Re-Fest is a free family day run by the City of Tea Tree Gully on Saturday 7 November 2026, from 10am to 3pm around the Tea Tree Gully Library at 571 Montague Road, Modbury. There are more than 20 market stalls, five free guest talks, a toy swap, a Repair Cafe and a scavenger hunt with a $50 Westfield voucher as the prize. Entry costs nothing, but the talks and workshops need a booking.

This guide follows the City of Tea Tree Gully Re-Fest page, the council’s Repair Cafe page and its library page, all read on Monday 26 October 2026. South Australia is on daylight saving (UTC+10:30) from the first weekend of October, so the times below are Adelaide times.

What is Re-Fest, and what does it cost?

The City describes Re-Fest as a free family event celebrating recycling, growing food, reusing items and sustainable living. It is held around the library precinct and mixes stalls, talks, hands-on workshops and children’s activities. The event page lists the cost as free.

Free does not mean walk-up for everything. The City asks you to book the guest talks, the Toy Swap, the Repair Cafe and the “Save money and energy” session through its Eventbrite links. The page lists booking links only for the talks, the Toy Swap, the Repair Cafe and the energy-advice session, and does not mention a booking for the rest. It describes the scrap bracelet, Nature craft and Melt and Make activities as drop-in.

Where is Re-Fest, and how do I get to Tea Tree Gully Library?

The address on the City’s library page is City of Tea Tree Gully Library, 571 Montague Road, Modbury 5092. The Re-Fest page says the event is held around the library precinct. The library’s own opening hours on a Saturday are 10am to 5pm, and the page lists wheelchair-friendly access, toilets, air conditioning and a Changing Places toilet outside the library entrance.

Neither the Re-Fest page nor the library page gives parking advice for the day, a shuttle, or a bus stop to aim for, so we cannot tell you which car park is closest or whether any spaces are set aside. If you plan to drive, allow extra time and look for signs when you arrive. If you plan to take the bus, use the Adelaide Metro journey planner with “571 Montague Road, Modbury” as the destination.

One public transport fact that is on Adelaide Metro’s own pages: Tea Tree Plaza has a Park ‘n’ Ride car park, reached from Smart Road via the O-Bahn access road, charged at $2 with a valid metroCARD, SA Seniors Card or Tap and Pay ticket and $10 without, as of late October 2026. That page does not link it to Re-Fest, and we have not checked a walking route from the interchange to the library, so treat it as a general option, not an event arrangement. Our Park ‘n’ Ride guide has the rates and payment steps, and our fares and Tap and Pay guide explains the tickets.

What time are the guest talks, and do I need a ticket?

Yes. Each talk is listed as free but needs a ticket, booked on Eventbrite through the City’s page. The sessions run back to back in half-hour slots:

Time Session Speaker What the City says it covers
10:30am to 11am Trash talk: what really happens to your waste? Shani Wood, Green Industries SA Textiles, food waste, batteries and soft plastics, and what happens to them
11am to 11:30am Magpies, the most remarkable bird Professor Chris Daniels Wildlife conservation and connecting people with nature in the city
11:30am to 12pm Talk dirt to me Annette Burmeister Soil, home composting, pH testing and improving soil quality
12pm to 12:30pm or 1pm to 1:30pm Cooking with love: 12pm session or 1pm session Mandy Hall, former MasterChef contestant A live cooking demonstration on making meals sustainably
12:30pm to 1pm The hidden choices shaping your home Jeremy Miller, Resilient East Practical options for comfort and costs at home, for renters and owners

The slots run back to back with no overlap, so you can book the whole sequence from 10:30am to 1pm if you want to. Cooking with love is the only session held twice: choose the 12pm session to sit between Talk dirt to me and The hidden choices shaping your home, or the 1pm session to follow it.

Who is selling at the markets, and what food is there?

The Tea Tree Gully Sustainability Markets run in partnership with the Tea Tree Gully Sustainability Group. The City lists more than 20 local stalls, and names these makers and sellers on the page:

  • Anywhere Gear, Eco Mountain and Eternal Blooms by Sarah
  • FB Succulents & Plants by Joyce and Fix Her Upper
  • Fox and Co. Soap, Handbags for a Purpose and Houghton Honey
  • Just Pottering, Mobius Farms and Perfectly Imperfect Mosaic Garden Art
  • Preloved Pet Collective, Rhino’s Rack and Stomski Woodworks

Food vendors named by the City are the Men’s Shed BBQ, MOD Pizzeria, Mr Softee, Staazi & Co Greek Vegan and Bake N Brew Cafe. The page does not say whether the vendors take cards or cash only. The City also lists live music from DJ Ruby Chew.

What is on for children?

The page names these children’s activities, all at the same site on the day:

Activity What it is
Bugs and Slugs Adelaide Interactive displays about insects, spiders, slugs and other invertebrates
Animals Anonymous Wildlife education, meeting native Australian animals
Climbing Tree A junk and loose-parts nature-play space
Scrap bracelet making A drop-in upcycling activity with local artist Kelly Morris that takes about 5 minutes
Thrift projects with Amber A hands-on recycled art activity
Nature craft Drop-in craft with Tea Tree Gully Sustainability Group volunteers using natural and recycled items
Toy swap Swap toys you no longer use for something new to you; booked on Eventbrite, run with the Tea Tree Gully Toy Library and Savers
Melt and Make A drop-in activity where you make your own comb from a common waste item

Kids also get activities and giveaways, and the City says there is a chance to win a $50 Westfield voucher. The scavenger hunt works like this: follow the clues around Re-Fest to find hidden letters, unscramble them to reveal a mystery word, then enter the word on the entry form. The prize is a $50 Westfield voucher and a recipe book. The council’s waste team also runs recycling games, colouring in and a design-your-own monster truck competition.

Can I get something repaired?

Yes, if you book. The Repair Cafe runs on Saturday 7 November from 10am to 3pm in the Community Learning Centre, which you enter via the library foyer. The council says it is free, that appointments are 20 minutes, and that bookings are essential. You can bring electronics, shoes, clothing, furniture, jewellery, dolls, sewing, mechanical items and other things that need general repairs. You have to buy any spare parts before your booking. The council asks you to read the Repair Cafe house rules first, and says the cafe is held on the first Saturday of the month, except January, December and the April long weekend.

The City also lists a free “Save money on energy bills” session about using energy efficiently at home, booked through its own Eventbrite page. We could not open that booking page when checking, so use the Re-Fest page link for details and times.

What else can I do at the stands?

The City lists community partners and council teams. Among them:

  • The Australian Electric Vehicle Association and Formula Modbury, which will have two electric vehicles on display that you can view and sit in.
  • Green Adelaide, Green Industries South Australia (with the “Which Bin” experts), NAWMA and Solo, whose Touch a Truck stand lets children lift a bin with a truck.
  • Jeffries, who explain how food waste is collected and turned into fertiliser and will have a vintage truck.
  • Resilient East, with community energy kits and induction stovetops, and the council’s water and environment team.
  • The Great Unwaste, Savers Modbury and the Wynn Vale Community Garden, which sells plants grown by local gardeners.
  • Compost Revolution, showing the Farm Worm Farm, Dirt Vader Compost Bin and Maze Bokashi Bin.
  • Habitat Heroes volunteers and Friends of Dry Creek, who talk about wildlife habitat and the Superb Fairy Wren Habitat project.
  • A Seed Library stand where you can pick up a free pack of seeds.

Two items are worth planning for. You can bring domestic single-use or rechargeable batteries to dispose of while you visit. And City of Tea Tree Gully residents can ask about the home compost rebate and the cloth nappy and reusable sanitary products rebate, request a free mini muncher kitchen caddy and collect free compostable bags. Those offers are for residents of the City of Tea Tree Gully only.

Local high school students are also showing food-waste projects under “Shape your city”. You can vote for the Community Choice Award, which comes with $250 for the winning team to put its project into action.

What if I miss the booking, or the weather turns?

The Re-Fest page does not say what happens in wet or hot weather, and it does not say whether the talks are indoors or outdoors. Check the City’s Re-Fest page and its Facebook page, which the council points to for updates, on the morning of 7 November. If a talk is full on Eventbrite, note that the event page shows no booking link for the stalls, the food or the scavenger hunt.

Enquiries about the day go to the City’s major events team through the contact link at the bottom of the Re-Fest page.
