Council. It runs from 11am to 2pm at the Library Reserve opposite 69 Alfrieda Street in St Albans Town Centre. The page lists three things:

  • Meet Santa in his chair and take a festive photo.
  • Say hello to Santa’s Christmas characters.
  • Live music, face painting and children’s craft.

If it rains, Santa and his friends move inside St Albans Library. That is the only event in this guide with a stated wet-weather plan.

Can I go to more than one?

Yes, because the dates do not overlap. Here is how the six listings fit together:

  • Sunday 29 November: the Festive Fun Day in Sunshine is the only event that day.
  • Wednesday 2 to Friday 4 December: the skaters are on the Civic Green (1pm to 4pm is listed for Wednesday 2 December only), on Friday 4 December the school choir carols run from 10:30am to 11:30am at Sunshine Plaza, and the Blue Light Disco starts at 6pm in St Albans.
  • Tuesday 8 December: the Storytime Show has a morning and an afternoon session, so you only need one.
  • Friday 11 December: St Albans Christmas Magic is the only event that day, and it ends at 2pm.

Santa is named at three of the five: the Festive Fun Day, the Thursday skating afternoon and St Albans Christmas Magic. A family that wants a Santa photo should look at the Christmas Magic page, which is the only one to mention a chair and a photo.

What about parking and public transport?

None of the council pages gives parking or public transport advice. The Festive Fun Day is held in a car park, the Clarke Street car park next to VicRoads, and the council has not said where visitors should park instead. For trains, trams and buses, use the Public Transport Victoria journey planner and enter the venue address from the table above. The council has not said whether any roads will be closed for the Festive Fun Day or the skaters.

What is still unconfirmed?

  • The Festive Fun Day programme, including whether there are rides, stalls or stage acts. The council’s page says “More details to come”.
  • The skaters’ times on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 December.
  • Parking and public transport arrangements for all events other than the carols, where the listing gives only basement parking.
  • The price and age range for the Storytime Show.
  • Wet-weather plans for every event other than St Albans Christmas Magic.
