Mindil Beach Sunset Market closes for the 2026 season after Thursday 29 October, which is the last Thursday in October. The market’s own website says it runs from the last Thursday in April to the last Thursday in October, from 4pm to 9pm on Thursdays and Sundays, so Thursday is the last night on that rule. This guide pulls together what the market’s website says about times, getting there, parking, food, rain and rules, as checked on 26 October 2026.

When is the last night of Mindil Beach Sunset Market in 2026?

The market’s FAQ page says it “always operates from the last Thursday in April until the last Thursday in October annually”. In 2026 the last Thursday in October is 29 October. The website lists the market as open from 4pm to 9pm on Thursdays and Sundays. It does not list any market after the last Thursday, so Sunday 25 October was the last Sunday on that rule. The market has not published a separate “final night” program on the pages we read.

Day Hours What the market says
Thursday 29 October 4pm to 9pm Main market, with all stalls trading
Sunday 4pm to 9pm A smaller market, often called the locals night

The season starts again on the last Thursday in April. By the same rule that is Thursday 29 April 2027, although the market has not published its 2027 dates on the pages we read. The website also says Mindil turns 40 in 2027.

What time should I arrive to see the sunset?

The FAQ says sunset during the dry season is “approximately 6.30pm” and varies across the six months. The Getting Here page says the sunset is between 6.30pm and 7pm and that it is best to arrive early. The market opens at 4pm, which leaves about two and a half hours before the light goes.

What is on stage and what can I eat?

The home page lists the same weekly timetable for Thursday and Sunday. Live music plays at the Sound Shell in three sets:

Set Time Where
1 5:00 to 5:45pm The Sound Shell
2 6:15 to 7:00pm The Sound Shell
3 7:45 to 8:30pm The Sound Shell

The same page also lists a 7:30pm item called “Mick’s Whips” at the Casino end of the market. The market does not say what it is, so check the information booth on the night.

The FAQ says Mindil has more than 150 stalls, with about 60 food stalls. Cuisines named on the site include Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, Indian, Greek, Italian and Mexican. The market says it has Halal and vegetarian stalls and that many dishes can be made gluten free. Other stalls sell handmade clothing, jewellery, homewares, Indigenous products and information. For particular dietary needs the market points you to the information booth.

How do I get to Mindil Beach?

The market’s Getting Here page puts it less than 3km from the Darwin city centre, between Mindil Beach Casino Resort and the Botanic Gardens. Its options:

Way in What the market says
Walk An easy walk via Smith Street or McMinn Street, at either end of the city
Bus 4 or 6 Run any day of the week
Special buses From Darwin Interchange (15) and Casuarina (route 19), on Thursday market days only
Taxi From the city centre, the FAQ says about $10 and the Getting Here page says about $20
Car Free parking, see below

The two market pages disagree on the taxi fare, so treat either figure as a rough guide and ask the driver or the taxi company before you set off. For bus times, the market sends you to the Darwin Bus website’s timetables.

Where can I park near Mindil Beach?

The market says it provides free parking within the market area. The FAQ adds parking at Darwin High School and along the surrounding streets. For the road in, the FAQ says “Gilruth Avenue” and the Getting Here page says “Gilruth Drive”, so follow the signs on the night. The Getting Here page warns that sunset falls between 6.30pm and 7pm and that it is best to arrive early. Disabled parking is available, according to the FAQ.

What if it rains?

The FAQ says Mindil will operate unless the Management Committee and Operational Team deem the site unsafe. Updates are posted on the market’s Facebook page. The market does not give a cut-off time for a weather call, so check the Facebook page before you leave.

What are the rules on dogs, alcohol and smoking?

  • Animals: not permitted in the market, except service dogs, because of City of Darwin regulations.
  • Alcohol: Mindil is a BYO (bring your own) venue. Alcohol is also served at the Sunset Lounge area, which you can book in advance.
  • Smoking and vaping: not allowed in the market. They are permitted in the main car park, on the edges of the market next to the toilet blocks and on the public beach.
  • Money: there are ATMs at each end of the market, in the Territory Space and Community Space areas. Most food and craft stalls take EFTPOS, and some stalls are cash only.

What does the Sunset Lounge cost?

The Sunset Lounge is a booked seating area with a table and chairs close to the beach and an on-site bar that takes cards. The market lists three packages:

Package Adult Child Concession Includes
Standard $20 Free $10 Table and chairs, bar access, ice-filled esky for BYO drinks ($10 corkage fee applies)
Premium $45 $25 $35 Standard, plus $20 Mindil Money to spend at any stall
Sunset $65 $25 $55 Premium, plus one standard drink per person

Prices are per person, as listed on the market’s website in October 2026. Children under 6 are free. The market warns that the dry season afternoons are still hot and sunny and that shade may be limited, so bring a hat and wear sunscreen. We did not find a way to check whether Sunset Lounge tables are still available for the final night, so contact the market on (08) 8981 3454.

Who do I ask for help on the night?

The information booth is in the arts and craft area. St John Ambulance is at the back of the craft space near the information booth, and for an urgent case the market says to ask one of its security staff. The lost and found register is at the information booth. In office hours, call the market on (08) 8981 3454 or the City of Darwin on (08) 8930 0300. The disabled toilets are in each toilet block, in the Territory and Community spaces. The market says there is no direct wheelchair access to the beach.
