Parking at PARKnGO Lightning Lane in Maroochydore is free for the first hour, seven days a week including public holidays, and after that costs between $4.50 and a $16 daily maximum. The eight-storey car park is at 4 Lightning Lane, in the Maroochydore City Centre, holds almost 300 cars and is open 24 hours a day. Sunshine Coast Council runs it, and every figure below comes from the council’s PARKnGO pages, checked on Saturday 7 November 2026. Times are Queensland time, which has no daylight saving.

How much does it cost to park at Lightning Lane?

The first hour is free. From 1 July 2026 the council’s rate table applies to anyone who stays longer, and daily charges are based on a 24-hour period from the time of entry.

Time in the car park Charge
0 to 1 hour Free
1 to 2 hours $4.50
2 to 3 hours $7.50
3 to 4 hours $11
4 to 5 hours $14
5 hours or more $16 (maximum daily charge)

The council’s FAQ puts it this way: “Charges start at $4.50 and are capped at $16 for each 24-hour period”, calculated from the time you enter the car park to the time you leave. Charges apply to all vehicles, and the council says no discounts are offered to motorcycles at this time. It also says local workers and residents get no discounted rate beyond the free first hour.

How do I pay, and when does the barrier open?

Cameras at the car park entrance use automated number plate recognition to work out when a vehicle comes in, or can issue a ticket to drivers. On the way out you pay an exit fee to open the gate. The council lists two ways to pay:

  • Enter your number plate and pay at one of the pay stations, which are on each floor near the lifts.
  • Pay at the exit barriers with a credit or debit card.

After you pay, you need to leave the car park within 15 minutes. If a pay station is not working, an intercom on the payment machines at the exit gates connects you to a parking operator representative. The operator named on the council’s pages is Point Parking.

Where is it, and how do I get in?

The address is 4 Lightning Lane, Maroochydore QLD 4558. The council says the eight-storey car park has one entry from Lightning Lane and exits onto Market Lane. An electronic display sign at the Lightning Lane entrance shows how many parking spaces are available.

Why does the council charge for parking here?

The council’s FAQ says parking demand in the Maroochydore City Centre needs to be managed to keep spaces turning over, and that the fees also repay the cost of the car park, which the council funded. It adds that if fees were not applied, every Sunshine Coast ratepayer would have to pay about $18 a year, every year, for the next 20 years. The money raised through paid parking services the loan used to pay for the construction of the facility, as well as the operation and maintenance of the site and its systems.

Can I buy a monthly or yearly pass?

Yes. The council’s pass page lists three passes, all billed in advance:

Pass Price What it covers
Monthly (Lightning Lane) $440 a month 24-hour undercover parking, 7-day access, unlimited entries and exits per day
Weekday monthly $290 a month Unlimited access Monday to Friday, at all PARKnGO car parks
Yearly (2026-27) $2,600 Valid 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, unlimited access Monday to Friday; prorated if bought after 1 July

The council says parking spaces are not reserved and availability is not guaranteed with any pass. To apply, the FAQ says to visit the Point Parking website, select Lightning Lane and leave a message confirming which type of pass you want. One line in the same FAQ, under how the parking system works, says a monthly pass “will be considered at a future date”; the pass page and the FAQ’s own pass answer both list prices, and the council has not said which wording applies.

Is there parking for people with a disability?

There are six accessible spaces. Drivers with a Disability Parking Permit can park for free all day. The council describes the process this way:

  • On exit, press the intercom button to tell the parking operator representative you have a Disability Parking Permit.
  • Give your number plate details and your authorised disability parking permit number.
  • After the exit cameras verify them, the vehicle is let out without payment.

The council adds that number plate information is recorded, and that vehicles may be ruled ineligible for the free parking if misuse occurs, such as when the vehicle and driver turn out not to hold a valid permit.

Are there EV chargers, bicycle racks and security?

Four electric vehicle charging stations are on Level 1, easy to reach from the Lightning Lane entrance, and they run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are AC units that suit any electric vehicle with a Type 2 plug. The stations are untethered, so you must bring your own charging cable. Once charging is complete, vehicles must be moved to another parking space. Rooftop solar panels supply the green energy for the chargers.

To report a charger that is not working, the council’s EV page says to call its customer contact on (07) 5475 7272. The FAQ gives (07) 5475 7273 and an email address, parkngo@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.

Bicycle parking is free, on the ground floor, and bicycles must not be secured to buildings, trees or outdoor furniture. On security, the council says patrols are active during night-time hours and throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays, and parking facility officers are on site on weekdays. Distress buttons are on each floor near the lifts, in the toilets of the end-of-trip facilities and in the bike storage area. To report a nuisance, damage to your car or vandalism, press the intercom button on any payment machine or a duress button to reach Point Parking, call the council on (07) 5475 7272, or contact the Queensland Police Service.

Where else can I park in Maroochydore if I don’t want to pay?

The council says it provides some time-limited, free on-street and off-street parking throughout Maroochydore, and it publishes downloadable A4 PDF parking maps for Caloundra, Nambour, Maleny, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Birtinya on its parking area maps page. Our guide to Sunshine Coast parking rules covers the signs and fines on those streets.

For comparison, the council’s other PARKnGO car park is Mooloolaba Central, which gives four free hours and a $20 daily maximum; our Mooloolaba Central guide has its rates and passes.
