Entry is free at Melbourne Cup Eve Racing at Sportsbet-Ballarat on Monday 2 November 2026, with gates opening at 12:30pm. The Ballarat Turf Club’s event page invites people to “take Monday off and extend your weekend” with a day at the races, and its race day FAQ says car parking is free and plentiful. This guide is built from those two pages, checked on Monday 2 November 2026. Ballarat is on daylight saving time (AEDT, UTC+11) on the day, so every time below is local time.
When does Melbourne Cup Eve Racing start at Ballarat?
The club lists the meeting for Monday 2 November 2026 with a time of 12:30 and “Gates Open 12:30pm!”. An earlier version of the page, checked on 28 October, showed 11:30, so the club moved the time. The FAQ says gates normally open 90 minutes before the first race, but the club has not published the first race time for this meeting. Its FAQ says race times are not finalised until close to the day and asks people to check a few days beforehand.
| Item | What the club says |
|---|---|
| Date | Monday 2 November 2026 |
| Gates | 12:30pm (the event page; the FAQ says gates normally open 90 minutes before the first race) |
| First race | Not published yet; the club says race times are set close to the day |
| Entry | Free |
| Bistro meals | Terrace Dining Room, 12:30pm to 3pm |
| Light refreshments | Downstairs bar, all day |
The event page also shows a “Raceday Form” button for the form guide. Its ticketing section currently reads “There are currently no tickets or packages available for this event”, which fits a free-entry meeting: there is nothing to buy to get in.

Where is the racecourse, and which gate do I use?
The club’s address is 240 Kennedys Road, Miners Rest VIC 3352. The club’s website describes it as just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne, with racing held all year on a turf track and a synthetic Polytrack. The event page includes an entry map for race days and adds a separate note: “For entry on non-racedays, please use the Midas Road entry point.” So on Monday 2 November, follow the race day entry shown on the club’s map and the signs on the day, not the Midas Road entry used when there is no racing.
If you have questions before you go, the club lists (03) 5334 6273 and info@ballaratturfclub.com.au.
Can I park at the Ballarat races, and does it cost anything?
The FAQ answers “Is there adequate car parking available?” with “There sure is”, and says car parking is free and plentiful. It asks drivers to follow the instructions and directions of the car park attendants on the day. A group bringing a mini bus is also catered for: the club says there is lots of space and, outside Cup Day, you can park a mini van anywhere in the designated parking area. The club says that for Cup Day it needs to send you a pass for a mini bus; the FAQ does not describe that as a Cup Eve requirement.
Is there public transport to the Ballarat racecourse?
This is the part to plan before you leave. The club’s FAQ says there is public transport only to Ballarat or Wendouree train stations, and that it runs bus services to the racecourse on Sportsbet Ballarat Cup day. It does not say that any bus runs to the course on Cup Eve, and the Cup Eve page lists none. If you do not have a car, the pages do not say how to get from either station to the course, so ask the club on (03) 5334 6273 before race day.

What can I bring to the races?
Most of the club’s rules come from its FAQ, which applies to race days in general. They read as follows.
| Item | Allowed? | What the FAQ says |
|---|---|---|
| Your own alcohol | No | Alcohol is on sale on course; you may bring non-alcoholic drinks in plastic or cans, no glass |
| Your own food | Yes | Picnics are encouraged; leave sharp knives and glass at home |
| Fold-up chairs and tables | Yes | Patrons are welcome to bring them |
| Marquees, shade structures, large outdoor umbrellas | No | Not allowed for safety and public liability reasons; the club sells marquee and umbrella packages on the day |
| Portable BBQs | No | Not allowed; the club provides BBQs in sheltered areas on certain days |
| Dogs | No | Leave your dog at home; there are special arrangements for assistance dogs |
| Balloons | No | They can spook the horses |
| Smoking | Designated areas only | Use the signed smoking areas |
The club adds that shade is limited, so in the warmer months it suggests buying an umbrella or marquee package on the day if you want a guaranteed spot out of the sun. There is a public grandstand.

What should I wear?
The club encourages “Country Casual”: whatever you feel comfortable in, from a shirt and shorts to a full outfit for Fashions on the Field or a hens or bucks day. The one stricter rule is for corporate hospitality, where the FAQ asks for neat casual: no thongs or ripped denim, with a collared shirt for men. If you are not in a hospitality area, the dress standard is relaxed.
What is there to eat, drink and pay with?
For Cup Eve the event page lists bistro meals in the Terrace Dining Room from 12:30pm to 3pm, and drinks and light refreshments in the downstairs bar throughout the day. The general FAQ adds that fast food is available around the course, upstairs dining is on offer, and stalls, markets or food trucks may appear on some days. It does not say which of these will be there on 2 November, so do not count on a particular stall.
On payment, the FAQ says there is an EFTPOS machine on course but warns of long lines and limited internet, and encourages guests to bring cash for race day purchases. On betting, bookmakers are available on course but there are no TAB sellers.

Is this the Ballarat Cup?
No. Melbourne Cup Eve Racing is a country meeting on the day before the Melbourne Cup. The Sportsbet Ballarat Cup is a separate metro meeting on Saturday 5 December 2026, and it is the day the FAQ names for the club’s bus services to the racecourse and for mini bus passes. The club’s calendar also lists Wednesday Racing on 11 November 2026. Details for the Cup will be covered in a separate guide as the club publishes them.
What if I change my mind or the weather turns?
The club’s pages do not set out a wet-weather or cancellation policy for Cup Eve, and the FAQ does not address it. Because entry is free, there is no ticket to worry about. If the forecast is bad, check the club’s website or call (03) 5334 6273 on the morning.
