The City of Burnside’s Carols in the Park is on Friday 4 December 2026 at Kensington Oval, with free entry, live music from 4pm and the main stage program from 5pm until 9pm. The council says parking in the surrounding streets is limited and asks people to walk, ride a bike, take the bus or carpool. This is the first time the event has been held at the oval, which the council calls its new venue.
This guide follows the City of Burnside’s Carols in the Park page, which has separate sections for the event details, the new venue, the festive market, accessibility, the program, getting there and parking, safety and the event map. We read every section on 28 October 2026. Where the council has not yet published something, we say so rather than guess.
When does Carols in the Park start and finish?
The council gives a clear run of times for the night. Entry is free, so there is no ticket to book.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 4pm | Pre-show entertainment begins |
| 5pm | Official stage program begins |
| 9pm | Event concludes |
Stall holders at the festive market set up from 2pm, and the market runs from 4pm to 9pm, the same hours as the event. If you want to browse the stalls before the stage program starts, the pre-show window from 4pm to 5pm is the time to arrive.
Where is Kensington Oval, and why is it a new venue?
The address is 344 The Parade, Kensington Park, inside Kensington Park Reserve. The council describes the move to Kensington Oval as a chance for the event to grow and welcome more people.
It also gives the oval a long history. According to the council, the land was kept as a public recreation reserve through the efforts of local residents and was originally known as Shipster’s Paddock, and Kensington Oval officially opened in 1875. The council lists cricket, football, athletics, soccer and cycling among the sports played there, including South Australia’s first inclined cycle track in 1888 and a match against Manchester United in 1967. It says Sir Donald Bradman scored 303 against Port Adelaide at the oval in 1939 while playing for Kensington Districts Cricket Club. The oval also has a grandstand, and the council suggests you bring a picnic blanket and settle in on the grass.

What is on at the event?
The council’s event page lists a variety stage program of festive tunes and carols, and says to have your singing voice ready. The line-up is not published yet. The council says printed programs will be available at the City of Burnside Information Tent on the night, and a digital copy should be available about a month before the event, which points to early November.
The South Australian Tourism Commission’s listing for the event, which repeats the council’s text, adds details on what to expect:
- Local community and school choirs
- A visit from Father Christmas
- Children’s entertainment and interactive entertainment
- Professional performances
- A festive market with gifts for purchase, and food vans
- Free face painting
- Making your own sustainable Christmas decorations
- Christmas puddings courtesy of the Lions Club Burnside
- A community BBQ courtesy of the Rotary Club Burnside
- A pop-up bar
The council names Ray White Burnside as gold sponsor and Amplify This as production partner, with the Burnside Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Burnside and the Country Fire Service as community partners.
The council’s own page calls it “Burnside’s event of the year”.

Can I park near Kensington Oval?
Only in the surrounding streets, and the council says there is not much room. It states that limited parking is available there, asks you to allow extra time to find a space and to be mindful of local residents. It has not published any dedicated event car park. The event map, which would show where accessible parking is, is marked “work in progress”, and the accessibility section says the map will be available from October.
Council Rangers will be monitoring parking on the night. The council points to one rule from the Australian Road Rules as applied in South Australia: you must not stop or park on or across a driveway or another access point for vehicles entering or leaving private land. The only exception it mentions is briefly picking up or dropping off passengers, as long as the vehicle is not left unattended and the stop is completed within 2 minutes.
Residents who have a parking problem on the night are asked to call the council on (08) 8366 4200.
| Ways to get there | What the council says |
|---|---|
| Walk or ride a bike | Recommended if you live nearby |
| Public transport | Adelaide Metro bus routes stop on The Parade right outside the oval |
| Carpool | Encouraged, to reduce congestion |
| Drive | Limited street parking; Rangers monitoring; do not block driveways |
Can I get to Carols in the Park by bus?
The council says buses stop on The Parade outside Kensington Oval and tells people to check Adelaide Metro for routes and timetables. It does not name the routes. We have not listed route numbers because we did not confirm them against the Adelaide Metro journey planner, so use that planner for a trip starting at your address and ending at 344 The Parade, Kensington Park, and check the Friday evening timetable.

Is the event accessible?
The council’s accessibility section describes the following arrangements:
- An accessible mat beside the main stage, and accessible restrooms
- Designated seating areas for people with mobility needs. Contact the council in advance to reserve a spot close to the stage for people with low vision, or elsewhere for people who need more frequent breaks
- Accessible parking, with a pointer to the event site map
- A sensory-friendly zone, described as a designated quiet space
- Auslan interpreters if you tell the council that you need them
For assistance or any other need, email burnside@burnside.sa.gov.au well before the event or call (08) 8366 4200. The council says it will do its best to make sure you can take part.

What should I bring, and what about safety?
The council’s safety section lists a first aid station on site. Staff and security will give instructions in an emergency. For children, wrist bands are available at the Council information tents to fill in on arrival, and a lost child will be taken to the Lost Children Point at the Council information tent next to the stage.
The council advises bringing sunscreen, hats and refillable water bottles, and dressing for the weather, and says to keep personal belongings with you because the City of Burnside is not responsible for lost or stolen property. The council’s page also says “Fingers and toes are crossed the weather gods will be nice to us this year”, but it does not say what will happen in wet weather. See the section below.

Can I run a stall or food van?
The council is taking expressions of interest from stall holders for the festive market on Friday 4 December. It wants arts, crafts and giftware, festive decor and homewares, summer apparel, kids’ toys, interactive stalls, sweet festive treats and food vans, and it is looking for eco-conscious, gift-ready products. Set-up starts at 2pm and the market runs from 4pm to 9pm. The fee is $50 for market stall holders and $100 for food vans. Enquiries go to burnside@burnside.sa.gov.au or (08) 8366 4200.
What has not been confirmed?
- The stage line-up. The council says a digital program is due about a month before the event.
- The event site map, which the council’s page shows as “work in progress”.
- Wet-weather arrangements. The council’s page does not say whether the event goes ahead in rain or storms, so check the City of Burnside website and social media on the day.
- The Adelaide Metro routes that stop on The Parade at the oval, and their Friday evening times.
- Whether the council will add any road or parking restrictions around the oval for the night. None are listed.
We will update this guide if the council publishes the program, the map or more detail on parking. Check the council page again on the morning of Friday 4 December, because event details can change.
