The Norwood Christmas Pageant is on Saturday 21 November 2026 from 10am to 11am, running east along The Parade from Woods Street to Queen Street. It is free to watch, the council expects crowds from early in the morning, and temporary road closures apply on the day. The council advises using alternative transport because parking on The Parade can be restrictive.
This guide follows the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters pageant page, whose site showed a last-modified date of 28 October 2026 when we read it on 29 October. Where the page leaves a detail out, we say so.
What time is the Norwood Christmas Pageant, and what is in it?
The council lists the pageant for 10am to 11am on Saturday 21 November 2026 on The Parade, Norwood. It describes colourful floats, music and entertainment, including live bands, clowns, dancers and fairies. It calls the pageant the council’s most iconic community event.
| Detail | What the council says |
|---|---|
| Date | Saturday 21 November 2026 |
| Time | 10:00am to 11:00am |
| Start of route | Woods Street, Norwood |
| Direction | East along The Parade |
| End of route | Queen Street |
| Where floats line up | The Parade, between Fullarton Road and Woods Street |
The council also says children are encouraged to bring chalk and decorate the street with Christmas drawings. Its tips for the day include staying behind the blue line marked on The Parade and writing your mobile number on your child’s wrist or arm before you leave home, with a photo of what they are wearing in case they get lost.

Which road closures should I expect on The Parade?
The council confirms that temporary road closures will be in place on the day. It does not list the streets or the times on its page. To reduce the number of closures and the disruption to major roads and side streets, floats line up on The Parade between Fullarton Road and Woods Street rather than on side streets.
One more detail from the page: George Street, Norwood, north of The Parade, is undergoing an upgrade with changes to traffic access, and traffic cannot currently access George Street from the south or from The Parade. That is a separate works notice from the pageant closures.
The page links to a pageant route map, but the file it points to is named for 2019. We did not use it, because it may not match this year’s route. Check the council page again close to the date for a current map.

How do buses run during the pageant?
The council says eastbound services and heavy vehicles will be diverted via Fullarton Road, Magill Road and Portrush Road and then rejoin The Parade as normal. Westbound services are diverted in the reverse. It does not name any bus routes, so use the Adelaide Metro journey planner for your own trip and look at the Saturday 21 November timetable and any service notice nearer the date.
| Direction | Diversion on pageant day |
|---|---|
| Eastbound buses and heavy vehicles | Fullarton Road, then Magill Road, then Portrush Road, then back onto The Parade |
| Westbound buses | The reverse of the eastbound diversion |

Where can I park for the Norwood Christmas Pageant?
The council says there are plenty of places to park but you need to arrive early, allow time to find a space and also time to leave, and use alternatives such as the bus, a scooter, walking or cycling. Its tips repeat that parking on The Parade can be restrictive and suggest staying for lunch to avoid the rush out, because there are many eateries on The Parade. It adds that bookings may be best if you want a specific place.
The Parade Norwood’s own parking page says there is a range of free and time-limited parking, with on-street spaces, sections of side streets and customer car parks, as well as scooter and motorcycle parking, accessible parking and bicycle parking. It gives no specific pageant-day arrangements, and we have not listed car parks or time limits because the pages we read do not give them.

Can I borrow a costume and join the pageant?
The council runs a costume loan for people taking part. About 200 costumes are available, from clowns and fairies to princesses and pirates, in sizes for all ages. They are collected from and returned to the Norwood RSL Hall, 4 Woods Street, Norwood, where volunteers help with selection.
| Costumes | When |
|---|---|
| Collection | Wednesday 11 November, 3:30pm to 6pm |
| Collection | Saturday 14 November, 12pm to 3pm |
| Returns | Pageant day, 12pm to 1:30pm |
| Returns | Tuesday 24 November, 3:30pm to 6pm |
Applications to be in the pageant line-up closed at 5pm on Friday 2 October 2026, and the council said it would confirm participation by email by Friday 16 October. Entrants must hold public risk or liability insurance of at least $20,000,000 per claim. If you were a community group, school or business planning to take part, check your email and the council’s entry criteria and conditions.

What if it rains, and who do I contact?
The council’s tips say that if it looks like rain, bring umbrellas, hooded jackets and gumboots, and that puddles can be part of the fun. The page does not say whether the pageant would be changed or cancelled in severe weather, so check the council’s channels on the morning. Also bring sun protection: the council reminds people to “Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide”.
For questions, contact the council’s Events Unit on 8366 4555 or at events@npsp.sa.gov.au.
For local businesses on The Parade
The council asks businesses to make sure suppliers, customers and employees know about the temporary road closures and the times they apply. It also says shops will be seen by many people on the day and should be ready to invite them in or encourage them to come back.
What has not been confirmed?
- The streets and times of the temporary road closures on 21 November.
- A 2026 route map. The map linked from the page is a 2019 file.
- Which Adelaide Metro routes are diverted, and the timing of the diversions.
- Pageant-day parking arrangements and any time limits.
- Wet-weather arrangements.
We will update this guide if the council adds the closure details or a current map. Check the council page again on the morning of Saturday 21 November, because event details can change.
