Parking at Bendigo Hospital is free for the first half an hour, then $2.50 an hour up to a maximum of $10 a day, according to Bendigo Health. There are three main car parks, and the drop-off zones at the main entrance and the Emergency Department have their own short time limits.

The hospital is at 100 Barnard Street, Bendigo, and the main entrance is reached via Mercy Street. Everything below comes from Bendigo Health’s own pages, read on 7 November 2026. The hospital’s main number is 03 5454 6000.

How much does it cost to park at Bendigo Hospital?

Bendigo Health says car parking is free for the first half an hour, then $2.50 per hour, capped at a $10 maximum per day. The same rate applies to the car park near the lawned area, which is reached from Mercy Street. The hospital says a limited number of onsite visitor car parks are available and that a fee applies. Limited free patient parking is available on both campuses. Vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk.

The Parking page does not say how you pay, or what hours the car parks are open.

Is there free parking in the streets around the hospital?

Yes, but it is time restricted. The hospital lists Arnold Street, Stewart Street, Barnard Street, Lucan Street, Bayne Street, Drought Street and Hope Street. It also warns that failing to observe parking restrictions on its grounds and in the surrounding streets may bring a parking infringement notice from the City of Greater Bendigo. The time limits are on the street signs, not on the hospital’s page.

Where can I be dropped off?

Bendigo Health lists two short-term drop-off and pick-up areas: the main entrance in Mercy Street, and the Emergency Department entrance in Drought Street. The hospital’s disability page puts the time limits in these zones at 5 to 15 minutes. For the Clinical Services Campus, there is a dedicated patient drop-off in Lucan Street. Taxis can take you to the main entrance drop-off or to the Emergency Department entrance in Drought Street; the hospital lists Taxis Associated on 131 008 and Silver Top Taxi Service.

Volunteer drivers who take patients to and from the hospital for a health service or a community group can apply for a parking sticker. It stops an infringement in the 10-minute drop-off bay outside the hospital if the volunteer is delayed, and it is for patient transport only. The hospital also says volunteer drivers can use the basement and multi-storey car parks for pick-up and drop-off for less than 30 minutes at no charge. To ask about a sticker, email volunteers@bendigohealth.org.au.

Which buses go to Bendigo Hospital?

The hospital lists three bus routes from Bendigo Railway Station:

Route Name on the hospital’s page
50 Bendigo / Epsom Station, via Goynes Road
51 Bendigo / Eaglehawk, via Jackass Flat
52 Bendigo / Eaglehawk, via Arnold Street

For the John Bomford Centre it lists routes 70 (Bendigo / Strathdale to Condon Street) and 61 (Bendigo / La Trobe University), and for the Stewart Cowen Community Rehabilitation Centre it lists routes 51, 52, 53 and 70. Timetables are on the Public Transport Victoria website. V/Line trains from across Victoria arrive at Bendigo Railway Station. Bike racks are next to the Mercy Street main entrance and the Drought Street entrance.

What are the visiting hours?

From 2 April 2026, general visiting hours at Bendigo Hospital are 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 8pm, with no limit on how many people can visit at once. Next of kin and significant others can visit from 8am to 8pm. The page says there is a limit of two visitors per patient between 8am and 10am and “1 am-3 pm”. The page does not correct that second time, so the early-afternoon limit is not confirmed. Wards can set their own visiting times and restrictions, and the hospital tells you to search for the ward name on its website.

Visitors will be told if they need to wear a mask in certain areas, and anyone with cold, flu or COVID symptoms is encouraged, if possible, to delay visiting until they are well. Residential aged care has no limits on the number of visitors or the visiting hours, although visitors are checked for symptoms on arrival.

Where is the Emergency Department?

The Emergency Department is on the ground floor of Bendigo Hospital, and its entrance is on Drought Street. In an emergency, phone Triple Zero (000). The department says it uses a triage system, so the sickest and most seriously injured patients are seen first, not in order of arrival. It asks people to come for serious or potentially life-threatening problems such as chest pain or difficulty breathing, stroke symptoms, severe abdominal pain, major injuries or heavy bleeding. Bring your medication, or a list of it.

For less urgent problems the department points to a GP, telehealth or an urgent care centre. It lists the Bendigo Medicare Urgent Care Clinic on 03 5445 5690, the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (open 24 hours a day, seven days a week), and Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24. The mental health triage and Enhanced Crisis Assessment Team line is 1300 363 788, open 24 hours a day.

Is the hospital accessible, and where can I eat?

The main entrance off Mercy Street has a revolving door, and the hospital says you can use the automatic door to its right by pressing the green button. The Drought Street entrance has automatic sliding doors. Public lifts are at the main entrance, and a touchscreen directory is on the ground floor nearby. Volunteers in red shirts can help you find your way. Accessible toilets are listed on the ground floor and on levels 1 to 6. The Disability Liaison Officer can be reached on 03 5454 9141.
