The Sportsbet Ballarat Cup is on Saturday 5 December 2026 at Sportsbet-Ballarat, and the Ballarat Turf Club is selling General Admission from $25 per person as an early bird price. The day is headlined by the $500,000 Cup, and the club says it will run bus services to the racecourse that day. This guide is built from the club’s Cup page and its race day FAQ, checked on Thursday 29 October 2026. Ballarat is on daylight saving time (AEDT, UTC+11), so all times are local.

What time does Cup Day start, and when do the gates open?

The Cup page lists a start of 11am. The race day FAQ gives a general rule of gates at 11:30am, or 90 minutes before the first race, and tells people to check the race times a few days before because they are not final until close to the day. The two do not match, and the club has not said which applies to the Cup, so treat the gate time as unconfirmed.

How much does it cost to go to the Ballarat Cup?

The Cup page lists General Admission “from $25pp” and marks it as an early bird price, so the price on the day may be higher. Everything else on the page is a hospitality package. All prices below are “from” prices as listed on 29 October 2026, and several have group minimums.

The club’s page says the packages suit clients, Christmas celebrations or a day out with friends. Each package has its own Learn More page on the club’s site, which is where inclusions and booking conditions are set out.

How do I get to the Ballarat Cup?

The racecourse is at 240 Kennedys Road, Miners Rest VIC 3352. The club’s FAQ says there is public transport only to Ballarat or Wendouree train stations, and that on Cup day it runs bus services to the racecourse. It adds that bus times and pick-up points will be placed on the FAQ page closer to the day. As of 29 October 2026 they are not there, so there is nothing to plan around yet.

If you are driving, the FAQ says car parking is free and plentiful and asks drivers to follow the car park attendants. Groups with a mini bus need a pass on Cup Day, which the club says it will send you; ask the club on (03) 5334 6273 how to arrange it. The club’s Cup Eve page carries an entry map for race days and says to use the Midas Road entry on non-race days; it has not published a map for the Cup.

What can I bring to the Ballarat Cup?

These rules come from the club’s general race day FAQ, which is not written for the Cup alone. The club’s Cup page has no separate list, so check for changes before the day.

Item Allowed? What the FAQ says
Your own alcohol No Alcohol is on sale on course; non-alcoholic drinks are allowed in plastic or cans, no glass
Your own food Yes Picnics are encouraged; leave sharp knives and glass at home
Fold-up chairs and tables Yes Patrons are welcome to bring them
Marquees, shade structures, large umbrellas No Not allowed for safety and liability reasons; the club sells umbrella and marquee packages
Portable BBQs No Fire safety; the club provides BBQs in sheltered areas on certain days
Dogs No Assistance dogs have special arrangements
Balloons No They can spook the horses

What should I wear, and is there Fashions on the Field?

The Cup page names Fashions on the Field and has a Fashion tab, but it has no entry details yet, so there is no judging time, category or prize to report. The club’s FAQ says the dress standard is “Country Casual”: whatever you are comfortable in, from a shirt and shorts to a full outfit. For corporate hospitality it asks for neat casual, with no thongs or ripped denim, and a collared shirt for men. Check the club’s Fashion section for the entry details when it is filled in.

What about food, cash and betting?

The FAQ says fast food is available around the course and upstairs dining is on offer, with stalls, markets or food trucks on some days; you may also bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. There is an EFTPOS machine on course, but the club warns of long lines and limited internet and suggests cash. Bookmakers are on course; there are no TAB sellers.

Which Ballarat Cup ticket suits a small group?

The club’s own page makes the choice fairly simple. Several packages have group minimums: eight for the Trackside Lawn Umbrella Enclosure, six for Tiered Terrace Dining, ten for the Eureka Mound Stables and 50 for the Dowling Forest Club, so a small group may be limited to General Admission or the packages with no minimum listed. At eight to 14 people, the umbrella enclosure at $95pp is the cheapest package listed and includes General Admission. For indoor seating in the Grandstand, the Magic Millions Room starts at $245pp and the Terrace Dining Room at $275pp. For families, the club points to the Victoria Park Family Stables, a private sheltered space in a parkland setting from $1000.

Because the page says “from” for most items, confirm the full price and inclusions on each package’s Learn More page before you book. The Cup page also carries an Employment section for people who want to work on the day; it says to enquire with the club.

Is this the same as Cup Eve Racing?

No. Melbourne Cup Eve Racing on Monday 2 November 2026 is a separate free-entry country meeting at the same course; see our Cup Eve Racing guide. The Cup is the metropolitan meeting with a $500,000 headline race, ticketed entry and bus services.
