On Sunday 15 November 2026, everyone in the Elders Point to Pinnacle must pass the junction of Davey Street and the Southern Outlet by 8:40am, be past the turn onto Pillinger Drive by 9:40am, and finish by 11:40am, according to the 2026 Event Booklet. Walkers start at 7:00am and runners at 8:00am, both from Wrest Point.

This guide covers the times that decide whether you get to finish, the walk-and-run rule, where the drink stations and toilets are, how gear bags travel, and the entry rules from the organisers’ website. A second guide covers buses, spectators and parking. Everything here comes from the Point to Pinnacle website and the 2026 Event Booklet, both read on Monday 26 October 2026.

What time do I start, and when must I finish?

The booklet gives each event a finish time and the time allowed:

Event Finish by Time allowed
Elders Point to Pinnacle (21.1km) 11:40am Run: 3 hours 40 minutes. Walk: 4 hours 40 minutes.
Brooks Point to Pub (10km) 10:00am Run: 2 hours. Walk: 3 hours.

Walkers for both events start at 7:00am. Runners for both events start at 8:00am. The booklet’s race day timetable gives these steps:

Which checkpoints do I have to beat?

The booklet lists the points on the course that everyone must pass by a set time:

By Where
8:40am Past the junction of Davey Street and the Southern Outlet
9:40am Past the turn onto Pillinger Drive off Huon Road
10:00am Point to Pub: finished
11:40am Point to Pinnacle: finished

The booklet says these times are set by Tasmania Police and will be strictly enforced so that roads can be reopened at the designated times. Anyone who does not meet a time will be asked to follow normal road rules by using the footpath to the next timing point. Anyone who has not finished the Pinnacle course by 11:40am will be told by Tasmania Police to board the final bus leaving the Pinnacle at 11:40am as it comes down the mountain, which lets Pillinger Drive reopen to regular traffic.

Can I walk in the run, or run in the walk?

You can walk in the run: runners may run, jog or walk at any point as long as they meet every cut-off on the course. You cannot run in the walk. The booklet says Tasmania Police strictly enforce a “walk, don’t run” policy in the recreational walk, because it is a safety issue if police cannot keep contact with the genuine walkers. The website adds that walkers in the Point to Pub start at 7:00am with the Pinnacle walkers.

What if I need to withdraw?

Go to the nearest drink station, SES post or St John unit and wait for transport. The booklet also says personal support vehicles are not allowed on the course while road closures are in effect, and that the course is under the control of Tasmania Police and Altus Traffic Management along with event officials.

Where are the drink stations and toilets?

The booklet lists Hartz Water at the start and at 4km (Skyline Servo), 7.7km (Strickland Avenue intersection) and 11.1km (Radford Track). At the Springs in Wellington Park, 13.9km, there is Hartz Water, Gatorade and GU. The Chalet at 17.3km and Big Bend at 18.8km have Hartz Water and Gatorade. Point to Pub competitors use the Wrest Point, Skyline and Strickland stations, and bottled water is available at their finish line.

Toilets are at Wrest Point, on Huon Road at 8.3km, at the Springs at 13.9km and at the Pinnacle at 21.1km. The Fern Tree Tavern, at 10km, has toilets for the Point to Pub only.

How do my warm clothes get to the finish?

There are six clearly marked competitor gear buses at the start area at Wrest Point from 6:15am. The organisers take no responsibility for personal effects, but will transport gear to the Pinnacle or the Fern Tree Tavern:

  • Point to Pinnacle female walkers, male walkers and Point to Pub walkers: gear buses leave Wrest Point at 6:45am.
  • Point to Pinnacle female runners, male runners and Point to Pub runners: gear buses leave Wrest Point at 7:45am.

Your bag is collected at the finish. The booklet’s advice is to pack dry or warm clothes, because the weather at Wrest Point can be completely different from the weather near the Pinnacle. It suggests lightweight clothing that zips, wind and waterproof layers, detachable arms and legs, a beanie and gloves.

What happens if the weather stops the race reaching the Pinnacle?

The race director will make an announcement on the day. The booklet describes an alternate course, set up in 2017, that follows the first half of the normal course from the Wrest Point car park along Sandy Bay Road, left into Byron Street and left into Davey Street. It follows Davey Street as it becomes Huon Road, past the Fern Tree Tavern, up to Neika and down Huon Road, finishing at the Longley Pub. Buses take all finishers back to Wrest Point following the normal event schedule.

What are the entry rules?

  • Ages: walkers must have turned 12 by event day and runners must have turned 14. The Point to Pub has no age restriction, but anyone under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Cost and limits: the Point to Pinnacle is $120 to 31 October and $145 from 1 to 14 November, with an entry limit of 3,200. The Point to Pub is $75 and then $90 later, with a limit of 1,600. The website lists pram and under-18 prices for the Pub.
  • Refunds: August refunds of 90 per cent are over. From 1 September until 17 November no refunds are provided, though a Race Roster Refund Protection Program could be bought at entry.
  • Changes: moving between the Pinnacle and the Pub costs a $10 administration fee. Switching from run to walk or walk to run is free. Email info@pointtopinnacle.com.au for either change.
  • Poles: walking poles are allowed in both events.
  • Pace runners: Tasmanian Road Runners pacers are listed for two hours, 2 hours 15 minutes, 2 hours 30 minutes and three hours, plus a Foot Soldier who paces the 11:40am cut-off. There are no pace runners for the Point to Pub.

You can also collect it from Wrest Point from 6:00am on race day, in the foyer through the revolving door, but the organisers encourage everyone to collect it earlier to avoid queues. Make sure your number can be seen at all times, and cross the electronic timing mats at the start and finish so your time is recorded.
