The Cairns Taipans host the Perth Wildcats at the Cairns Convention Centre on Friday 20 November 2026, tip-off 6:30pm, and the club has confirmed that its players will wear the new Indigenous jersey that night. The club’s game-day guide says there is no parking at the venue, so plan to park in the CBD or take the bus, which costs $0.50 for a single trip. Cairns is in Queensland and stays on Brisbane time all year, so every time below is Australian Eastern Standard Time with no daylight saving.
This guide uses the Taipans’ jersey announcement of 28 October 2026, the club’s schedule announcement, its game-day guide, the Convention Centre car park page, the Cairns Regional Council parking pages and Translink’s Cairns fares page. For the general rules on a game night, including the car park, bag checks and the bus, see our guide to the 31 October game against Melbourne United; this page covers what is different about a Friday night and the Indigenous Round.

What is the Indigenous Round, and what will the Taipans wear?
The Taipans’ schedule announcement lists four themed league rounds for the 2026-27 NBL season: the Hungry Jack’s Rookie Round (29 October to 2 November), the Indigenous Round (19 to 22 November), the Pride Round (7 to 12 January) and one more round still to be confirmed. The 20 November game against Perth is the Taipans’ home game in the Indigenous Round.
On 28 October the club revealed the jersey it will wear for the game. It was designed by Susan Reys, whom the club describes as a Badtjala woman and a descendant of K’gari, who also has Guugu Yimithirr heritage through the Dharrpa Warra clan of Starcke in Cape York. The club says Reys is based in Far North Queensland and works as an Indigenous artist, educator and cultural facilitator.
| Part of the jersey design | What the club says it represents |
|---|---|
| Deep blues and purples | The mountains |
| Cool tones | The waterholes |
| Warm colours | The land |
| Flowing forms | Water and landscape, and the native plants and places that sustain people |
| Three message sticks at the centre | The lores that guide the club: care for Country, care for each other, and upholding the cultural practices that strengthen spirit and community |
The jersey is on sale now through the club’s online store, the Snakes Store, according to the announcement. The announcement does not give a price or say whether stock will be sold at the arena on the night, so check the store page for both.
Is there anything planned in the arena for the Indigenous Round?
Not that the club has published. The jersey announcement and the schedule announcement name the round and the jersey but do not describe a pre-game ceremony, performances or other activities. The club’s game-day guide, read on 26 October, lists its usual features (mascot, cheer squads, half-time entertainment) and does not mention the Indigenous Round. If the club publishes a programme, watch the Taipans news page for one; this guide will be updated if it appears.
The club does run a year-round community programme that sits behind the round. The Taipans Indigenous Program (TIP) was launched in 2013 and, the club says, has been the only Indigenous arm of the NBL for the past decade. Its page says the program takes healthy-living messages into Cape York and other remote communities, aims to lift participation among Indigenous youth and promotes education and sport. It lists Sea Swift as naming rights sponsor and Skytrans as platinum partner, and names former Taipans point guard Kerry Williams as the program’s head. The program can be contacted through the club on (07) 4041 3000.

What time are the doors on a Friday night?
The club’s game-day guide sets the timing from the tip-off. The concourse opens 1 hour 30 minutes before tip-off, the door to the court opens 45 minutes before, and the club recommends being in your seat half an hour before so you do not miss the pre-game entertainment. The club’s page does not list these times for this fixture separately, so the times below are calculated from its rule and the 6:30pm tip-off on the Taipans’ schedule.
| Event | Time on Friday 20 November |
|---|---|
| Concourse opens | 5:00pm |
| Court doors open | 5:45pm |
| Be in your seat (club’s recommendation) | 6:00pm |
| Tip-off | 6:30pm |
Where do I park on a Friday, and when does it become free?
The Taipans’ guide says: “There is no parking available at the Cairns Convention Centre.” It says parking is available throughout the CBD and is free after 6pm in most areas. The Convention Centre’s own car park page adds that its 219-space car park may be closed during Cairns Taipans basketball games, with no access, although disabled access remains available.
The Friday detail matters more than it does for a Saturday evening game. The Cairns Regional Council says time limits, and fees where they apply, run from 8:30am to 6pm on weekdays. Outside those hours, and on public holidays, it says parking is free and time limits do not apply. The concourse opens at 5pm, an hour before the limits end, so anyone who parks on a street with a time limit and walks in at 5pm is inside the paid and timed period for the first hour.
| When you park on Friday 20 November | What the council says |
|---|---|
| Before 6pm | Time limits apply (generally 1 to 3 hours in the CBD) and fees apply where charged; $2.40 per hour on-street |
| 6pm or later | Free, and time limits do not apply (main parking page); where no limit is posted, an 8-hour limit (on-street page) |
| Exceptions | Southern Esplanade and Grafton Street car parks follow their own rules; disability, loading, bus and taxi zones always apply |
| Paying | EasyPark app at council off-street car parks (not Lake Street or CPAC); ticketless pay-by-plate meters |
The two council pages differ on what happens after 6pm: the main page says time limits do not apply, while the on-street page says parking is restricted to 8 hours where no limit is posted. Both agree that the evening is outside the paid period, and both say to follow the signs. The council also says parking times and hours at other locations in Cairns vary.

How do I get there by bus, and what does it cost?
The council says Translink’s public bus service, which it calls Sunbus, runs through the city from the northern beaches to the southern suburbs via the Lake Street bus terminal, between Shields and Aplin Streets. Translink’s Cairns fares page names Kinetic Cairns as the local delivery partner and lists these paper ticket prices as of October 2026:
| Ticket | Fare | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Single | $0.50 | One-way, with a two-hour transfer time |
| Daily | $1.00 | Unlimited travel until the last service that day |
| Weekly | $5.00 | Unlimited travel for seven days from the issue date |
You can pay on board with a credit or debit card or with cash; Translink asks cash payers to have the correct fare or small change ready. For routes, times and service updates, the council points to the Translink Cairns website, the free MyTransLink app, or 13 12 30. None of the pages read for this guide lists extra buses after the game or Friday evening timetables, so check your route before you rely on a late bus home.

How do I buy a ticket, and what can I bring in?
The Taipans’ guide says tickets are sold online only and none are sold at the Cairns Convention Centre. Buy through tickets.taipans.com; the jersey announcement links to the same ticket site for the Indigenous Round game. The Box Office staff can help with ticket problems before tip-off. The Convention Centre’s conditions of entry say a person who buys from an unauthorised source, including a ticket scalper, or who presents an invalid ticket, can be refused entry, and that anyone under 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
| Item | What the rules say |
|---|---|
| Bags | Taipans: no larger than 30cm x 30cm. Convention Centre: may refuse bags larger than that in seated areas, and backpacks of any size |
| Water | One sealed 600ml PET bottle of water per person |
| Umbrellas | Large umbrellas, longer than 30cm when closed, are prohibited |
| Food and drink | External commercial food and drink are not permitted |
| Cameras and gear | Professional cameras, selfie sticks, monopods, tripods and drones may be refused |
| Cloakroom | None; the club says there is no cloaking service |
Food and drink outlets inside accept cards only, and merchandise is sold outside Doors 22 and 24, according to the club’s game-day guide.

What other Taipans home games are close to this one?
The Taipans’ schedule page, read on 26 October 2026, lists these home games at the Cairns Convention Centre around 20 November:
| Date | Opponent | Tip-off |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday 5 November | Illawarra Hawks | 6:30pm |
| Friday 13 November | Sydney Kings | 6:30pm |
| Friday 20 November | Perth Wildcats (Indigenous Round) | 6:30pm |
| Saturday 5 December | S.E. Melbourne Phoenix | 4:30pm |
| Wednesday 9 December | Adelaide 36ers | 5:30pm |
| Saturday 12 December | Brisbane Bullets | 4:30pm |
| Sunday 20 December | Perth Wildcats | 4:00pm |
The club also lists a New Year’s Eve game against the New Zealand Breakers on Thursday 31 December at the same venue.

Who do I contact if something changes?
The Taipans list (07) 4041 3000 and info@taipans.com, at 127 Anderson Street, Cairns. The Cairns Convention Centre’s number is (07) 4042 4200. For bus questions, the council points to Translink on 13 12 30. This guide will be rechecked in the days before the game and updated if the club or the venue publishes a change.
